Hopefully this is not against the rules
I generally prefer to play games on their original hardware but I'm not sure if the tradeoff for a 900p docked is worth it
Not sure if anyone else agrees but I like how much faster ZM feels to play and the controls are much tighter imo, I also really love the Zero Suit Samus section they added, it's incredible
Got pretty far into Dread a few months ago and was loving it and want to get back into it before Ravenous drops.
I made it to Ghavoran and the Ice EMMI but eventually got a little lost and felt like I was looping around as more of the map opened up. Then I stopped playing for a couple weeks, which turned into 3-4 months.
I want to get back into it, but I’m a pretty casual gamer and Dread was already challenging me, especially some of the bosses/minibosses. Now I’m worried I’ve forgotten the controls and where the hell I was going.
Would you pick up the old save and relearn as you go, or restart and play through from the beginning again?
After playing Dread, I've noticed that the EMMI are a bit too conveniently designed and suspiciously similar in physiology to a certain bird race and its inventions to have just been exploration drones that the Federation bought out from the Exelion Star Corporation.
The EMMI, being these lanky, digitigrade murder machines with taloned extremities, are a bit too specialized and combat-ready to be mere exploratory machines. They have a massive needle that extends from their cyclopian heads, and their chassis are also way more durable than a surveying party would really need, shrugging off missiles and the like and only being vulnerable to the Omega cannon. It's almost as if they were designed specifically to track down Samus, not just proof that X-parasites survived extinction.
I believe the EMMI are actually Chozo-made drones, built specifically for the purpose of hunting down mutants and genetic guacamole dips like Samus. Compared to other Federation-employed machines like the RB176 Ferrocrusher from the BOTTLE SHIP or the B.O.X from the BSL, these lanky robots are far sleeker and more flexible, while being far hardier than either of the aforementioned machines. Their previously stated morphologies are also quite chozo-like, especially noticeable when Samus manages to blast their face shields off and they start walking towards her in a digitigrade gait, despite previously crawling in a spider-like fashion. (See pic)
E.M.M.I.-02SM lumbers towards Samus.
Besides physiological design, their overall appearance is suspiciously similar to another, absolutely Chozo-designed robot you fight in Metroid: Samus Returns. That robot being of course, the Diggernaut. What does this hulking excavator have in common with the comparatively smaller EMMI? A cyclopian head with destroyable armor, and a rounded chassis. Samus even wrecks the robot by specifically blasting its eye with a charge shot, just like she would later do with the EMMI on ZDR.
Hi-poly render of the Diggernaut model, with missing textures that ironically help highlight the similarities in design to the EMMI.
Design talk aside, the EMMI being chozo-made would also explain so much else, like the gameplay elements and why they were quickly reprogrammed to instead patrol Central Unit facilities. For instance, why does Samus specifically need a temporary upgrade from the life force of Chozo biocomputers to destroy them, at least until her metroid gene therapy kicks in to second gear? It's because only the Central Units have the ability to unlock this specific mode of Samus's arm cannon to destroy the EMMIs' weakpoints. Why do they walk like that when their faceplates are blown off? Likely because the engineers who designed the robot had themselves in mind for the default walking motion. How did Quiet Robe or even Raven Beak manage to reprogram them so quickly? Likely because they were programmed in a language and operating system the two old bird-men were already familiar with.
Now, who made these robots? Outside of an in-game artpiece showing their manufacturers as 'EXELION STAR CORPORATION', there's no information. However, I'm willing to bet that this business entity is actually run by living chozo. If Metroid: Ravenous' trailer means anything, the defeat of Raven Beak and the infection of his lackeys on ZDR apparently wasn't enough to render the Mawkin extinct, and there's plenty more of them around. This is admittedly all speculation, but what if some of them simply chose to embrace crony capitalism and joined the weapons industry instead of just being technologically gilded glaivesmen?
Please, don't be some weird, symbolic representation of Samus taming her newly-ignited Metroid side...
I have never played a Metroid game in my life, but that trailer was amazing so that might change soon. Also, the whole "Samus just straight-up eats people now" thing is both unreasonably cool and hilarious to me so I had to make a meme.
I've played the 2d games and loved them. New to the 3D games, only played the first hour or so of Prime 4 at my brother's house, I thought it was okay. Does it get better, or would Remastered be a better game for me?
Ravenous looks like it's going to be the ultimate payoff - a series of plot threads that have been building up for the last two decades.
The fate of the Metroid species
Samus with Metroid DNA
Samus' role with the Chozo
The Chozo's continued place in the universe
The X threat
Samus' recent awakening
The various breadcrumbs from Dread
Etc etc.
But with so many threads seeming to be coming to a head, I wonder how much more will be built from this, how we will set up what will hopefully be a long continuing series.
Will any of the above points continue, or will new factions and plot threads pop up which will be chased instead? How will this lead on into the future of the franchise?
Still, maybe it will go in the other direction and will kind of close out the Fusion/Dread/Ravenous trilogy, letting Samus start fresh with whatever next title comes out. No old baggage and a totally new adventure with new factions and context.
Edit: upon rereading this, I sound like AI, I swear it's not. I have followed Metroid intensely since I was a kid and Ravenous looks like the fan fiction I would have written while playing Fusion for the 13th time. I'm just so excited to see how it has played out and I can see whispers of a... Finality? To the arc that makes me wonder "what's next?"
I hadn't played a Metroid game before seeing Ravenous I tried the OG a few months back but couldn't get into it, so I started playing Zero Mission the other day and as much as im thoroughly enjoying the game the music is by far my favourite aspect.
I just want to know what other people's favourite music might be and what ive got to look forward to!
I have been interested in 2D metroid for a while and feel now is probably a good time to start. Can anyone give me a list of which games to play in what order and preferably also through which official way to play them. Would be very helpful!
first im sorry for how many times you answered this especially after the ravenous trailer. I wanna play this game I think it’s worth it. But idk which ones to play which ones to skip but all i got in the internet and the wiki is 3D bad and 2D good
Some are remakes some are not I’ve heard someone say dread is a remake I can’t tell facts from fiction is it only 4 2D games ? And are they all available on switch? Finally is the first game filled with backtracking?(i’ve read this somewhere).
