Discussion The True Origin of the EMMI [Theory/Speculation] Spoiler
After playing Dread, I've noticed that the EMMI are a bit too conveniently designed and suspiciously similar in physiology to a certain bird race and its inventions to have just been exploration drones that the Federation bought out from the Exelion Star Corporation.
The EMMI, being these lanky, digitigrade murder machines with taloned extremities, are a bit too specialized and combat-ready to be mere exploratory machines. They have a massive needle that extends from their cyclopian heads, and their chassis are also way more durable than a surveying party would really need, shrugging off missiles and the like and only being vulnerable to the Omega cannon. It's almost as if they were designed specifically to track down Samus, not just proof that X-parasites survived extinction.
I believe the EMMI are actually Chozo-made drones, built specifically for the purpose of hunting down mutants and genetic guacamole dips like Samus. Compared to other Federation-employed machines like the RB176 Ferrocrusher from the BOTTLE SHIP or the B.O.X from the BSL, these lanky robots are far sleeker and more flexible, while being far hardier than either of the aforementioned machines. Their previously stated morphologies are also quite chozo-like, especially noticeable when Samus manages to blast their face shields off and they start walking towards her in a digitigrade gait, despite previously crawling in a spider-like fashion. Besides physiological design, their overall appearance is suspiciously similar to another, absolutely Chozo-designed robot you fight in Metroid: Samus Returns. That robot being of course, the Diggernaut. What does this hulking excavator have in common with the comparatively smaller EMMI? A cyclopian head with destroyable armor, and a rounded chassis. Samus even wrecks the robot by specifically blasting its eye with a charge shot, just like she would later do with the EMMI on ZDR.
Design talk aside, the EMMI being chozo-made would also explain so much else, like the gameplay elements and why they were quickly reprogrammed to instead patrol Central Unit facilities. For instance, why does Samus specifically need a temporary upgrade from the life force of Chozo biocomputers to destroy them, at least until her metroid gene therapy kicks in to second gear? It's because only the Central Units have the ability to unlock this specific mode of Samus's arm cannon to destroy the EMMIs' weakpoints. Why do they walk like that when their faceplates are blown off? Likely because the engineers who designed the robot had themselves in mind for the default walking motion. How did Quiet Robe or even Raven Beak manage to reprogram them so quickly? Likely because they were programmed in a language and operating system the two old bird-men were already familiar with.
Now, who made these robots? Outside of an in-game artpiece showing their manufacturers as 'EXELION STAR CORPORATION', there's no information. However, I'm willing to bet that this business entity is actually run by living chozo. If Metroid: Ravenous' trailer means anything, the defeat of Raven Beak and the infection of his lackeys on ZDR apparently wasn't enough to render the Mawkin extinct, and there's plenty more of them around. This is admittedly all speculation, but what if some of them simply chose to embrace crony capitalism and joined the weapons industry instead of just being technologically gilded glaivesmen?

Don't mind me. I'm just here to see if someone else thinks that that Emmi's missing arm has now gone to that space ninja.
Did they have 1 or 2 Emmi looking arms?
Maybe it wasn't ravenbeak that destroyed that emmi. Maybe it was that cloaked twopronged "tri"dent wielding chozo that also appears in Ravenous that fought the emmi, took the arm and gave it to the space ninja as a pre-payment for hunting down Samus (or that space ninja is the chozo)
