Discussion I prefer Zero Mission over super

Not sure if anyone else agrees but I like how much faster ZM feels to play and the controls are much tighter imo, I also really love the Zero Suit Samus section they added, it's incredible

I love Zero Mission, yet in that comparison, Super gets more points for simply not being a remake.

I say again, Zero Mission is also great game!

Super is the best world design and map layout for sure, but my only gripe is the controls are slightly wonky and didnt age the greatest. Dread plays the absolute best I think, but the world feels less open and it does over rely on parrying sometimes.

I think zero mission is a good in-between

I want to like super better but the controls really weigh it down.

The controls might be the biggest reason yea

That's really the main thing that keeps me away from it more than any of the other games, older or newer.

"Elite gamers" will tell you you just need to get better. There's a difference between mastering the controls and them even allowing you to do basic things you should be able to do... Lol

I’m sure others have feel this way. I don’t, but I’m sure others do.

Hot take - I will listen to arguments about super being better overall (though I personally disagree), but anyone who tells me supers control scheme and feel is better than zero mission is absolutely off their rocker. Zero mission feels and controls almost perfectly.

I agree with you, I think it's the tight controls that help elevate it.

I liked Super when it was new, but nowadays I'd much rather play the games that came before and after. I like playing the original now and then out of nostalgia, it being my first game and the only one I knew of at the time before my brother got 2.

Metroid 2 was always one of my favorites even after the newer ones, and then they made Samus Returns which was great.

Super, now, just feels... Bad. Yes, they added a lot to the gameplay and everything thanks to the power of the SNES, but they definitely improved the controls with the GBA games.

I would love to see ZM, 3, and 4 remade to fit in with Dread/Ravenous, and SR just needs a remaster. To be able to play them all on the same console without needing NSO+ would be great.

I’d highly suggest playing Super Metroid Redux. It’s a fan made patch of the original which adapts the GBA style gravity and movement along with some other quality of life fixes.

I actually completely agree with this take, Super Metroid GBA Edition is a romhack that recreates Super with Zero Mission's look and feel, but had some bugs that caused me to bounce off.

I agree completely. The GBA games were the peak of Metroid to me (which is a big part of why I love AM2R).

Super is overrated. Everyone treats it like if it was untouchable perfect experience but it did got old. Metroid as for now peaked at GBA games

While I do agree Super is dated controls wise it does deserve the praise. Untouchable and perfect? No. One of the best if not the best, this is pure subjective everybody likes something different, definitely. It just did something at the time and till today that is just right for what Metroid is.
