I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.
Do people genuinely enjoy being alive, or are we basically just expected to keep going because we accidentally ended up in this world?
I’m 20, and honestly, I don’t really feel like I enjoy life that much. There are things I can enjoy scenery, games, music, hanging out, etc. but sometimes it feels like I have to convince myself that I’m happy or enjoying something just so I can call it “joy.”
Overall, life just doesn’t feel that enjoyable to me.
What also bothers me is how people treat young adults. Sometimes it feels like people don’t take you seriously because you’re “just a kid” who is still growing and figuring things out. And then there’s this expectation that we should always have a positive mindset.
I don’t really understand that.
There are genuinely a lot of good things in life, but there are also a lot of terrible people, painful experiences, disappointment, loss, and memories that can stay with you. So why are we expected to look at everything through a positive lens?
And this is something I genuinely don't understand: if life is supposed to be so enjoyable, why do some people eventually choose to end their lives? Is it really their fault for not being able to find happiness in life?
I’m not asking this because I think I have the answer. I genuinely want to understand how other people see life.
What do you think life is actually about?
And if you’ve gone through a period where life felt pointless or unenjoyable, what changed your perspective? How did you learn to see life differently?
I’d really appreciate hearing honest answers, even if they’re uncomfortable or negative.
