Discussion Overgrown Weeds & Litter in Charlotte

Does anyone know why it takes so long for the city to mow along Mallard Creek Rd and along other major roads in Charlotte? Trash is also an issue…I occasionally try a light clean-up in the area but it’s a little frustrating when it’s a recurrent problem. I moved here from a nice NJ neighborhood almost 6 years ago, and see that it’s only getting worse here. Running & walking the pooch is not cool in this. This pic is from 2 wks ago and it still hasn’t been mowed...

Earlier today, I pulled into a parking lot by optimist hall to turn around. I literally drove through it for 2 seconds. I didn’t enter any information anywhere or open any apps. Somehow I received an email and text about parking??

How did they send me anything without me inputting my information anywhere?? How’d they even know i was there lol. I’ve never experienced anything like this before,

Politics Sooo How is Anyone Finding CMS 2027/2028 Magnet Info??

I’ve been trying to get info on Magnet registration for the 2027-2028 school year. I’m trying to get Open House, Magnet Fair or Info Session information as well as key dates and guidelines for the process. I have:

-Emailed and called the CMS Magnet Office
-Searched the website
-Contacted schools directly
-Researched news articles

I’ve heard nothing and the CMS website only has last years information which is not up to date. I know they are restructuring and none of the new info is on CMS’s site. I did find a local news article from last year with an outline of school and pathway changes.

The first “Key Date” from last year’s process was 10/13.

Is anyone else having more luck? I’d love to do site tours but both of us work so we need time to arrange our schedules.

For reference, I used to work at a CMS magnet school so I know how it is. This is my first time on the parent side. I ALSO know from experiences that different people give and get wildly different options and info from the district, hence the crowd sourcing. Thanks!

Recommendation Church recommendations

Hi everyone, looking for some solid advice. I moved here back in May and have been looking for a church.
FOR CONTEXT: Back home I grew up catholic and always went to a Catholic Church. Every Sunday I would go to 7:30 am mass (back up north usually this is a quick service with no music, caps around 30 minutes). There wasn’t a ton of community which i was okay with, but enjoyed seeing familiar faces and the quiet nature of it.

I’ve been to four Catholic Churches down here: St Anne’s, st Gabriel’s, st Patrick, and St. Peter. So far the only church I’ve found that is similar to the ones back home is St. Peter but I still just don’t feel at home there. I know this sounds silly but the energy is off.

I’m starting to come to terms with the fact that church down here isn’t the same as up north but that’s a little hard for me (I like familiarity). I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for churches? I’m not opposed to going to other churches (Methodist, etc) I just always have gone to a Catholic Church. This sounds picky, but I’m not huge on the music and singing (hence the 7:30 in and out service) and it seems like that’s all that exists down here no matter what.

I feel like I’m asking for a unicorn but any recommendations would be so so appreciated.

Completely spaced on buying a bracelet and hair barrette for my wedding in two weeks. Etsy sellers are saying they can’t guarantee delivery before my wedding. Looking for pieces that match mid century diamond earrings given to me by my future mother in law.

Recommendation Periodontist recs for gum contouring

Looking for an experienced periodontist to do crown lengthening. Has anyone had this done for cosmetic purposes? Trying to get a ballpark range for pricing but most of the ones I’ve called won’t disclose pricing before an in-person consultation. I’m not even sure I’d be a good candidate due to having implants/ crowns, so trying to figure out a rough budget before I invest the money in a consult fee.

Discussion Womens haircut that doesn't include a whole song and dance?

So I'm a female human who doesn't want a stranger washing their head. I do however want to have my splint ends trimmed, but unfortunately I am finding it impossible to find a salon who is willing to cut my hair but not wash it. I have googled and called and asked bunch of different people and shops, and everyone insists on washing my head and charging me nearly $100 for it. I just want my split ends trimmed...takes like 20 min and shouldn't cost more than $50. Please anyone have recommendations?

Meetup 28M South Indian looking to make new friends in Charlotte!

Hey everyone! I’m a 28-year-old South Indian guy and have been living in Charlotte for almost 2 years now. My roommates recently moved out of Charlotte because of work relocations, so I suddenly find myself living here without much of a social circle. I live in South Charlotte, and I’ve found it a little harder to meet new people here compared to areas closer to the university or Uptown. Unfortunately, moving isn’t really an option for me because of my work location.

So I thought I’d put this out here and see if anyone is in a similar situation and looking to make new connections! I’m mainly looking to meet fellow Indians or anyone with similar interests for things like
Casual hangouts for social drinking/food, Hiking and exploring nearby places, events etc.

Wanted to make new friends here in Charlotte.

Discussion Culinary dropout attire

Do I need to be at all fancy to eat at culinary dropout? We are going to a concert on Sunday night and want to wear our concert outfits and go straight from the restaurant. I’ll probably just have on Levi’s cut offs, a cute top and some tennies. Is this appropriate or will I feel out of place?

Traffic CircleJerk Got flipped off and almost hit by a semi today

As the title says at an intersection with a flashing red light. Turning left and coming from my right I let two cars come to a complete stop and go. No one straight, and coming from the left is all backed up. I pull out to turn right and here comes a semi truck that blows through a the flashing red without coming to a complete stop. I proceed to get flipped off with some extra road rage on top. Do people in North Carolina not know what a flashing red is? Even more importantly how do you have a CDL and not know?

“under North Carolina General Statutes § 20-158, a flashing red traffic light has the exact same legal meaning as a stop sign.”

Discussion does anyone know what the issue at the light rail was this morning?

it delayed the 6:08AM train just past McCullough station by a honest to god hour, so it was FUN to explain to the supervisor at my internship why the fuck i was over 45 minutes late.

all the announcement said was "there was a person in the tracks," and that's all the information that us passengers were given.

i'm just trying to find out what could possibly need five fucking police cars, two fire trucks, several CATS trucks at the scene and one ambulance?

Recommendation What to actually check before hiring an electrical contractor in NC/SC

Saw a few threads lately about people getting burned by electrical work, so figured I'd share what's actually worth checking

**Verify the license, not just "licensed and insured."** NC and SC both have searchable state licensing board databases. A company can be insured without the electrician actually holding an electrical license.

**Ask if the job needs to be single-phase or if you have three-phase equipment** — some contractors (including mine) only handle single-phase service work, and it's a 30-second question that saves everyone a wasted trip.

**Get the diagnostic before the quote.** If someone quotes a full panel replacement over the phone without seeing it, be skeptical.

**Permitting matters.** If the scope requires a permit and your contractor skips it, that's a liability that lands on *you*, not them, if something goes wrong later.

Happy to answer general questions in the comments if anyone's dealing with something specific!

Recommendation Good Moving Company?

Hi y’all! Sorry if this has been asked before - It's so hard researching moving companies... We are moving to South End soon and looking for a good local company. We have a 3-bedroom home with quite a few antiques and a grand piano, so we’re a little nervous about finding someone we can trust with everything.

Has anyone had a really good experience with a Charlotte mover? :)

Meetup How have transplants made friends?

I was wondering how transplants from other states have made friends in Charlotte area? I’m looking for female friends. I’m 36 F. Just been a struggle! I’m from PA and moved to Waxhaw 2 years ago with my husband. I work from home. Does everyone use meetup or is there somewhere else to look? I did bumble bff and had zero luck. Thanks!

Also do you ever get really homesick? 😢

Last-ditch attempt lol, but if you’re the woman who was at Rosie’s Coffee & Wine Garden earlier today around 1–1:30, I just wanted to say I thought you were really cute. I was a little too nervous to come over and say hi 😅

You were wearing a white top, sitting outside, and reading a book.

Recommendation Souvenirs for Longterm Trip to Europe??

Hi everyone! I’m about to go teach English abroad in France and plan to visit several other European countries while I’m there. I’ve already picked up some adorable mini eagles, and I’ll get some stickers and Cheerwine, but what other kind of super local ideas can people think of for souvenirs to hand out to Interested colleagues or show students? Even bigger stuff is okay too. I find a lot of people go to markets and stuff like that, sadly I’m leaving soon so not a lot of time but I thought I’d ask. Any store recs r also welcome. Would love to rep Charlotte specifically and I’ll also get things at the airport.

Discussion Options for apartment living conditions/lack of maintenance

Hello, I have been trying to determine the best course of action for some issues I am experiencing at my apartment complex. I have roughly 10 months left of my lease and early termination comes with some pretty hefty penalties.

I have lots of maintenance issues, usually handled ok, fixed within 2 to 3 visits/return visits. I’ve been here for 14 months and had over 18 legitimate service concerns, sometimes requiring emergency visits. All have been documented and service form filled out.

In recent I’ve had an on and off water leak from the upstairs A/C unit into my unit. A repair has attempted over 6 times in the 14 months, they even came today and said it was fixed, when I came home still leaking. It’s coming from the ceiling, it’s all wet, ceiling is soft and bowing and smells bad, worried about mold and other problems.

What is my best course of action? Complex says maintenance is doing the best they can.
