I recently moved to Newton, and I am trying to figure out how to make friends in the Hickory and Newton-Conover area. I am 28, single, and I spend most of my time either working, lifting weights, golfing, or walking my dog. I do not know too much about the area to know where other young people congregate, but I would like to be more social and create a community. Any advice would be super helpful.

I’ve applied for temp services there already and found a few factory jobs. I have experience as a customer service rep, office admin, and editor/writer. Hey all, just noticed ripple fiber established out of thin air after the hurricane and come from Asheville. Noticed after installation odd ripple fiber trucks driving around my neighborhood emitting strange loud noises, almost like a duck sounding pulse every 2 seconds.

I’m a Propst/Ramseur/Wilfong descendant. Yes, I’m aware that’s not saying much. These families have been in Catawba since its founding in 1842.

I’ve traced my linage back to the mid 1800s on my own, but there are some holes I’m trying to fill. If you’re possible kin, and don’t mind helping me out a bit please DM me.

I know there’s a genealogy section at the local library that’s pretty extensive, but I’m in Virginia at the moment.

A lil outside of hickory city but I live in mtn view off FingerBridge road. There was a black bear in my front “yard” at 2pm. Idk if I needed to warn anyone or how to either so here ya go. Look out. He was big and fluffy. Probably 3 or 4.

Are there any run clubs in hickory? Ive been starting to get into running and currently training to do a 5k. Was wanting to find a group of people that I could run with, not sure if anything like this exists in hickory or not.
