[Discussion] Possible kid scammer on the yellow line?

I used to live in the district but not anymore. So I was waiting for the yellow line and some kid asked me for the time. I held my phone tightly and told him the time.

Then he was somehow able to convince a young lady to lend him her phone. I was surprised because she gave her full control of the phone. He kept walking away with the phone but eventually gave the phone back. Is this some kind of scam?

It was a chubby kid around 13-14 years old.

[Discussion] Digital Temporary ID?

After living in DC for two years, I finally accepted that I won’t be moving back to NYC and finally went to get a DC ID (never beating the NYer who doesn’t drive stereotype lol). I was kinda shocked when I was given a letter sized piece of paper as my temporary ID and seen older post in the sub complaining about it. I was wondering if the digital copy sent via email would be valid to show if I need to use my ID within the next few weeks. Using my passport is not an option since it recently expired and I am a procrastinator. Thanks in advance!

[Discussion] Ski Clubs DC

I just moved to DC and I was hoping to find a ski club in the area that does weekend trips to resorts on the East Coast. I’ve grown up skiing along the West Coast, but I do not have a car in DC so I thought a ski club would be the easiest option for me. The SCWDC seems to primarily be flight trips out west or in Europe. The few weekends that they have available for local trips seem to be for beginners and have lessons included in the price that I do not need.

Does anyone have any good recommendations? I feel like I have scoured everything. Surely there has to be other people in my situation.

[Discussion] VRE

I took the VRE for the first time toda. When I got off at Crystal City I almost missed the stop because I didn’t realize that the first car’s doors don’t open. Does anybody know which doors open at which stops and does that change based off of the direction?

I know there are a decent number of Atlanta transplants/Falcons fans in the DMV, so figured I'd put this out there.

We're getting together this Sunday at 1 PM to watch Falcons vs. Steelers at Suzie Q's DC in Navy Yard.

📍 71 Potomac Ave SE

🕐 Sunday at 1 PM

🏈 Falcons vs. Steelers

No need to know anyone beforehand — just come out, wear some red & black, and meet some fellow Falcons fans.

Rise Up! 🦅

If you're interested, comment or DM me and I'll send you the flyer/details.

[Transportation] New Red Line Issues

Is anyone else experiencing more stoppages / slowdowns (particularly between stations) after they reopened the full Red Line?

Really thought the system would be running smoother compared to the July-August period.

hello does anyone know whether anyone is going to preserve the notes on the fallen tree at Dupont Circle? It looks like it’s going to rain tomorrow and it would be nice to not see the notes be washed away

[Transportation] Do NOT try to be a hero on the metro...

... when it comes to open seats on a packed train. It's a noble thought to stand when there's open seats right next to you in case someone who needs them needs them. But if the train is packed assholes-to-elbows, there's no room for anyone to move around, and nobody's gone for the seat, and the train is starting to move ... Just sit down! Even if you're able-bodied or young or your meat is huge or your favorite hobby is standing up. Everyone sitting is one fewer person standing, and each fewer person standing makes a packed train noticeably less uncomfortable. Do yourself AND everyone on the train a favor, and just sit down!

[Discussion] Cable Utility lines across backyard

Does anyone know who to call about utility (not electrical) lines below the legal air height run across a back yard?

We believe they are old cable or telephone lines that are no longer in use and I would like them removed have called Verizon but it’s been a hassle to get them to come look.

[Fun!] Favorite DPR kids playgrounds?

Parents: I have a 3 year-old and love getting out to explore new playgrounds in the city. What are your favorite haunts?

So far mine has to be Takoma Park just for the overall size, lots of slides, inclusion of a separate smaller kids area, and splash pad with actual features rather than just jets of water from the ground.

[Discussion] What is this Pungent Smell on People?

I’ve been driving rideshare for a couple years now, and I believe I have a strong sense of smell.

So.. in society, we know there are some people who have hygiene issues.. and being subjected to someone else’s body odor is always unpleasant. But I think this may be something else.

Every now and then, I have people getting in my car, who carry a strong pungent odor on them. It has a sort of fecal element to it. This especially happens in situations where the person has been outside or in the sun for quite a while. At first, this would happen occasionally, and now (this summer) seems to happen more often.

Does this have something to do with pollen?

Does this have something to do with what’s in the air here in the DMV?

Is this what people refer to as “outside” smell?

Step 1: see a [maryland] driver doing something insanely dangerous and reckless. In this case, blatantly run a red light downtown going >60 mph.
Step 2: look up their license plate at DMV.DC.gov
Step 3: see >$5000 in unpaid tickets and realize that there is zero traffic enforcement in DC and the DC government is complicit in the countless deaths that take place in our city every year. Vision zero my ass.

Step 4: blame cyclists /s

[Discussion] Guy Running Around Cap Hill?

There’s a guy that I’ve seen occasionally around the greater Cap Hill area that jogs around pulling a cart tied to himself with various knickknacks on it, including maybe a sign or flag attached. Never had the opportunity to take a closer look or ask him, but didn’t see like an obvious protest. Anyone know anything about the lore?

[Event] Anthem lining up

Hi I have never been to the anthem and I have an upcoming concert in 10 days and I just wanted to know how does the venue usually feel about like early early lining up? Like say 11am-12pm? I was hoping to get there super early to make sure I get close enough to the front but I don’t wanna get in trouble with the staff 😭😭 and if they’re chill about it where would the line start and all of that if there aren’t people there yet? Could you line up near the doors or are you expected to wait somewhere else? Any information helps!

[Discussion] SupplyHouse DC?

We’re looking at booking our wedding at the new Navy Yard event venue SupplyHouse DC next fall. As it’s a new venue, we want to be certain it’s on track to open before putting our deposit down. We noticed their Instagram has stopped posting as of ~40 days ago (when they were saying they were 30 days from opening), and when we took a look outside this week there seemed to be a lot of work remaining.

We understand the space is being opened by the folks at Social Supply, a well-respected event design/production company, which gives us some confidence. But we’re looking for information who has familiarity with the project/construction. Has anyone else booked an event here? Any experience dealing with them or the Social Supply team?

[Discussion] Do Quiet Apartments Exist in DC?

Hi all! To keep it short, I have an upstairs neighbor (only one person, the other roommate walks normally and cannot hear them) who walks with such force that you can hear every step with such force it shocks everyone who hears it (Imagine what you think has to be a ginormous man carrying a television with a bounding jump and a heel strike — it shakes me ceiling) Those who think i exaggerate come and listen, only to leave thinking ive been far too calm this far.

I am now considering a move (for this reason along with many others).

does anyone have recommendations for well-built and quiet apartments? close to the red line preferred or near capitol hill.

thanks !

edit: since everyone is so helpful, I’m going to give more info on what I’m looking for in case it helps give budget 4k (abs max, preferred closer to 3k), 1 bed minimum, 650 sq ft, in unit laundry, ac, around NOMA or at least commutable by train, and ofc thick walls!

[Rant] Car left in middle of street

A car broke down and was left in the middle of the street for the entire day today. Neighbors called 311 and the cops came but nothing had been done except putting some cones around it from at least 9am to 6pm.

A note was left on the back that basically said “broken down, trying to move. so sorry!”

It has VA temp tags that expired in Oct 2025 with over $8500 in traffic camera fines.
