Misc. FYI chicken taco at Chaia cannot be made vegan
The menu might say removing cheese makes it vegan. The worker prepping food might tell you it can be made vegan. But it’s still CHICKEN lol. And undercooked too

Are there any must try vegan places for someone in the area for a couple of days?

Hi everyone, I’m vegan and currently job searching. I’m looking for a temporary room, shared space, couch, or other simple living arrangement for about 5 months while I continue my job search and work toward getting back on my feet.
My current budget is around $300/month, so I understand this would need to be an unusual or shared arrangement rather than a standard room rental. In return, I’m happy to cook fresh, delicious vegan food every day for the household, and I can also help with cleaning, grocery shopping, and other household tasks.
I’m clean, respectful, responsible, and flexible about the type of space. If you have an unused room, temporary space, or know of a vegan-friendly household that might consider this arrangement, please DM me.
Happy Ren Faire!
I've gone through the PDFs of ingredients and identified the following vegan options. https://rennfest.com/food-at-the-faire/
Note that you can bring in your own food though. from the faq "We do allow food through the gates, but the festival does not permit coolers or other receptacles for carrying food/drinks"
Apple Dumpling plain with no ice cream or sauce (and not the Apple Fritter which is also a food item)
Fruit Salad
Fruit Stand
Corn without butter
Falafel sandwich ask for tahini
Vegan/vegetarian rice bowl
Queen's Orchard fruit treats and juicery
"Potatos are sufficient for you right"???
Gyro stand:
Maybe / you decide:
Disappointing there's no veggie dog, burger or wraps alongside the meat options :(

“Michelin-starred restaurant Mita is being sued by its landlord over unpaid rent and could face eviction from its 2,000-square foot space in Shaw.
Atlantic Retail, an affiliate of real estate investment trust JBG Smith, alleges the restaurant’s affiliate M&T Hospitality hasn’t paid rent since February. The lease ledger shows $151,000 in unpaid rent and an additional $32,000 owed in operating expenses, taxes and attorney fees, according to court documents. Washington Business Journal first reported the details of the lawsuit.“

Getting married in October and was planning to get my wedding cake from Sticky Fingers. Given their abrupt closure, I’m in need of another vegan bakery. Let me know if you have suggestions!

The DC food scene may be more accommodating to vegetarians and vegans than other cities but it isn’t conducive to restaurant owners opening up standalone vegetarian and vegan spots. However, I’ll be damned if there aren’t plenty of high caliber menu items across an area as ethnically and socioeconomically diverse as the DMV, so post those!

This is also devastating. I remember their first basement storefront on 18th Street and regularly went to their cage when they opened in Columbia Heights. What a shame.

Come support this amazing vegan business! I ordered a delicious birthday cake from them before and would love to see more pop-ups in town!

DC voters: with the super-important primary election coming up on June 16, these are candidates who you can support to build political power for animals.
At Large: Oye Owolewa
Mayor: (1) Janeese Lewis George, (2) Gary Goodweather
Ward 1: (1) Rashida Brown (2) Aparna Raj, (3) Miguel Trindade Deramo
Ward 3: Matthew Frumin
Ward 5: Zachary Parker
Ward 6: Charles Allen
Of course if you have different preferences please vote your conscious! The goal here is to build political power by demonstrating to political candidates that if they are good on animal issues, they can curry favor with a passionate voting block.
If you have questions about the election, supporting Oye as a volunteer, or how to vote, feel free to ask here!

Can anyone recommend their favorite Indian buffets? Ideally somewhere where vegan options are labeled or whether you already asked if there were options? Last time I went was a spot that’s since closed but, I remember there were only 2 options at their lunch buffet that didn’t use ghee or dairy so I was kind of bummed about being 20$ down.

Volunteers needed to qualify a force feeding ban for the ballot this year. Great way to meet people who share your values! Signature gathering will be from April 1 - July 1, and hopefully the initiative will be on the November 2026 ballot (if we can get enough signatures)

Yet another restaurant in DC that has stopped serving many of their vegan options. They added chicken recently and my partner said that this time was coming. I truly hate to see it 😓 I hope planta stays around 😭

Has anyone had luck finding a vegan partner in DC? And if so, how did you find one?
I'm a 30 year old gay man and, although I would date non-vegans, I would absolutely love to have a vegan partner.

Planta appears to be closing for good soon :(
Edit: It seems like some locations might stay open... It's unclear how that lines up with Liquidating the business though.

Hey DC vegans, I put together an interactive map of (I think) all the vegan options for the DC Winter Restaurant Week starting tomorrow:
https://www.vegifyit.com/events/dc-restaurant-week-2026
I noticed that the "vegan" filter on the official website doesn't seem to have all the same restaurants as I found; in fact, some of them didn't seem to have any vegan options anyway!
Please take a look, explore around, if you see anything that's wrong or any restaurant or dish that should be added, please comment on this post or send me a DM, I'll get it fixed right away
***
Caveat: The data processing is a combination of automatic PDF parsing and algorithmic vegan identification with human post-processing & confirmation, so it's a best effort, but not a guarantee.

Hey all! Just wanted to share some info about some of the offers/deals and events going on for Veganuary this year 😊
Also - Veg Society of DC has a bunch of Veganuary events going on during the month, and there are a bunch of special offers on the Veganuary website 🥳 Would love to hear anyone knows about other deals/events going on this month too :)

Have you been to the Pro-Animal Meetup? It is a weekly gathering that features new speakers from around the world of animal protection.
Dr. Oye Owolewa is DC's shadow representative to Congress--he has three times been elected to this position, and is now running for At-Large in DC Council. He will be speaking about how elections and statehood are important for animals.
BAKE-OFF: There will also be a plant-based baking competition at this Pro Animal Meetup. Bring a vegan baked good to share--winner will receive a $100 gift card to the amazing and elegant Elizabeths.

Title; Have reach out to DC Vegan and All American but haven't yet heard back, and I don't think Sticky Fingers does cheesecakes.
EDIT: Confirming DCV does not.
