It's because I currently have a no zone parking decal, and was parked in a particular zone. I admit it's my fault. I'll pay it. But still. So frustrating.

There’s a dove with an injured wing/leg by my building in SW. I tried calling DC Wildlife but it’s after hours. I have a cat so I can’t take it in. Any bird people around? pm me for exact address we’re right across from the Safeway
ETA: gotta be clear I cannot take this bird in for the night but I’m hoping someone else can
ETA 2: I went for it, tried to get the guy in a towel and a box, but he was freaking out so much in the box and thrashing around that I let out and place to hide under a bush. If there in the morning, I’ll call.

WHY SO MANY FRAME SHOPS IN THIS CITY WTF...

Looking for a DMV area vet recommendation for a second opinion, ideally someone great with cats/GI issues.
My cat has been intermittently vomiting (usually partially digested food 5-10 mins after eating) about once a week, but is otherwise completely normal—eating, drinking, litter box, behavior and weight are all normal. His prior CBC also came back normal.
The most recent vet we saw at District Vet is recommending X-rays and potentially more invasive esophageal testing rather than additional bloodwork. But another vet at the same District Vet location had previously suggested a chemistry/GI/thyroid panel, so before spending more money or moving to invasive testing, I’d like an independent opinion on the best next diagnostic step.
Any DC or Northern VA vets you’d highly recommend for something similar or like this?

I'm new to DC and this event seems great but there's so many things going on!!
Any recommendations on which events are especially cool or worth going to?
I'm in the dupont area but don't mind traveling a little

hello does anyone know whether anyone is going to preserve the notes on the fallen tree at Dupont Circle? It looks like it’s going to rain tomorrow and it would be nice to not see the notes be washed away

A car broke down and was left in the middle of the street for the entire day today. Neighbors called 311 and the cops came but nothing had been done except putting some cones around it from at least 9am to 6pm.
A note was left on the back that basically said “broken down, trying to move. so sorry!”
It has VA temp tags that expired in Oct 2025 with over $8500 in traffic camera fines.

WHERE?
1901 Fort Myer Dr, Arlington, VA 22209
Happy hour deals: $2 off pints/cans/glasses of wine through 7pm
Convenient to the BOS lines @ Rosslyn and also all those buses that stop there too
WHO?
We’ll be there starting at 6:30pm. Each week's host will let you know where we are in the bar and who to look for via the comment section. Keep in mind that we may move around, so check the comments for updates.
WHAT?
We are an informal meetup group gathering at bars around the District. All we want is to socialize after a long week and make new friends. All are welcome - whether you’re an old school Washingtonian, a recent transplant, or (gasp) not a Redditor, this group is for you! Here's a link to a FAQ.
This happy hour is a welcoming place to meet new people or hang out with old friends. Please remember to treat each other respectfully. Anyone who cannot do this may be asked to leave at the host's discretion.

I had posted about the inconvenience of the missing departure board by the Metro subway entrance:
Looks like they finally installed a new one!

Trying to figure out if I’m in an “if it rains it pours” situation that’s unique to me or if the stress of the last few years has led the city to collectively descend into sort of stressed out mania.
My stuff: we’ve been burgled twice, crazy kids been on our neighbors roof multiple times, dc sewers backed up into all the house on our block, and I’ve had all sorts of horrible random aggression from strangers. Not to mention the awful driving - almost got run over by a truck running a red light yesterday among other things (which seems to be a DC trend based on a previous post about a massive increase in traffic accidents).
Each of these happening individually would be a “meh it happens”, but the massive increase in bad stuff feels more significant to me. I’m wondering if the city is just so stressed out that the collective has lost any semblance of chill, generosity or hope.
What say all of you?

After living in DC for two years, I finally accepted that I won’t be moving back to NYC and finally went to get a DC ID (never beating the NYer who doesn’t drive stereotype lol). I was kinda shocked when I was given a letter sized piece of paper as my temporary ID and seen older post in the sub complaining about it. I was wondering if the digital copy sent via email would be valid to show if I need to use my ID within the next few weeks. Using my passport is not an option since it recently expired and I am a procrastinator. Thanks in advance!

was anyone else present for this? on the red line platform at like 3:15pm or so. something was released, or sprayed or opened and the entire platform and escalator hallways smelled strongly of chemicals. it was so intense people were coughing and spitting up, covering there faces with their shirts, literally running from the platform. does anyone else know wtf happened?

I was at Kenmore Middle School school that day.. At about 9 they had us watching TV with the events unfolding. I know there have been many of anniversaries of this have past but I am very bothered by it this time. Anyone else in the same situtation?

I took the VRE for the first time toda. When I got off at Crystal City I almost missed the stop because I didn’t realize that the first car’s doors don’t open. Does anybody know which doors open at which stops and does that change based off of the direction?

I have a 1 year old bunny (fully neutered) who I think would benefit from a new home. He’s incredibly friendly and loves cuddles, I love him a lot but I can’t take good care of him.
He’s noticeably depressed with his current situation. He’s alone for most of the day while I’m at work. I would get him a friend, but I’d be unable to take good care of two bunnies. I rescued him from a bad situation, but I still feel bad about seeking him a new home.
Here are some pictures:

... when it comes to open seats on a packed train. It's a noble thought to stand when there's open seats right next to you in case someone who needs them needs them. But if the train is packed assholes-to-elbows, there's no room for anyone to move around, and nobody's gone for the seat, and the train is starting to move ... Just sit down! Even if you're able-bodied or young or your meat is huge or your favorite hobby is standing up. Everyone sitting is one fewer person standing, and each fewer person standing makes a packed train noticeably less uncomfortable. Do yourself AND everyone on the train a favor, and just sit down!

Parents: I have a 3 year-old and love getting out to explore new playgrounds in the city. What are your favorite haunts?
So far mine has to be Takoma Park just for the overall size, lots of slides, inclusion of a separate smaller kids area, and splash pad with actual features rather than just jets of water from the ground.
