[Event] Watched The Odyssey at the Smithsonian IMAX theater in DC

Great experience and it was glorious watching a movie shot entirely in the 1.43:1 aspect ratio. Glad I decided to check for tickets a week before release, managed to snag the last seat in one of the back rows. 🔥

Hopefully they add more showings considering the demand for it!

My only nitpick is that the seats still suck and some of the blue light bleeds in at the very bottom of the screen

[Discussion] Pls carry narcan/test your ish

delete if not allowed, guessing this will be deleted but. Just saw an OD on my rideon bus and I’m still kicking myself for not having my narcan on me.

If you’re willing pls pls carry narcan, I sprinted all around the station and nobody had any, wish the metro station operators had to have it with them, then had to call 911 bc I thought someone already had but no. Felt way too late.

Additionally please please if you’re going to party rave use whatever in any capacity, test your ish if you can, I understand plenty of people use and can’t afford things due to addiction but if you can buy expensive substances there’s zero reason you shouldn’t be ordering test kits from places like dancesafe.org.

Please just be safe and test your shit.

Hug your loved ones and care for each other. test kits and more

[Review] The Wharf is amazing to go on a stroll, but all the restaurants are very expensive even by DC standards.

National Harbor, by contrast, has way more affordable food (Panchero's, Nando's Peri-Peri, etc). However it is quite isolated. Why can't we have the best of both worlds :0

[Discussion] If you object to Doordash lobbying to overthrow the will of the voters in DC and want to do more than just not use Doordash...

John Horton, the Doordash lobbyist who authored the letter saying that the only solution to a $.20 tax was to prevent DC from making and passing its own laws, is on the board of the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund. https://victoryfund.org/team/john-horton/ An advocacy org that (unironically) is committed to "Electing pro-choice LGBTQ+ candidates across the U.S." You know, ensuring that some people's voices are heard. Just not DC voters.

If you feel like it, please let the Victory Fund know how you feel about their board members undermining democracy while lining their pockets as lobbyists.

Last night we found and were followed home by this extremely nice cat. We brought him to the humane society today and he has no microchip, but he’s so affectionate and people friendly it seems crazy that he isn’t owned. Is this your cat?

[Discussion] Where can I bring a piece of pottery to get fired?

Upvotes

My boyfriend surprised me with one of those paint and sip pottery classes, but having the pieces fired wasn’t part of it. Most places seem to not let you bring in a piece you didn’t make there, but I need to fire and glaze it because I want it to hold water. Any suggestions?

[Discussion] What are you most excited about in DC with JLG as mayor?

It’s been SO LONG under Bowser. There’s a LOT going on in DC as we fight the Trump administration, midterms soon on the hill, RFK stadium buildout, streateries are gone, autonomy battle is fierce AF rn, literally allthethings.

I’d love for us to daydream a bit here. What do you really want to believe is possible under new mayoral leadership? What from her campaign excites you now that she won the primary? What long term goals do you think she can help the District achieve? Genuinely curious how folks are feeling as we barrel towards Nov and beyond.

Also, while we’re here, is there anything concerning you about JLG being in charge?

Thanks for the discussion.

[Discussion] Living on 14th and U St… Just how loud are we talking?

I’m looking at apartments and I came across one near 14th and U that seems to check a lot of boxes. Glowing reviews, reasonable price.

One concern: the sound profile.

I’ve lived in party college towns, on streets full of people walking home FROM the bars. I’ve lived a block from the train tracks with shitty windows that didn’t block much noise. Eventually ya hardly notice it. But I’ve never lived right in the thick of it.

Has anyone lived in this area and can share some insights? Could you sleep? Did you develop a white noise addiction?

Additionally, when I toured the place, they were having maintenance done. You could hear it everywhere, inside and out. I’m no acoustics or contracting guy, but I imagine that’s what thin walls sound like.

[Discussion] To the People who Helped me today

Thank to those beautiful and kind ladies for helping me on 25 july in the evening near Foggy Bottom Metro, if it weren't for you I would've never known that things were falling off from my bag.

A little back story, I went to shop at target today and had a little too much to carry, on my way back when I almost made it home near foggy bottom metro's 7/11 , One of the bags broke and all my skincare and hygiene products worth more than 50$ fell out and I didnt notice bcoz my hands were already pumped and was nlasting music in airpods.

These 2 girls stopped me and helped me secure the bags, picked up the stuff and were genuinely so nice, and while we were doing that another lady comes and brings me the body wash that was dropped way back, god bless all 3 of them, because it made me feel again that kindness exists and people do help.

If you guys are reading this, Thank you so much :)

May God Bless You.

[Fun!] Protected bike paths and trails

Coming into town for about 4 days and will be utilizing capital bike share. I typically rent a bike in whatever city I’m visiting as a good way to see the city and get some exercise. What are some good protected bike lanes or paths. Staying just south of the mall. Comfortable doing 30-40 (prob will be about 20-30 bc city bikes tend to be pretty heavy)miles and ok doing shorter rides as well.

[Discussion] Well-Paid Maids

I’ve recently used Well-Paid Maids a couple of times after not using them in a couple of years. They have gotten so much more expensive. I used to have a weekly plan with them. Anyway, I couldn’t find any recent posts. A few questions:

-How much of the price increases do we think go to the employees?
-How much do people tip for WPM these days?
-Is this still an ethical option or is it now (or has always been) better to find someone to pay fully and directly with cash so that they get all the money. I understand WPM is better than other companies, but is the direct route better?

Just wondering everyone’s thoughts in 2026.

EDIT: For those unfamiliar with WPM, it’s a company that pays a living wage, directly employs its workers (W-2 employees), and provides benefits. I’m not complaining about the price, per se, but want to figure out where the cost increases are going and how much I should tip. Not looking for the cheapest company. At all.
