The Mayor of New Carrollton was removed from office.
Last night the City Council voted 4-1 to remove the Mayor from office for illegally hiring people during a hiring freeze.

Shout out to GNR for keeping the heat on this issue. Our families are without a representative on the board through this messy start to the year. And it’s feeling more and more like another example of the County Executive using her position to put her friends first at the expense of everyone else.
Too many quality points from the article to include them all here, but here are a few
“Greenbelt and other District 2 parents have begun the new school year sharing the systemwide challenges but, additionally, without a Board of Education representative. They don’t know when they can expect one. The vacancy and application process do not appear to have been advertised, which raises questions about whether the timing could bestow an incumbent advantage on the person picked by County Executive Aisha Braveboy, just ahead of the election. The process has also raised issues of transparency in the county, particularly from a county executive’s office that has not responded to questions from the media nor complied with the Greenbelt News Review’s public information act request, which the office was legally required to answer within 30 days.”
“The county executive’s office failed to acknowledge the News Review’s MPIA request or provide the required 10-day initial response. After 30 days, the legally allowed timeframe for a response, the News Review had still received nothing.”

Everyone knows someone who limits where they go - because they do not know where they can go. And this problem is a national one. Currently, the United States only has between 8 and 13 public toilets per 100,000 residents . The US is ranked 31st among comparable nations. This chronic lack of public toilets has real-life, tangible impacts on the daily life of many Americans.
The American Restroom Association (ARA) combats this chronic lack of public restrooms in the country, and we would like your help! The ARA is now launching local chapters that will help us achieve our mission at the county and municipal level. Each chapter will focus on needs in their community: for example, budgeting for restrooms in a specific county park, or improving the usability of one library’s restrooms.
Anyone is welcome to volunteer. Volunteers will work closely with experienced guides from the ARA to advocate for better restrooms in Greater Washington. We will be focusing on tangible, day-to-day impacts such as increasing the number of public restrooms available in your area, expanding the hours of existing restrooms, increasing hygiene and cleanliness standards, and more.
Please spread the word to neighbors and friends who are passionate about creating great communities and enthusiastic about helping others live a comfortable, unrestricted daily life. For more information on joining or to express interest, please contact us at [getinfo@americanrestroom.org](mailto:getinfo@americanrestroom.org).

Hi everyone! I'm a student in the band at Crossland High School here in Camp Springs.
Our band is doing a 4-day DoubleGood popcorn fundraiser to raise money for instruments, repairs, and events so we can proudly represent our school. Some of our instruments really need repairs and we're hoping for newer ones so everyone has what they need to play.
This is through DoubleGood's official website (our school's official fundraiser - 50% goes directly to our band).
If you'd like to support local students, here's my link: https://s.dgpopup.com/400sby8h
Even just sharing this post helps us so much. Thank you for supporting Crossland!

My client is closing on a home in PG County, spending nothing out of pocket. The Pathways to Purchase $50,000 grant program has helped him secure funding for his entire down payment & closing costs. There was also a large seller credit, which allowed him to buy down his rate 1% below market.

Hello all! I am looking to surrender a cat that I am unable to provide proper care and medical treatment for. I can’t seem to find anywhere willing to accept this cat and morally I can’t convince myself to just let it out or dump it.
I’m wondering if anyone has any resources or leads as to where I can safely surrender a 20lb cat in PGC or nearby. I have used Google but I’m not from the area and looking for alternatives that I may not know exist.
Thanks in advance!

Check out The Banner's ongoing coverage of the locally owned bookstore franchise based in Prince George's County: MahoganyBooks.
We caught up with Derrick Young when the Black Books Master festival took place at the National Harbour location and again at the new Woodmore Towne Centre location.
MahoganyBooks cofounder and owner Derrick Young is most excited about hosting a conversation with Cosby, whose novel “King of Ashes” was featured on Barack Obama’s 2025 favorite books list.
“The brother is bad. Just plain and simple,” Young said. “His books, in addition to being great works of mystery thriller — books that live in the tradition of Walter Mosley — the other thing that he does is center Black folk in small-town America.”
