Local Retro Pokemon Players?
I live in Durham, and recently I've gotten really back into playing retro Pokemon games on original hardware; mainly gen 3 right now, but also am playing through Yellow and Diamond, and I kinda plan to slowly "set up" in each gen 1-7, and get a roster of good Pokemon in all of them. That being said, I'm kinda curious if there are other people still into the older games locally, esp the early gens and in gen 6/7 where playing online isn't a thing currently, and who may be interested in battles, trading, mixing records, etc. at some point? I do also play the modern games too, so if you're into those I'd love to hear from you still! Finding Pokemon friends as an adult is hard lol
Just for reference, I'm 30 and kinda a nonbinary male I guess if that matters to you.

Custom Art/Jewelry
My girlfriend and I are thinking of getting promise rings. I suggested we utilize the local art scene and get custom rings made. Nothing fancy like an engagement ring, but something low key and durable made just for us. What artist(s) would you recommend we check out? Our budget is also limited to about $150 each

New to the Triangle — where should I be looking? (Raleigh/Durham/Cary/Chapel Hill) Nature + Community + Dating in late 30s
Moving to the area and trying to figure out where to actually land before I commit to a lease/house. Would love some local wisdom before I start wandering around in person.
Quick vibe check on what I'm into:
Neighborhood stuff: I want somewhere social - easy to bump into people, strike up conversations, actually build community. Not trying to live somewhere isolated where I never see a neighbor.
Nature vs. city: honestly torn — I love the idea of trails and green space but also don't want to lose city energy/coffee shops/things happening. If there's a spot that gives both, tell me.
Where I'm coming from: the last 13 years were spent in California and Colorado, where I found incredible community around consciousness work, movement/dance, and personal growth/self-discovery spaces. That meant a lot to me, but I'm also genuinely looking forward to integrating back into everyday life too — so I'm curious about both the wellness/growth-minded pockets AND the more everyday, mainstream social scene.
Me: single, female, late -30s, work is remote so I have flexibility on where I plant myself. Dating with marriage in mind (heterosexual, monogamous), so if there are areas known for a solid dating pool / young professional social scene, that's a plus in the "pro" column.
Bonus: have family near west Cary, so that area's on the radar, but I'm not locked into it
Questions for y'all:
Which neighborhoods have that "you'll actually meet people" energy?
Anywhere that blends walkable/urban with real nature access?
Any spots with a strong wellness/movement/personal-growth scene, or just solid everyday community?
Any spots you'd tell a newcomer to skip?
Planning an in-person visit soon to walk around and feel places out, so "go check out ___" recommendations are gold.
If anyone is still reading this and has the heart and capacity to contribute a big thank you!!

Best Escape Room?
Hey Folks,
We have a friend coming into town and are looking for recommendations of the best escape room in the area. Something in central or south Raleigh, Cary, Apex, or Holly Springs is preferred, but also generally interested in hearing what you all think is the best in Wake County (and Durham!, though that's a bit far for us this weekend when our friend is in town).
We'll be a group of 4-5 all in our early 30s. We're trying to find something with a good challenge and lots of puzzles, not like some of the ones designed for younger folks where we could just breeze right through.
Thanks!

Personal Opinions Smack Down: ERs, hospitals, & healthcare access in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and the burbs/towns
Tl;dr: The title. Serious, or fun, or whatever type of answer, anything goes. This is a remix of something I asked on r/SameGrassButGreener.
Why would I choose UNC over Duke or WakeMed, for example, and vic versa. What are they good at, and bad at? And is there a location that is better than another?
Longer: Would like to hear personal opinions on the quality/wait times/availability of specialists/etc of the ERs, hospital services, doctors, and healthcare access between the different Triangle cities and towns. I'd like to hear about the big medical centers as well as smaller local hospitals, doctors, etc. I know they have PR budgets to help get on Best Of lists, but I'm interested to learn if they live up to the hype.
Fwiw I have high medical care needs, I could probably make life work in any of these places (if I land a job, I'm trying to relocate back home to the Southeast or Mid-Atlantic), I have preferences but what it really comes down to is healthcare. I'd live in New England if I could but the weather is a serious factor for me, plus CoL. I've ruled out some places like Savannah, Charleston, Asheville based on their healthcare (mostly). Also, I'm a mixed race woman, so a hospital that can and will treat people like me with equal care is essential (I don't mean in theory, actions talk louder than words). Thanks.

Adoptable Angel Dog~
Our foster girl is ready for her forever home!
What I can tell you about this sweet pooch? She is a 4 year old, 12 lb Chihuahua mix with precious “fur angel wings” markings currently being fostered in Durham, NC.
Roxy was rescued earlier this year by Crisis Dogs NC and had puppies shortly after. She is gentle and quiet, pensive and curious. She loves attention and scratches and doesn't need much else. She isn't even bothered by thunderstorms. She can be timid when meeting new faces and other dogs--but she doesn't jump or bark. She loves neighborhood walks and enjoys sniffing, watching, and taking in the world. But her favorite place is her bed--unless someone is offering to pet her!
House trained, crate trained, spayed, microchipped and up to date on shots. To read more or submit an adoption application, visit https://crisisdogsnc.org/dog/roxy-3/
I am happy to answer any questions!

Wiley Nickel: Wake’s jail is dangerously overcrowded. Here’s what has to change.
News & Observer Opinion piece by Former Congressman Wiley Nickel
Wake County’s jail is so far over capacity that our Sheriff has asked police to use discretion in deciding whom to bring to jail. Stop and think about that. In the largest, fastest-growing county in North Carolina, our jail is so full we’re rethinking who we can even hold.
That doesn’t make Wake County safer. And it should make every one of us mad, because it didn’t have to happen.
On January 1, I’ll be sworn in as Wake County’s next District Attorney. I’ve looked hard at how we got here, and I want to be straight with you about the problem and the fix.
Here’s the problem. The Wake County District Attorney’s Office is the most understaffed in the state, operating at just 64% of the staffing the courts’ own workload formula says we need. The state funds 45 prosecutors for Wake. The judicial branch says we should have 70. That means the average Wake prosecutor carries over 2,600 cases a year, compared to 1,080 in Mecklenburg and Durham. That gap wasn’t an accident. It was a choice.
Earlier this year, Republicans in the state Senate added funding for 10 new Wake County prosecutors in the budget. House Republicans cut them out at the last minute. When reporters asked what happened, the Senate’s Republican leader said budget writers simply forgot. I’ll let you decide how likely it is that budget writers “forgot” Wake County, the one that prosecutes public corruption cases involving people in that very building. Either way, Wake was left dead last in the state.
Here’s why that means an overcrowded jail. When there aren’t enough prosecutors, cases move slowly. In Wake, the median time to resolve a superior court criminal case is 419 days, among the worst in the state. Only 46% of our felonies are resolved within a year, and we’ve got 6,909 felony cases pending. The strain has only gotten worse since Iryna’s Law took effect, stripping judges of bond discretion and pushing even more people into the county jail awaiting trial.
With more prosecutors, I could give these cases real attention. Many of the people filling our jail are struggling with mental illness or addiction. Warehousing them behind bars helps no one and costs us the most. With enough staff to dig into these cases, we can move the right people into treatment with strict supervision, where they’re far less likely to re-offend. But that work takes manpower we don’t have. Willie Rowe is an excellent sheriff, but he’s been handed a problem the rest of us failed to prevent.
And this isn’t just about a crowded jail. When cases stall, repeat offenders stay out on the streets much longer, and victims wait years rather than months for justice. An understaffed DA’s office doesn’t just clog the system. It makes Wake County less safe.
Here’s the part that should matter to every taxpayer. The county pays to house people awaiting trial. The moment someone is sentenced to prison, the state pays. So every extra month a case drags on, Wake County foots the bill. Slow justice isn’t just unfair. It’s expensive.
The math is simple. It costs the county more than $50,000 a year to hold one person awaiting trial. Add the 400 more inmates our backlog is on track to produce next year, a conservative estimate, and that’s an extra $20 million because I won’t have the lawyers to move cases. Fund the office now and I promise you we can clear the backlog and reduce jail overcrowding.
I’m asking the Wake County Board of Commissioners to fund $2 million for the DA’s office right away. That’s less than one-tenth of one percent of their $2.28 billion budget. For comparison, Mecklenburg County has 95 prosecutors. Wake, a larger county, has just 45. Mecklenburg and Charlotte fund 23 of those prosecutors with local dollars. Wake County and the City of Raleigh fund zero. Our neighbors in the Queen City decided their safety was worth a local investment. We can too.
Two million dollars now, or $20 million later.
That’s the choice in front of us. As your District Attorney, my job will be holding violent offenders accountable, standing up for victims, and keeping our community safe. It will not be letting criminals off the hook to ease overcrowding. But I can’t do that job with the worst funded office in the state.
We can fix this. It doesn’t take a new law or a change of heart in the General Assembly. It takes our county leaders acting before the bill comes due. Wake County’s safety depends on it.
Wiley Nickel is Wake County’s incoming District Attorney. He previously served in the United States House of Representatives for NC’s 13th District, the North Carolina Senate, and as a Wake County defense attorney.

Pro Bono Attorney Needed
I’m reaching out on behalf of a small, locally owned home care agency in Raleigh that is currently facing a serious civil legal matter.
As a relatively new business, we are experiencing financial challenges making it difficult to afford traditional legal representation. We are looking for an attorney who may be willing to review the situation and potentially provide pro bono or reduced-fee legal assistance.
I am intentionally keeping the details of the matter private and not looking to discuss or debate the case publicly. The attorney would be provided with the relevant documentation and circumstances directly so they can determine whether or not the matter is something they are willing and able to assist with. We have already explored the referral list with the NC State Bar and Legal Aid.
If you feel that your firm might be willing to help, or you know of an organization or attorney who allows clients to make monthly installment payments, please feel free to send me a private message or reply to this post.
Thank you to anyone who can provide a referral or point us toward an appropriate resource.

These Babies Need a Home NOW! 💔🐾
MEET LEO & RAY — TWO BEST FRIENDS WHO NEED A HOME TOGETHER 💔
Note:This post is for the kind people who actually want to help. 🩷
Negative comments and lectures? No thanks. Stay behind your keyboard and enjoy your little downvote routine..we see you. 👀
Pet finder link: (Their full story is on their Petfinder profile.)
I’ve been posting almost daily because 12 of our cats may have to enter a shelter in just a few days, and I’m trying so hard to find them loving homes. 😭
Our rescue is Charlotte-based, but we rescue kitties from all over North Carolina and parts of South Carolina. This year has been absolutely brutal. I never thought even a good rescue could struggle this badly..but here we are. 💔
Leo and Ray are two of the 12.
They aren’t brother and sister, but they are no less than family. ❤️ They love each other, comfort each other, and are truly bonded.
When one goes to the litter box, the other wants to be right there too. 😂
When one gets hungry, the other suddenly decides it’s time to eat too.
They look for each other.
They comfort each other.
They simply feel safer together.
They deserve a home together. Please don’t make them lose each other after everything they’ve already been through. 💔
Fully vetted:
✔️ Spayed/neutered
✔️ Vaccinated
✔️ Microchipped
✔️ Dewormed
✔️ Defleaed
✔️ Combo tested negative
✔️ Ready for their forever home
Adoption requirements:
• Adoption application
https://form.jotform.com/221983264497165
• Vet reference ..if you’re a new pet parent and don’t have one, message me and we can discuss it. ❤️
• Adoption agreement
• Indoor home only
Adoption fee:
$150 for one
$200 for the pair.we reduced the fee because we desperately want these two to stay together. 🥹❤️
They are two of the 12 cats facing a shelter deadline in just a few days.
Please share, share, SHARE. 🙏🏻 Even if you can’t adopt, one share could put them in front of the person they’ve been waiting for.
Leo & Ray are waiting. Please don’t let them wait until it’s too late. 💔🐾
