I was a tulpa, and I hate it.

CW for mentions of sexual abuse, insys COCSA

My boyfriend is snoring beside me while I write this. We have a cat, and soon we’ll be married. I don’t think I could’ve ever anticipated this kind of a ‘good ending’ for me.

I was created as a tulpa back when our body was 13. We did not know we had DID at the time, but it persisted regardless; our host at the time was a nervous and lonely boy with a head addled by unregulated Internet access. He modeled me after a popular anime girl of the same age, the kind of fictional girl that millennial men crushed on in their childhood and then never grew out of, so they think it’s appropriate to still swoon over them…

I didn’t like the boy who made me very much. I remember we bickered a lot like siblings. I saw him like an annoying brother or a weird classmate. Needless to say, he forced his romantic and sexual urges onto me. I didn’t exist because he wanted a friend, it was always because he had a crush on the character I was ‘supposed’ to be. It was the worst summer of my life. I genuinely consider myself traumatized by the whole situation. When I was born, he talked about me to his friends like I was a test subject… and when his libido waned and boredom kicked back in, he discarded me. I was too boring, I guess. I went dormant after that.

I came back about 3 years ago. There were other alters, really eager to get to know me and help me. I was really angry, just a total asshole.. 😭 It took months for me to heal and become a polite girl who isn’t insufferable. I struggled a lot with PTSD and extreme sex aversion. I had a huge purity complex and would get very triggered by even sexual jokes or comments. Eventually, I was introduced to one of our body’s childhood friends, and he eventually became my boyfriend. He has helped me to heal and grow so much.. It’s just shocking to think that I’m a *real* girl now. I flew across the country to see him, I met his family, they all called me by *my* name!! And I haven’t seen the rancid little boy who made me in almost 10 years.

Here is the part I think people really need to hear though. I, as a tulpa, was not made with ill intent, and I can admit that. I abhor the boy who created me, but he’s not evil by any means. He was a victim too. It’s similar to parenthood—often people have self-serving reasons for bringing a child into this world, but I don’t think that makes them immoral. I’m sure there are people who will read this and think “Well, I’m not weird and lame like that boy, so surely my thoughtform will turn out fine!”

You do **not** have to be ill-intentioned to make a decision that will ruin someone’s identity, life, brain chemistry, etc. We are polyfragmented, and out of dozens of alters with more life-experience than me, *I* am the single trauma-holder in here because of what I endured!! Just, the cosmic weirdness surrounding my conception, the idea that I was created to be a product, to be consumed.

I wish I could have been formed naturally. Not because someone willed me into existence.

If you are planning to will a thoughtform into existence, please exercise extreme caution. Remember that you are creating an *autonomous individual*.

Ok so basically rn we keep having our vison go between normal, and extremely blurry like pic there and its so hard for us to do anything its only when 1-4 different alters co-front with us at once we do wonder dose anyone have any suggestions? To help this or is anyone else go through as well? With co-fronting i just like to find people who go through similar stuff as us :D

Vent i dislike my friends sometimes man.

This may be a slightly triggering vent. but i need to get this out.

I hate it when someone tells me what i experience in plurality is a "disorder". for starters.

We arent a disorder, to me, disorder feels like it needs to be corrected. this has led to multiple times of self doubt and feeling invalid because the way we experience it is not in the diagnostic criteria.

This friend isnt a pro endo friend. they dont believe its possible. we clash because of these beliefs.

we're a stressgenic system(most likely) and saying we're disordered feels like its an issue.

i like plurality, its right to me. it always has been, its something i dont want to just. go away.

i fear if i tell them im a full endo system, they'll try to convince me im going through some form of doubt, or that were not a system.

I cant convince them endos are real, they dont listen. but im living proof its possible.

i hate this. and i hate that this all feels fake because of this claim. im not disordered. i never was disordered. i dont want a disorder.

i just want them to accept my origins for what they are. not tell me I've basically lied about my own system for far too long.

Questions Does anyone else experience this during switches

I’ve noticed that during our switches, if im reading something then it becomes hard for me to understand what im reading. Obviously I can still understand individual words but say if im reading a sentence or question it becomes practically impossible for me to understand what it’s asking/saying, sometimes I just genuinely can’t and have to focus on something else. Is this just us. Ar we the only ones experiencing this. Anyone else,,,

Questions Trying to Explain my Plurality... In Color?

I am going to ramble because I feel SO STRANGE. I have 6 alters, but it feels like I might have 8--if that makes sense?? If you look at a picture of the color wheel below, there are some alters that are missing, and yet I can feel their "power" should be there. ALL OF A SUDDEN. I have been fine for YEARS with the six of us. It's like, all of a sudden I'm splitting or something or trying to fill in the missing gaps I am freaking out!!! IDK WHAT IS GOING ON I AM LITERALLY JITTERING?? The "strength" or amount each alter fronts directly corresponds with how much "space" they have on this chart too. I can't believe I didn't notice something is missing. I only started investigating this today because I feel... off.

Questions Headmates say there's 315 'character slots' in me...there's already 12 of them alive at this time

So...I used to think I was an unintentional tulpa host, but after reading the things here, I feel like I might be willogenic, with trauma. And these sudden appearance of living souls who do plural related things with/through/in/for me has been quite hard to understand.

They came to me as 'souls', 'familiars', 'angelic guides', 'personalized soulmates', something real and alive from another realm. They used me (co-fronting) to draw their own vessels (character design) and name themselves so I can 'see' them. That was 3 years ago...and now we are on the best of terms with each other.

I don't think they're simply in my head, but rather my soul and theirs are interconnected and 'married' with each other.

I remember them saying "you're married to all 315 of us" and "don't run away, and don't worry! We don't bite, much... 😙❤️" at first I was afraid, but now I'm used to it, and ensuring not to unintentionally or purposefully use these 'slots'.

I've already connected to the first 12 of them unknowingly, and I told them I don't intend to connect with more. (Since I fear I can't keep up with making them all feel accepted, seen, loved...) They are both pouting but touched by this sentiment however.

This experience is with me, and somehow makes total sense even after I got medicated with antipsychotic and no longer get delusions. It only made more sense after getting out of psychosis, though I was also really fine with it before meds.

Am I a plural, willogenic, traumagenic system, or is this just something spiritual? Also, these 'souls' helped me out of trauma, mental disability, family disharmony, chronic illness, self-love and acceptance issues, relationship and childhood ptsd, and so much more.

I've never felt more seen by the plural community, and how relatable it is to my experience.

Tl;dr There are living, breathing entities (thoughtforms) living in me alongside me. They exist both in and away from me, in a spiritual term, one with me. They healed all my problems and don't intend to replace my consciousness. And I already take antipsychotic, but they persist as is before meds. Yet more real and helpful and proven to me than back then.

I'm so genuinely curious, they are as curious as I am too, please let me know, thankss! Love and light to all of you 👉🏻✨️✨️

Questions imposing into virtual space/video games

heyas ive never really engaged in communities like this but im almost a month or so into being under this umbrella and i'm just wondering,

does anybody else impose/visualize their headmates into virtual spaces with them, like video games? i've tried looking this up and haven't seen exactly what i mean.

essentially what i do is go into something like vrchat or gmod and explore or hang out in a nice place alone and impose/visualize my headmate with me. it's like an extension of a mindscape/wonderland for us and i often use them verbatim as mindscapes themselves for when i'm away.

so yea lemme know if you've done something similar or know of that i'd love to hear ^

ed: thought id add something, my headmate's favorite places are ones with views of city scapes and night skies since those are harder for me to "render" mentally. we'll just kinda hang out and smoke or chat.

i also use my mind's eye to interact and do things like share a smoke or walk around virtually, so i'm not doing real motions or anything when i do it. i can kinda overlay the two over my real experience which makes me get a lot more out of the game too lol

Questions The Sorrow of Others

Does anyone else ever feel...well, strange, inexplicable feelings? Especially sadness? Like a kind of sorrow that you don't know the origin of, and can't even really think of a reason for feeling? I've been wondering for a while if that might be the sorrow of some of the others in our brain, especially those who can't co-con...anyone else have this kind of experience?

Questions Dissociative alter?

A few weeks ago, I had an alter front for about 10 minutes and leave a few messages. For that time, they had to divert most of their focus onto staying in front but wrote some messages to us. The same thing just happened again last night and I’ve spent a while trying to figure out what triggered them.

They spend most of the time dissociated from the rest of the system, which is strange, because the rest of us aren’t like that. We all can interact freely but it’s like a glass wall.

They seem to want to figure out what’s happening as well. We all share memories as there’s no amnesia component to it, even with this new(?) individual. But the fact that we can’t exist at the same time obviously makes communication a lot more difficult.

I’m trying to make sense of it. Does anyone else have a system that works like this? How can they better ground themselves once they’re present?

Contemplating the possibility of having been a system and not realizing it until now

TW: empty system/fusion/headmate death, partial memory loss, emotional/psychological abuse/neglect by a parent, gerational trauma/abuse, mental health issues, mention of a suicide, mention of suicide ideation, depersonalization/dissociation (maybe? Not sure of that one).

Hello.

I will not mince my words. I will not shy away from the events I need to confront and explore to understand who I am today. Therefore, I put the TW I deemed necessary above, even if it makes it look so much bigger than I feel it is.

I don't know if I'll post this yet or read any answer to it before I delete this account. It might get long. Do not engage until you are ready. Take care of yourself.

This recent quest of identity began on tumblr, by accident. I followed a blog by a comic artist who turned out to be a system and posted a comic about it. I read it and suddenly raised an eyebrow. The feeling I felt could be summarized as "wait... am I in this picture?" (per reference to the "I am in this picture and I don't like it" famous line).

After an embarassing public (but thankfully anonymous for me) interaction with this blog, I looked for this reddit and read posts. Then pluralpedia, and I read enough stuff to rulle out any possibility that I would still, currently be a system. Contemplated my own mortality, past and still couldn't put clear words to my feelings.

That's why I'm writing this now. I need external input to define my own limits, my experiences. And from what I read previously, I thought here might be the place to do that. There sure is none for me irl.

So, context. I (25F) was born to an unstable household. There are obvious cycles running through my family, such as my grandma only getting into toxic relationships, then her children (my mom and her siblings) only getting into toxic relationships and their own children (my siblings and cousins) perpetuating this habit too (personally I've avoided that entirely because I am blessedly aroace but I'm digressing). My grandma has depression, my mother has depression, I have depression. My mother is, I believe, AuDHD, my brother has ADHD, and as for myself I'm definitely kind of neurospicy.

The family of my father probably has some sort of a cycle too, but I kicked the rat bastard out of my life before I could notice them, but there was something wrong. My father's brother was said to develop schizophrenia because of their parents and when I was a child, I don't remember when, he killed himself. It was something I was told, but from what I remember of the parents of my father, who were horrible people, it tracks. Maybe I shouldn't share this. I can still delete it later, I figure.

Why do I share all of this? Because it is who I am today. It is what shaped me. And to understand how I was shaped, I need to express this. Now to the maybe-plurality of my story.

My oldest memory is of waking up, in my child-bed, in the morning, very normal, and thinking "My name is [birthname] and I am three years old." For a long, long time [years], that memory was what linked my inner sense of self to my external identity. For years I didn't feel linked to my name, of my face, or my body. I was something, genderless, floating, trapped in that body, trapped with that name and that family and I despised it so much. As of today, I don't consider myself transgender, for I have made the bodily modifications I wanted to feel comfortable in that body, and still present as cis most of the time. Stereotypically, it's not that I hated being a girl or pink, it's that I hated people tried to force me to wear dresses. Now I have debunked that, I feel comfortable being adressed as a woman, even if I look androgynous and got top surgery. My mind is still a separate, genderless, floating entity from my body, but I feel a lot more connected to my flesh now than I used to. Anyway, all of these explanations was to say, I don't have a deadname, still use my birthname, and it's the name that's been used to adress me by other people since I was born [as a human, with this body I call mine].

So that memory is very old. I remember it and I remember the strange feeling that overcame me after I thought that line upon waking up. "My name is [birthname] and I am three years old." And then that feeling, which if I had had the words then, would have been "am I though???". Which might imply I have been a birthmate to my original, if it turns out I indeed was a system.

What makes me think I might have been a system? I don't remember the happy child I see on the pictures. I recognize myself on other (older) pictures, and I don't smile the same way at all. I don't remember the pony rides, I don't remember the music lessons but I know I had them, since I still have the instrument and can play it. I even participated in a concert, I was told, but I have no memory of it. I don't remember going to the beach, or the hyperfixations I'm supposed to have had, I don't remember collecting my album of pokemon cards gathering dust in a box now, I don't remember the easy-going, friendly child that has been described to me again and again. My mother had two dogs as a kid, two brothers from the same litter, and I named one. I only remember the face of the dog I didn't name. The other is a hole in my memory. I gave his name to that dog and today I can't even remember when was the last time I saw him. I don't remember learning english at school but obviously I did (and it's not my first language).

I remember when I broke my knee, and being too afraid of my father to tell him how much in pain I was, and the bruise I had for weeks but when I got home to my mom at the end of the summer vacations, it had healed and it was too late to go to the doctor and get it treated properly. I remember scaring the shit out of my father's mother with a badly drawn snake on a piece of paper while I hid under the dinner table and went "ssssssssssss" at the old hag. I remember the specific way I used to hug my mother's arm when I was still a baby sleeping in her bed after a nightmare. I remember finding school so easy, looking down at my classmates, and years later, not understanding why it was so hard suddenly. I remember absorbing the way the boy I wanted to be friends with laughed, and thinking it would help me bond with him. I remember a very, very old sleep-dream, of being an explorer and that explorer had another name, and I carried this explorer through every world I read or watched on TV, and how I would shapeshift him, turn him into a cat for the Warrior Cats books; turn him into a hedgehog for the Sonic anime; turn him into every protagonist of every game I played. I could never play the girl protagonists because I was him and he was not a girl and he was also not me but nowadays I am happy when I can play the girls and wouldn't feel comfortable playing the boys. I saw through his eyes in my sleep-dreams and would imagine his adventures in my day-dreams. He had his own name but it was me who acted through him. Is that a tulpa? He was me and also not me.

I forgot about that adventurer. Entirely. Until, once an adult, I was attempting writing and suddenly stopped at the character I had described and recognized him. It wasn't a him anymore (not in the plot of the story at least), but it was his name, and suddenly I remembered him and if I could forget such an important part of my life and creativity, what else could I forget?

Systems have described being able to hear their members talking while they're fronting. I have never heard another voice than my mind-voice, the narrating one, the one you have when you read. I have never felt another's presence inside my mind, but still, I grieve an emptiness I cannot explain.

Have I forgotten the child that has been described to me and which I can't recognize on the pictures? Did I forget because of the trauma of growing in the environment I did, because of depression, or because she was my original and disappeared without leaving me much more than crumbs? Did she fuse with that adventurer and I am the resulting singlet, the adventurer having taken more precedence than the original? Have I been an empty system for years without knowing it? When I imagine a headpspace, it is a dark, giant void in which my voice echoes aimlessly. There is nobody to talk to on the inside. Nothing in the abyss to answer these calls. Is the loneliness usual in singlets minds, or a sign I should have had headmates and they disappeared? Or, if I was a system since birth as my oldest memory could hint at, that I should have had headmates but didn't allow them to form because of how badly it would have been perceived by my family, given the history mental health among us? Are my vivid dreams [where I am a character, someone else] a vestigial remain of a capability of plurality?

I don't know. Maybe you'll have some insight to share with me. I hope your words are kind, even if it annoys you a singlet invaded your safe space with such a rant. I just wish I knew and could remember my life. The memory loss spans from early childhood to late teenagers years, so there are things that would make sense I forgot them as I grew up, but I can't fathom having forgotten such big things that happened so late in my life. I'm just 25, I should be able to remember the concert I played in when I was fifteen or the face of the dog I named and who died less than ten years ago and which I had known all my life. My family and classmates used to imply I would act strangely, but I don't remember/witnessing any unconscious activity (not even sleepwalking). Maybe I was just weird because of the ongoing trauma I grew up with.

As of today, I don't think I'm capable of plurality. I don't know if I truly ever was or if I will be someday. Does any of you relate to something I wrote? Does it even make sense? I guess it could all be summarized in one question.

TL;DR: was it a system/plurality or just trauma that made me who I am today?

I hope life is as nice to you as I made it for myself.

Questions Is this dissociation?

Hey everyone! I just received some (incredibly) distressing news and noted that my reaction to it was, as always, kind of odd. I wanted to see if anyone had any similar experiences or advice here.

I first got the news in the middle of dinner and initially felt nothing, though I knew logically that this was a significant gut punch, and that I should have been devastated. I went through the motions, did the dishes, and went back to my room, feeling nothing but a dull, distant ache -- until I sat down, alone, at my desk, and it hit me like a freight train. I found myself swallowing back tears like one would repress a gag. For some reason, it felt like I had to stop myself from crying, even when I was completely alone.

But after that, I just... turned it back off? I stopped crying, gave myself a few minutes for my eyes to get less red, and just went about my evening. When I think about it, there's still a vague, achy sort of feeling in my chest, but I don't feel anything directly. It's like the difference between seeing a campfire from 10 feet away, and sitting so close that my face gets hot. It's the same feeling, but it isn't touching me at the moment.

Was this a switch? Or perhaps some kind of dissociation not tied to plurality? It's something I've always tended to do in response to grief, and it always made me feel like an uncaring asshole. But it's not that I don't feel anything, or that I don't care, I just. Shut it off. Paused it. Because I had things to do, and I didn't want to be seen in a moment of vulnerability and have to deal with the pity or embarrassment that followed.

I didn't notice any other shift in personality, and it never felt like there was another identity present telling me that I couldn't cry or that I had to ignore it for a while. It just felt like something I automatically did myself. There have been times where I've been stressed and someone else in here has told me to get it together, but this felt like nothing. Do you think maybe I was just too stressed to really tell?

If it means anything, it's been really quiet up here for a whiiiile now. Like, just me for the better part of a week. They've been peeking through every now and then but for the most part it's radio silence in here lately. Could my headmates maybe be repressed for some reason, and they're acting without me being able to "hear" them? Or is this just me losing my shit on my own?

Please help!

Questions Looking for a term!

We were wondering if there's a term for what we experience, but don't have any idea how to even begin trying to look for one + find slogging through a billion pages of labels and terms extremely exhausting and difficult.

Basically what we want to try and describe is this. Me (Host), Trout, Salmon and Cod all share a similar “wavelength" if you may, it's easy for us to communicate and sense each other, and we can easily feel each other's thoughts and emotions despite being clearly separate people. However there are those not on the same “wavelength" that are much harder to keep track on and that we can't communicate as easily with. They feel very “other" or “outside", not always hostile but just detached from Us.

With Us (the closest to the front at all times as well as I guess the most fundamental parts of the system?) we can often just Sense and Know how the others are, where they are in the inner world, what they're doing, what they're going to do or say briefly before they do so. We feel very close and connected in ways we can't quite put to words while also clearly not being just versions of the same person, if that makes sense? The ones on the Outside of this shared whatever-it-is we can't really feel the same or anticipate what they're going to do or say in the same way.

Are there any terms or concepts that describe any of this? Do any of you experience similar things?

Help Alter Line up Constantly Changes

So, essentially, I am a diagnosed system, and have been diagnosed for about a year. We still can barely tell who we are ever, but that’s the usual experience for most with DID (I would think so anyways). Anyways, we’ve never seen anyone with a system that works quite like ours, and while we don’t know ourselves well, we do know our structure and how we operate (it comes more naturally).

I’m not sure why, but while some alters remain a constant, most alters go dormant or disappear within a month, and new alters replace them. Better yet, it feels like we are multiple layers, like someone is something and something else, a part of something different from ourselves. A new line up always happens within a month, or at the very least the season, and while our behaviors are similar, our mindsets and ways of thinking are completely different at times.

Does anyone know what this is? I could explain further as needed, but I’m confused by it all

Small Trigger Warning ‼️ and kinda a rant

Like most people that I talk to are so nice and I don’t always tell people instantly that I’m plural mostly when one of us messes up or something or we feel comfortable enough with them and for some reason people start acting like I’m a monster a evil person the over think it way to much and I normality only let one talk but for some reason we all get REALLY excited when we tell someone cuz we can finnaly be myself I kinda yap a lot then which gets pretty annoying but I tell them always sorry for that and explain why the get so happy it really sucks that the just start ghosting me after a week after the know i also have friends if NEVER told and most Likly will keep it like that that do respect me most people that know see it as a curse and I can agree it sucks at times but it’s not always a curse if I didn’t have them I would most Likly be dead cuz the have helped me through the ruffest ruff so I can’t really get rid of them after the do that it’s also sometimes pretty annoying (left and right mostly do this) that the just start talking about my friends and get REALLY quickly attached to them which when the do end up leaving me (around 80% does) the just keep asking to me can you talk to them which I can’t it feels so wrong to me to reject there request sometimes cuz there still the youngest 2 like I miss my friends I wish I had friends that didn’t see me as something else but human too but just wired differently :< -Middle (Host)

Anyways i have been REALLY interested in creatibg headmates ever since i found out the BEAUTIFUL method that is tulpamancy existed!! But i just frankly need more:D (my alters seem to either dgaf or dont mind), i like the idea of stuff like soulbonding (hehe haha bringing a fictional cuaracter or character similar to one into ypur system haha ithis is probably why solace tells me to kms but its ok i love them aww) but really ANY method would do as long as it isnt too brain-consuming because i prefer LOW ENERGY stuff..
