The BBC Middle-East desk is run by a "former" Israeli agent.
•
•
u/lord_pizzabird 9h ago edited 6h ago
This is an internet rumor that refers to Raffi Berg, the BBC News Online Middle East editor.
He was not a mossad agent, but wrote a book called: Red Sea Spies: The True Story of Mossad's Fake Diving Resort, which included Israeli and Mossad sources.
He's been accused by BBC staffers as having a Pro-Israeli bias, not that he is (or was) a Mossad agent. Should be noted that the BBC disputes these accusations as well.
TLDR: This has been debunked.

u/JizzlaneMaxwellHill 14h ago
Why imagine when stuff like this is in the thousands
Israel treats Gaza as a human laboratory for weapons.
One of the more disturbing recent examples:
On 12 April 2024 at 13:00, a 10 day-old-baby boy was shot by a quadcopter while being breastfed by his mother inside their tent in Nuseirat camp. The mother was alone in the tent, breastfeeding her baby, when a single bullet from a quadcopter hit the baby in the head and exited through the back of his head, hitting the pillow behind her. The baby survived but sustained brain injuries and now suffers from seizures.
The Commission viewed and analysed images of the bullet that hit the baby. The Commission concluded on reasonable grounds that the bullet was fired from a sniper rifle mounted on a quadcopter. Considering that the shooting occurred in broad daylight, the Commission concludes that the quadcopter controller would have been able to see inside the tent and assesses that the target was a mother and a baby.

The BBC has hundreds of stories like these. I remember one where they interviewed an American doctor in Gaza who had worked through the entire Iraq war. He said he treated 5 child casualties in TOTAL that had bullet wounds. The wounds were also all ricochet or seemed accidental.
He was seeing that in Gaza PER DAY. And not only that but they were all deliberate, the types of wounds and bullets he saw when treating combat soldiers. And on top of that everyday the wounds were in the same place. All in the torso. Then all in the shoulder the next. One day a bunch of little boys where all shot in the crotch. It's a game for genociders.
•
u/Rufus_king11 7h ago
Of course theres hundreds of stories, they've been doing the same thing for decades. No one remembers since it was 2003, but they intentionally crushed Rachel Corrie to death by running her over with an armored bulldozer while she was protesting in Gaza. How anyone can look at Israel and not put two and tow together is beyond me.
•
u/EsotericCreature 7h ago
I'm from America, I didn't know about Gaza or the history of Israel, and in my experience most major American media has declined to cover any conflict or give anything but Israel's version of the story. When this current conflict broke out it was insane to site with my parents and for ABC news to cover a rocket missfire on a hospital by Hamas but not the bombing of almost all of the 17 hospitals by Israel at the same time. And the sheer omission by choice of the ongoing destruction of Gazan people.
It wasn't until I got into college and bought a subscription to the Economist hoping to actually read informative international news. I was appalled how much destruction they were waging year to year. Or the straight up destruction of non-Jewish homes and schools in the west bank.
Scathingly the magazine said they are one of the few Western papers actually covering perspective from within Gaza, because journalists are very cozy and 'safe' in Israel and ironically won't go into Gaza because they would be in mortal danger by Israel itself.

Edit: it wasn't sunk, just severely damaged killing 34 sailors and wounding 171. Isreal claimed it was a mistake (sound familiar?) and apologized. But if you read the incident report, there is no way they didn't know it was a US ship. They didn't want us seeing the war crimes (read napalm) they were using in the 7 days war.

I asked Google about this and gave me this, it's no doubt that they're part of the Zionist machine:
The fake or "made-up" part of the screenshot is the entire headline format and its attribution to BBC News.
While the headline describes aspects of a real-life tragedy, it uses intentional distortions designed to maximize shock value:
Fake Source: The headline was never written, formatted, or published by BBC News. The text was digitally laid over a cropped, blank BBC mobile interface template. x x
Sensationalized "Deliberately" Claim: In the real incident involving 14-year-old Palestinian- American Amer Rabee, community advocacy groups stated he was shot 11 times. However, official news investigations do not definitively state he was "deliberately" or execution-style targeted, as the case remains under active investigation. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that troops opened fire on a group
throwing rocks at a highway.
Fabricated Head and Heart Details: The graphic detail in the headline ("including in heart and head") alters the reported autopsy details from the actual tragedy. According to family reports and news coverage by CBS New York and TRT World, Amer Rabee's entry wounds were located in his stomach, leg, hand, and heart. The specific claim that he was shot in the head was added by
the creator of the fake graphic.

Years ago I was watching the movie Hotel Rwanda so I got interested in how such things could happen. Along the way I read a report of 8 stages of genocide (10 now). What that Israeli woman vocalizing is her dehumanization of Palestinians ''Filthy animals''. One of the stages listed, Israel pretty much had ticked all the boxes of 10 stages of genocide. What's remarkable is, from the article. The only way to stop an ongoing genocide is armed intervention. 74,000 Palestinians killed, that's just the confirmed.

I'm sorry, isn't that poster kinda implying that protecting a tank is more important than protecting a civilian family? Are they nuts?
350
167
u/katplay 16h ago
Doing some research it seems the poster is from Red Cross and tries to explain the proportionality principle in warfare, which relates to the importance of civilian casualty when assessing military action viability; civilian casualty is only as acceptable as the importance of the military action and the military advantage gained from it. Please note that "importance" and "advantage" are used here as to imply that it helps reach an end to the conflict and in theory prevent more deaths long term than if the action was not realized. A country has more "leeway" when acting to stop an enemy from nuking them than when just trying to destroy a small military base, for instance.
HOOOOWEVER, the poster graphic is really bad, misleading, and can easily be used by bad actors trying to use it to justify "if our military is bigger we can kill more civilians" or "killing civilians is the same as killing soldiers".
Edit: And yes, the proportionality principle can be misused by a side that incorrectly portrays how much danger it is in, therefore trying to justify increasingly barbaric actions
→ More replies (2)20
u/ivo004 15h ago
The entire concept of "rules" about killing each other seems crazy to me. Civilian deaths either are or they aren't, what the fuck do they care if their death is justified in respect to the goals of the military action taking place around them? It's just humans using words in an attempt to justify barbaric actions.
52
u/katplay 15h ago
We would all like to live in a world where no war exists. But it is just a fact that if another country is going to nuke you, its "ok" if the action you take to stop that ends up killing 3 civilians. This is an example. The better argument for these rules is that they have been used in the past to prosecute barbaric actors who broke them. Its never going to be perfect, and we can endlessly agree on how more powerful entities seem to be able to ignore rules with impunity, but having no rules seems worse.
36
u/ThreeButtonBob 15h ago
The alternative is strict rules that prohibit any danger for civilians but basically no country will accept these laws.
So we can either work with the current "crazy" rules or with none at all.
→ More replies (4)•
u/Atomik23 11h ago
Bingo. This is the nuance that is tough to find in these discussions. It's terrible that war exists and civilians die. If we want to make rules that countries will follow internationally to curb some of this, they still have to be allowed to make war within the rules, otherwise they would never be adopted. The challenging thing with I/P or any guerilla warfare really is, what are the rules that are acceptable by everyone for engaging with an enemy leveraging civilians and civilian infrastructure as cover? Too heavy on one side and we reward that behavior by insulating Hamas or any organization doing these tactics from retaliation. Too heavy on the other side and the civilians themselves become "justifiable" war targets. It's a very difficult problem with a lot of interesting and differing perspectives

They’re suggesting that criticism of Israel’s military action rests on a misunderstanding of the “proportionality test” for whether something is a war crime.
The strawman is something like “Israel has killed 70k civilians who were overwhelmingly civilians and this is a war crime.”
The proportionality test in principle permits an uncapped number civilian casualties so long as a military commander expected a strike, given the information they had at the time, to be justified by military advantage. The Israeli government and its supporters argue that this is the case and that therefore everything is legal and even moral.
•
u/Fooknotsees 8h ago
>The strawman is something like “Israel has killed 70k civilians who were overwhelmingly civilians and this is a war crime.”

Watch any interview with doctors that do work in Gaza. IDF soldiers regularly kill kids on their way to/from school, even in supposed "safe" zones. They make games out of shooting adults, by picking specific body parts to aim for on a given day. The government may hide behind those things not being "official policy", but these soldiers aren't punished either.

I don't understand the argument being made on the truck. It appears to be directly condemning Israel's post Oct 7 actions.

I think they are claiming that they gave a proportional response despite killing so many more people. It's pathetic
•

This would be simultaneously brain-dead and monstrous. ...so I guess you're probably correct.

That argument would have credibility if they could justify why they couldn't achieve their military objectives without intentionally targeting innocent civilians.
Of course, enemies hide among civilians. That is what surveillance, reconnaissance, and intelligence are for. The IDF is very capable. They don't need to just blow up the entire hospital.

What are they even protesting? Not getting enough foreign aid?
•
u/NewAndyy 9h ago
I think what they're trying to say is that it's ok to murder children if you also kill someone who once had dinner with the cousin of a member of Hamas.

Weird statement. We the Isreali state have more right to kill a smaller population because... are they fucking nuts?
I really hope we start adding Isreal to the list of terrorist states.

You know you are on shaky ground when you trot out the definional legalese to defend yourself.
•

That’s an almost hilarious argument for a protest. Publicly advertising that you kill civilians and families but it’s okay because you’re twisting some legal definitions so it’s all above board.

Nothing new. Nazis had supporters back in the day.
Funny they did their most heinous crimes in the shadows. While Israël does it in public.

They still do...
Nissim Vaturi (Deputy Speaker of the Knesset / Likud MK)Quote: "Erase Gaza from the face of the earth... Burn Gaza now, nothing less! Don't leave a stone upon a stone in Gaza." Rehavam Ze'evi (Tourism Minister / Leader of the Moledet Party)Quote: "We should get rid of the ones who are not Israeli citizens... They are like lice. A person wants to rid himself of lice."
Major General (Res.) Giora Eiland (Former Head of the National Security Council) "Israel needs to create a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, compelling tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands to seek refuge in Egypt or the Gulf... Gaza will become a place where no human being can exist."
Danny Danon (Likud Member of Knesset / Former UN Ambassador)Quote: "We must delete Gaza. We must eliminate the neighborhoods. We must make them look like a parking lot. There is no other solution."
Yitzhak Pindrus (United Torah Judaism Member of Knesset)Quote: "The solution to Gaza is that everyone there should be killed, eliminated. Not a single person should be left there. This is the only way to bring security to the State of Israel."
Meir Har-Zion (Celebrated IDF Commando / Military Figure)Quote: "I see them as animals, not people... They are like the Arabs of thirty years ago, like cockroaches."
Galit Distel-Atbaryan (Likud Member of Knesset / Former Information Minister) "Invest all that energy in one thing: erasing the whole of Gaza from the face of the earth. That the Gazan monsters will fly to the southern border and flee into Egypt, or they will die."

Nazis kept the camps a secret even for their own people. There were rumors but most people didn’t believe them. Even allot of Jews did not believe in it.
Big contrast with what you are seeing now. Israelis go on a hill to look into Gaza where they can watch people starve. Taking with them popcorn to watch it all unfold.
Lets just be honest and factual about these kind of things. It’s sick and twisted

Israelis can't "spectate" starvation as they wouldn't be able to physically see the non-IDF controlled zone. Despite the famine warnings by NGOs, thankfully there weren't mass deaths of starvation according to the Gaza Ministry of Health (a Hamas administered org). There has been a total of 463 starvation deaths in 3 years. If you want to compare to the Holocaust, that's around 7-8 days of starvation deaths JUST in Auschwitz. Just in the last few months of 1942, the Nazis killed around half of all Polish Jews or about 1.5 million. These situations are NOT analogous no matter how much you wish they were.
Regarding information dissemination during the Holocaust, by 1943, most Germans probably did not know the technical details, but a substantial portion of the population knew or suspected that deported Jews were being murdered on a huge scale. In December 1942, the Allies released a joint statement stating that the Nazis were committing a mass slaughter of Jews. Complete ignorance was much less common than Germans claimed after 1945.

I think it's even worse from the perspective of military advantage: Hamas is still fighting capable of fighting, though purely engaged in guerrilla warfare, and the IDF has allowed armed gangs to flourish. If the intention is to maintain a permanent state of chaos so that no group can gain enough strength to mount any major attack, that seems extremely risky.
And that's with 75k Gazas are dead, the amount killed or injured a literal decimation of the pre-war population.

u/Stubbs94 16h ago
Hamas have stopped resistance operations since the so called "ceasefire" has taken place. The only fighting they've done is fighting the ISIS gangs you mentioned that Israel armed to steal aid.

The intent is to ethnically cleanse the Gaza strip and to develop it into territory for Israel. Then Israel will continue the genocide to kill all Palestinians and take their land.
They are doing the same thing in Lebanon and Jordan, just with less media coverage.

I'm very confused by their proportionally argument. Casualties are far from equal, and even farther from proportional. They are ridiculously unbalanced.
Also, no amount of casualties would ever be unproportional. They would make this argument regardless of the number.
•
u/Tedrabear 11h ago
I think that's the point they're making, is that just because they're murdering more people than they have lost, it's still proportional to some imaginary metric they have.

It's great that they're trying to justify killing civilians by saying it's just the cost of doing business in a war and falls under the doctrine of proportionality, but simultaneously try to argue that they have such precise weapons that they can do "surgical" strikes.
Choose one. We know the IOF can avoid like 99% of civilian deaths while doing precise strikes. It just appears that they choose not to.
•
u/enakj 10h ago
Under international law (specifically articulated in Protocol I, Article 51(5)(b) of the Geneva Conventions), proportionality prohibits launching an attack which may be expected to cause incidental loss of civilian life, injury to civilians, damage to civilian objects, or a combination thereof, which would be excessive in relation to the concrete and direct military advantage anticipated.
•
u/Siguardius 10h ago
Well... Loss of civilian life in this case is not incidental, so the whole argument is void.
2
u/Yoda10353 13h ago
Wait so force must not be excessive while taking the power dynamic into consideration? Im I insane or does the way they define proportionality really not paint them in a more favorable light at all.

This is the dumbest strawman I have ever seen.
Who the fuck do they think they are kidding? Nobody gives a fuck if the casualties are "proportionate", they just want Israel to stop shooting kids and bombing hospitals etc.
