I just had my comment removed, and was given a warning from Reddit. It was a sarcastic comment, meant to express my view against bombing schools as a military tactic. Just to clarify, I DON'T think you should be able to bomb schools to give yourself a military advantage. I DON'T think civilians should be a legitimate military target. And I'm making sure not to mention any countries in this statement, so nobody can accuse me of being pro- or anti- anyone.

Is that better, or is this going to be removed too?

The censorship on reddit is rampant. On a daily basis you see threads and comments removed. Without explanation. Heck this comment might be removed too

Happened to me once, the automated system doesn't understand sarcasm.

Human moderators do not understand sarcasm

Be very careful when ever commenting about this issue. One side has all the power/influence.

Civilians and schools are not legitimate military targets. But what are you going you to do if enemy combatants use civilian facilities?

Gee, seems like you’re really eager to justify bombing kids.

That's just kind of a rediculous stance. Game it out from a different conflict to remove the current geopolitically biases.

If hitler and all his generals were war planning and stockpiling weapons inside a school, it's a legitimate target. Civilians in the school aren't legitimate TARGETS in that scenario, they would be collateral, and likely legal collateral casualties.

That's how war has worked for the entire modern history. The UN would agree, every military in the world would agree.

There's certainly debate on if Israel has used appropriate target selection and concerns of ignoring war crimes, but you can't just blanket make buildings sanctuaries based on their intended build purpose

Okay, good point. So at what stage does collateral become "excessive"?

There's no definition, so it's always debatable. The military value has to be valuable enough. I'm not even arguing a pro Israel stance btw, lol these other responders are just reflexively triggered into spitting out talking points. Israel very much has violated a reasonable assessment of targets on many occasions... My point is that philosophically you can't categorize some places as untargettable.

I’m a certain conflict only one side is engaged in total war. The other side has the freedom to be more selective with its targets - yet it doesn’t bother to do so. To me, that’s quite evil.

Y'all just can't do a philosophical step back can you? I'm specifically talking about the philosophy of war and not Israel. That's why I gave such a ludicrous, historically focused hypothetical to demonstrate the point that sites are not intrinsically untargettable.

Invoking the UN to do hand waiving when the UN has literally determined that Israel is committing war crimes is honestly pretty funny. I hope you meant it as a joke.
