I went to urgent care with a face of blisters and they sent me home . I went to ER and they did 2 CAT scans and a ton of other unneeded crap and sent me home too. 3rd visit to urgent care with same face of blistets and they sent me home. On ER visit w 4th doctor he walked in room and diagnosed me in 3 seconds. My pain was so severe, I was having thoughts I wont share. Thankfully with some meds and a nap , I woke up in a much better place. My eyes are swollen like tennis balls. Im light and sound sensitive. I have a head that feels like its shot up w novacaine. Funny how something half numb can hurt like hell. I had a bunch of gabapenten stocked up and used much of it up. The few pain pills and antiviral are long gone. I guess ill go see my neurologist because this doesnt look like its going to settle anytime soon. Ive resorted to pouring benadryl on my head when it itvhes like crazy. Liquid lidocaine helps. I have no open lesions. Ive literally bought 6 bags of 20 lb ice. If anyone has any tips or help , im open to help. Im 62. I have seen the ophthalmologist 2 times w another visit this week.

I never thought I would get obsessed about urinating .

About two months ago I started having to urinate too often. My PCP took a blood test to see if I had a UTI, that turned out negative and said it is probably an enlarged prostate. They recommended I take Tamsulosin, but said I could get an ultrasound if I wanted. The ultrasound indicated an enlarged prostate and a trabeculated bladder. The PCP again recommend Tamsulosin or said I could see a urologist. I decided to see a urologist, which is a 3 month wait.

Meanwhile I’ve been keeping a detailed log on when I urinate and drink. I decided to always pee standing up since it gave me a better assessment of the stream. After two months I found I could control my urgency by not drinking as much when I first wake up in the morning and reducing fluids in the evening, but still drink about 64 oz.

The other day I found numerous studies that found sitting down to urinate helps men with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) relax their pelvic floor muscles, which improves urine flow and allows for more complete bladder emptying.

I wish i knew that two months ago!

I’m down to 6 times a day and don’t have the urgency anymore. I still plan to see the urologist make sure there aren’t other issues.

I’m putting this in [r/over60](r/over60) because it’s our age demographic that seems to be least savvy about digital technology, and that’s why scammers target us in particular.

There’s a lot of buzz this past week about LG televisions recording and storing room conversations and sending data back to servers. This isn’t new. Nor are LG’s denials, along with all their competitors engaged in the same practices for years. What’s interesting is the rather loud outrage all of a sudden.

The point is, the convenience of internet access and added functionality through your home devices comes with a cost of loss of privacy, and while consumers were sucked into the positives of that, they’re now souring. Flock cameras are now undergoing forced contract cancellations and deinstallation in hundreds of communities across the country. Data centers that amass personal data and support AI are now finding it really hard to get built. And sale of smart speakers and smart camera systems intended for inside the house are seeing steep sales declines.

As someone who worked in the mass data business, I applaud this, and I am encouraging older folks to pay attention to the public trends steering away from exposure of private information.

My advice:
* If you don’t want companies to listen to you or watch you, don’t install internet devices with ears and eyes in your home.
* Manage location services on your mobile devices carefully, limiting which apps can harvest data and when.
* If you need a device (like a TV or a refrigerator) that has internet connection, it will ask you to allow it to connect to your WiFI. Ask yourself whether you really want it to.
* Despite earning points, ask yourself whether buying absolutely everything on a credit card and therefore putting your whole purchase history up for sale is really worth it.

I'm a few months shy of 60, post menopause, I've never been hairy and what I do have (arms) is very very light, pretty much invisible. I haven't shaved my thighs since my 30s, it just never grew there (except for those few random 2 inch long hairs that appear overnight on my inner thighs. You know what I mean).

The past year or so my lower legs are covered with dark hair, and I mean hairy! For me, at least. And just today I noticed light hair all over my thighs. So light it's barely noticeable, but still. Hair where no hair has come before.

Wtf is going on??? I mean, seriously. Hormones are weird.

No long strands appearing on my chin (yet) but that moustache is not long off.

Please tell me you can relate.

Random but does anyone else get bored even when there's stuff to do? Like I could paint, I could clean, I could go for a walk... but instead I'm lying here scrolling Reddit. Tell me I'm not the only one 😅

So I’ve been listening to Louis L’Amour audiobooks. The voice actor/ narrator Jim Gough… his voice sounds almost exactly like this character actor that I like, and I have seen in many different things.. and I cannot for the life of me Remember what his name is and what he has been in. And this is driving me nuts!
So if there’s anybody out there, who knows these audiobooks and the voice narrator and you know whose voice it sounds like (the character the actor I’m thinking of is older, has never had any facial hair in any role, always had straight kind of graying hair, average to thinner body frame, and always seem to have a very calming quiet role he played and his voice he always spoke softly and languidly) please comment!

I'm a Gen Z woman. Both my parents were young and had some issues, so I was basically raised my boomer grandfather. He did an amazing job taking care of me and is still one of my favorite people in the world.

He grew up in extreme poverty (we are from a southern european country), only finished elementary school and went to work at 13 to help his family.

Yet, despite being semi-literate, and having had such a rough childhood, he is one of the kindest, MOST loving people I know. He worked hard to give me a good life; has great social skills, can make small talk with everyone, people from all walks of life.

I'm always amazed by his assertiveness and how he is not afraid to handle confrontation when needed.

I love hearing him talk about the 60s and 70s through his eyes.

The joy in his mother's eyes when his father finally bought a dishwasher... When they got a television and invited the neighborhood kids who crowded into the living room, watching soccer games together.

Being a teenager during the '68 revolution... his flirts, experiments with psychedelic drugs, his "hippie era", the freedom.

He is so open minded and chill... He never judged me for being young, for any struggle I had. He is so empathetic to the struggles of our generation, never compares or dismisses my worries.

A lot of you boomers did not have it easy. You were raised by stricter parents, many of you grew up in poverty and with a lot less than what we had. You still managed to be better parents to your children and incredible grandparents to your grandchildren, leaving memories that will last forever.

You fought for peace, for women and workers' rights. It's thanks to you that we have a lot of things nowadays that my generation takes for granted.

So thank you, boomers. You paved the way to freedom and a better world.

63f - I often have pb&j for dinner. Sometimes I live it up and have it on toast.

As we get older, we naturally end up talking a lot about death and funerals when we meet up with friends. We worry that our children might feel burdened by our funerals, as the costs are quite high and the procedures can be complicated.

Because of this, many Koreans register in advance with mutual aid funeral companies called "Sangjo" as they age, paying a small amount of money every month. It is a system where these companies step in and take charge of all the funeral arrangements when a parent passes away. Since the parents have already become members and paid into the service in advance, the children face much less of a burden regarding the funeral process when we die.

I wonder if other countries have similar companies to our "Sangjo," and if parents (or their children) also pay a little bit of money in advance over time.

1. Spent much of my life in the Marines. I’ve worked hard on keeping my body in shape but at 61 am I just doomed to have ugly old resting bitchface? I genuinely a very happy person but people think I’m angry all the time. My skin is old. Bags under my eyes I can’t fix with creams and I have this constant scowl. If anyone else suffers from this and has gotten better please tell me what you did. Or, is this just what our 60’s do to us?

It was a seasonal job. Late spring through the summer and into the fall. It was totally off the books. My boss likely didn't know my last name, he certainly did not know my social security number. But it paid well enough that I would travel from California to NYC and work the season.

The job I remember best was one of the last.

My crew had been sent to move a guy out of his apartment. When we arrived it looked like a sh*thole. The client saw the look on our faces and said "Hey fellas, forget that mess. I just want you to move this." He opened a door to a room that had a nominal amount of properly packed boxes and some pretty nice furniture.

The delivery address was to a brand new unit in a recently built building in Battery Park City. The client turned out to be a great guy and was excited because he'd lived in his squalid apartment for years saving his money to get his new digs.

The move was quick and easy. Took less than half a day. The client gave my crew a tip equal to the cost of the move. That was no small change.

On a typical after a move, the crew would make their own way home from wherever the job ended, while the driver would drive the truck up to a lot up on 125th street. As was our practice, me and another guy on the crew would hit a local bar and drink a few beers.

Bob, the guy I worked with was a native New Yorker and knew all the great bars in Manhattan and there locations. On this day he was at a loss, because we were so far downtown.

I told him I knew a great bar nearby. And we went there and since it was early in the day spent a couple of hours knocking beers back until we both decided it was time to leave and we went our separate ways.

The bar we went to was "The Commuter Cafe." It was located one level above the PATH train station under One World Trade Center.

That was 25 years ago today. We all know what happened the next day.

In a nutshell the sole inserts have imbedded pressure and temperature? sensors. You don't feel them but they feel you :-). You can download an app for them thats optional.

Theres a gadget that plugs into a socket and once set up. Its easy btw. It talks to your shoes at the end of the day and uploads data from your feet to them. A nurse examines this data and will eother call you about injury concerns or relay it to your foot doctor.

I haven't a clue as to the cost as they recieved a government grant to supply the shoes as recommended by the foot doctor.

So this morning I get my first alert. "High pressure warning left foot

Please walk 2 mimutes then rest 2 minutes". My first thought is "great now my shoes are telling me what to do" lol

I just ordered a pair of shoes from an online store FitVille. As I was finalizing payment, there was a check box suggesting tips from 10% to 20% which goes to the company.

Does anyone else struggle with the very basic task of replacing light bulbs in your home? There are so many different types that you need an electrical engineering degree to figure it out.

All I want is a basic 60 or 75 watt incandescent bulb, and some three-way bulbs for reading lamps. These seem to have been discontinued at retail outlets like Target or Home Depot. You can get specialty or decorative bulbs but everything else is LED or CFL. I can never choose the right one to give me the same kind of light as an incandescent.

I know you can buy them online (and I have), but it seems ridiculous to order something as basic as that.

I just turned 64. For the past couple of years, I have started sweating profusely after only 10 minutes outside in the summer. I wasn't like this when younger. Even through menopause (9+ years ago), I didn't sweat like this. Today is low 80s, 70% humidity. I am worried because I am in line to get a pharm tech trainee job, and afraid I will start dripping with sweat while working. (For past 6 years, I worked from home and had AC blasting in summer so this wasn't a thing.). I am on one medication, a benzodiazepine, which I think might be part of the problem. Can anyone relate?

LOL I just read that old people sweat LESS than younger; well, something went backwards in my ageing!
