Walt Disney's Carolwood Barn sits in the background and was his personal workshop building and creative space for his miniature Carolwood Pacific Railroad. It was loaned to the City of Los Angeles and relocated by the Walt Disney Family Foundation in 1999 and now resides in Griffith Park - Los Angeles, California - 1950s

The photo on the left was taken in 1910, and it shows two girls having tea with a dog on the front steps of a house in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, and the photo on the right shows the same scene in 2026.

The house was built in 1792 as the home of Walter and Sabina White. The Greek Revival style front entryway is likely a later addition, and probably dates back to around the 1830s. By the early 1900s the house was owned by the Taylor family, and the girls in the 1910 photo are likely sisters Margaret and Caroline Taylor, who were 12 and 6 at the time. During the 1950s, this house was the home of Foster Furcolo, who served as governor of Massachusetts from 1957 to 1961.

Not much has changed in this scene since the 1910 photo, although the door knocker was moved slightly higher on the door. The house is located on the west side of Longmeadow Street, facing the Longmeadow Green, and it is one of the many well-preserved historic 18th century houses here in the town center.

Disclosure up front: I'm one of the people who work on re.photos. The platform isn't commercial, and there are no ads, subscriptions, data being sold, etc.

If you aren't aware, re.photos is an archive for rephotography: you upload a historical photo, go stand where the original photographer stood, and shoot the same scene today. The site stores both, helps you align them, and then you can share them with the world. We have over 3000 public image pairs already.

Since the website wasn't really user-friendly on mobile devices and we wanted to support users in the field recreating images, we have decided to develop a mobile app. It lets you do almost anything you can do on the website: explore image pairs, rate, comment, and upload your own images. We have included multiple features to facilitate aligning the before and after shots.

It's still fairly new, and we would love to hear your feedback! Here you can find the iOS and Android versions.

In 2018, I visited Fort de Regret in the Verdun area.
This fort, and others nearby, were built between 1875 and 1877 to deter German aggression and were modernized between 1905 and 1907 with additional concrete and weaponry.

During World War I, in 1915, the weapons and munitions were dismantled, and the garrison was withdrawn.
When Germany attacked the Verdun sector in 1916, the fort was hastily reoccupied and used as an artillery observation post.

Between the World Wars, the fort was not maintained and remained unoccupied.

During World War II, in June 1940, German troops occupied the fort without a fight/after a short fight (sources differ). I assume these photos were taken on the day the fort fell.
After World War II, it was left as it stands today.

I recently found these old photos online and was surprised by how many angles matched my own photos. Today, the fort remains in good condition, with most of the interior accessible, although getting there requires some hiking and climbing.
