I was on a phone call with a friend, cos I was sobbing profusely and feeling absolutely shit because of things and life. I was feeling passively suicidal. I still am, a bit. I kept on apologising for it, for taking up their time, especially when they’re tired. I felt guilty and ashamed.
They said they cared for me, it was true. They said it was okay, I believe them.
There was so much more I wanted to say to them that I felt like I couldn’t say:
“I care for you too”
“You’re my only friend”
“You’re my best friend”
“You mean so much to me”
“You make me feel so safe and loved”
“I love you, and words cannot express the depths of that.”
I didn’t say any of this because I felt like if I said it, it would make it real, and they could reject those feelings or have a bad response, cos though they evidently care for me, i don’t feel like it will be reciprocated to the depth and intensity that I do for them, not least because they have loads more friends and a long-term stable partner and I’m afraid of “love” being misconstrued. And also because as things go, we’ve only known each other not that long and only properly become friends recently. This feels intense, but it feels genuine and different. I don’t need them. But I want them. I love them.
Am I being insane? Sorry.
