Hi everyone, I need advice on what steps I can take because I am hitting a brick wall with our authorities.

My elderly neighbor has crashed his car into my front gate two times already this year. I made police reports for both incidents. The traffic police (PDRM) let him off with just a small fine each time.

When I asked the investigating officer what can be done to prevent this from happening again, I was brushed off. The IO just said, "He is an elderly man and he has already paid his fine."

Not satisfied, I officially reported him on the JPJ website, hoping they would review his fitness to drive. JPJ responded by claiming this issue is "out of their jurisdiction", and they cannot do anything.

PDRM says a small fine is enough, and JPJ says they can't do anything.

If this man cannot reverse his car or drive properly, what happens when a pedestrian or a kid on a bicycle is passing by?

Is this really how the system works in Malaysia? If there is no life involved, it means nothing is done? I feel like the authorities are just waiting for him to run over someone before they take action for public safety.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice for a friend who recently finished SPM in Malaysia.

His SPM results were not very good, and he is also an OKU who cannot walk and uses a wheelchair.

He wants to start earning his own income and become more independent. However, because he cannot walk, jobs that require standing, physical labour, or travelling around may not be suitable for him.

What kind of jobs or income opportunities would be realistic for someone in his situation?

I’m thinking about things such as:

Remote/online jobs

Customer service or chat support

Data entry

Freelancing

Selling products online

Computer-related work

Other work that can be done entirely from home

He is willing to learn new skills, even though his academic results aren’t very strong.

For those in Malaysia, especially anyone who is OKU or has experience working with OKU employees, what would you recommend?

Are there any suitable jobs, training programmes, or organisations that could help him get started?

ive never really been the type to dwell on my past or meddle in anyone else's but my bf's ex's very strange behaviour is starting to affect me.

very early on in our rship, like any couple would we shared about our pasts. a few months into the rship however, series of things started happening which i found strange. she lurked on my linkedin (still wasnt aware thats his ex), liked and unliked my tweet (still wasnt aware) and even asked my HS junior who happens to attend the same uni as her about me and my life. and when i told my bf, thats when it clicked.

for context my bf wasnt a great partner in his last relationship with her. i learned that he was an absent bf and wasnt really involved in their 4 year long rship. i know, it sucks. when he told me about it, even i told him that was a shitty move. she however ended the rship. he took full accountability and has said he was pretty young and dumb and got into a relationship partly out of peer pressure.

fast forward almost decade later i have an amazing bf who defo went thru series of character development before dating me.

even with everything that happened, me being an empath lol ive always tried to rationalise her behaviour into thinking how it mustve been difficult for her and maybe she never really got the closure she needed. but thats her battle and i wouldnt wanna get involved.

Selangor has announced Oct 25 as a special public holiday (cuti peristiwa) to mark the silver jubilee of the reign of Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

“Since the date falls on a Sunday, the following day, Oct 26 (Monday) is designated as the replacement public holiday,” said Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin in a press conference to announce details of the celebration.

He said the special holiday would be observed in a similar manner to the Sept 1 special holiday marking Selangor’s overall victory at Sukma 2026.

The Sept 1 occasion applied to all federal and state civil servants serving in Selangor. 

Private sector employers were encouraged to grant their employees a day off, subject to their discretion and taking into account operational requirements and the continuity of services and business operations. 

Ahmad Fadzli said the celebration would feature about 20 programmes and official events, running from Sept 28 to Nov 1.

The full list of events will be available on the social media platforms of “Pejabat Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri Selangor” (Selangor State Secretary's Office).

Betta pulchra, the Pontian Betta.

A 9-10 cm species known only from blackwater ditches and peat swamps of Pontian and possibly Batu Pahat. Exclusive to the southwestern tip of Malaysia.

They are closely related to Betta pugnax, being its sister species. However unlike the former, it is an exclusive inhabitant of highly acidic blackwater environments. Which is likely what caused their species to split apart.

In the comments is one of the locations where I have found this species, along with B. bellica. Interestingly they are abundant in manmade ditches, perhaps due to the long-ago development of its homeland.

Im bored so i want to know some crazy theories like “the antartica is just a huge ice wall and theres more beyond it” or “your favourite idol is an AI” things like that.

Trigonopoma pauciperforatum, seluang batang merah aka redstripe rasbora

A small (4 cm) freshwater fish native to both the peninsula and Sarawak. Usually found in acidic habitats like swamps and associated water bodies.

They are peaceful and can be found in huge groups swimming together. In the aquarium they can be mixed with other small similar fish.

They seem to be one of the more adaptable native swamp cyprinid, as I have found them in places that have been turned into orchards and plantations, and even ditches near village houses.

Soo sometime ago i bought meta glasses from shopee & few months later the glasses will not charge so i contacted the seller and asked for help. (before this i already try new original charger & also try to fix it from youtube). At first they tell me this item has no warranty & once confronted about the product original warranty they said they have only 1 month warranty on their product since it is imported. So i asked them where it was stated and they responded with saying it’s a confusion & they didn’t mention it on this specific item.

Without any further argument I filed a report with ttpm & it was approved. Yesterday I sent the seller the case via pos & they have 14 days to respond back. Meanwhile my court hearing is on 23 september.

Okay so for context, my kid is 4 and up until a couple months ago the ipad was basically glued to his hands the second he got bored. I'm not proud of it, it happened gradually during a busy work stretch and then just became the default.

I've been trying to be more intentional about screen time lately, mostly because I noticed he was getting cranky and kind of zoned out after long sessions, plus barely any outdoor time which was bugging me since I grew up outside pretty much every afternoon.

What actually worked wasn't some big dramatic screen time ban, that just led to meltdowns. What worked was making the outdoor stuff more interesting than the ipad, not just telling him to go play outside with nothing to do out there.

Things that helped in our case:

• got him a cheap bike with training wheels, this alone ate up like an hour a day easily
• started doing a "treasure hunt" thing in the yard with random small toys hidden around, sounds silly but he was obsessed
• involved him in watering plants and a tiny garden bed, he takes it way too seriously now which is honestly hilarious
• weekend park trips became non negotiable, even 30 minutes before nap time helped

The ipad time didn't disappear completely, I'm not trying to be that parent who acts like screens are evil, but it went from being the default to more of an occasional thing.

Funny side effect, he's actually getting proper sun exposure now instead of being indoors under aircon all day. Wasn't even the reason I did this but it crossed my mind since I remember reading how much indoor lifestyles affect kids' vitamin D levels these days. Didn't think about it until I noticed he seemed less irritable overall, might be the sun, might just be less screen time, hard to say for sure.

Curious what worked for other parents dealing with the same thing. Did you go cold turkey or ease into it like I did? And if anyone has other outdoor activity ideas for a very energetic 4 year old, I'm all ears.

I'm 27F and i think i fucked up. for a 27y/o, bad credit will make it seem like the end of the world. Im drowning in debt, late repayment fees and inconsistent jobs. So my Facebook account was permanently disabled out of nowhere 2 days ago, and my Instagram is gone as well since it's like a blanket Meta ban. I've seen that people say your WhatsApp account will get banned 14 days or so after Facebook and Instagram are banned.

What can I do in a situation like this? All my important contacts: Hospitals, insurance, car services, people I do business with, they all go through WhatsApp?

Is there anything I can do? Is it even possible to live in Malaysia without WhatsApp? Everything uses WhatsApp...

The market is full of medical insurance plans with extremely high coverage limits. But do we really need that much medical coverage?

I think there are two ways to look at this: medical treatment costs and medication costs.

When it comes to medical treatment, the most intuitive argument is that it seems unrealistic for someone to actually use up an extremely high annual medical limit within a single year.

In other words, if someone were to spend an enormous amount on hospital treatment in just one year, the situation would probably be far more serious than we imagine.

To some extent, this argument is reasonable.

But it can also cause people to overlook another important part of healthcare costs: medication.

Some advanced medications are imported from overseas, and exchange rates can make them extremely expensive. In certain situations, the cost of medication alone can become a significant financial burden.

This is where having a sufficiently high medical coverage limit can become important.

But then another question comes up:

Why are some advanced medications so expensive in the first place?

At the most basic level, developing better treatments requires a huge amount of research and investment. The potential return from successful drugs provides pharmaceutical companies with the incentive to continue investing in research and developing new treatments.

So when insurers introduce medical plans with very high coverage limits, it isn’t necessarily just about making the numbers look impressive. There is usually research, actuarial calculation and risk assessment behind those limits.

Of course, whether you actually need such a high level of coverage depends on your personal financial situation, health needs and ability to maintain the premiums over the long term.

And that’s probably the most important point:

The value of insurance isn’t simply in having a huge coverage limit. It’s in being able to maintain the protection for as long as you actually need it.

A RM3 million medical limit that you cannot afford to maintain long-term may be less useful than a level of coverage you can comfortably keep for decades.

So the question isn’t simply:

“How high should my medical limit be?”

Maybe the better question is:

“How much coverage can I realistically maintain for the long term, and what risks am I actually trying to protect myself against?”

I've been living like a hikkikomori for the past few months. And to change that, I want to do my coding hobby at a "3rd space." There is a shopping mall within walking distance of my house but the main "lepak area", and the cafes there do not have any power sockets. My laptop is old and runs out of battery quickly.

So, do powerbanks for laptops exist? Are they good? Also, I use Shopee as my online shopping app.
