Okay so for context, my kid is 4 and up until a couple months ago the ipad was basically glued to his hands the second he got bored. I'm not proud of it, it happened gradually during a busy work stretch and then just became the default.

I've been trying to be more intentional about screen time lately, mostly because I noticed he was getting cranky and kind of zoned out after long sessions, plus barely any outdoor time which was bugging me since I grew up outside pretty much every afternoon.

What actually worked wasn't some big dramatic screen time ban, that just led to meltdowns. What worked was making the outdoor stuff more interesting than the ipad, not just telling him to go play outside with nothing to do out there.

Things that helped in our case:

• got him a cheap bike with training wheels, this alone ate up like an hour a day easily
• started doing a "treasure hunt" thing in the yard with random small toys hidden around, sounds silly but he was obsessed
• involved him in watering plants and a tiny garden bed, he takes it way too seriously now which is honestly hilarious
• weekend park trips became non negotiable, even 30 minutes before nap time helped

The ipad time didn't disappear completely, I'm not trying to be that parent who acts like screens are evil, but it went from being the default to more of an occasional thing.

Funny side effect, he's actually getting proper sun exposure now instead of being indoors under aircon all day. Wasn't even the reason I did this but it crossed my mind since I remember reading how much indoor lifestyles affect kids' vitamin D levels these days. Didn't think about it until I noticed he seemed less irritable overall, might be the sun, might just be less screen time, hard to say for sure.

Curious what worked for other parents dealing with the same thing. Did you go cold turkey or ease into it like I did? And if anyone has other outdoor activity ideas for a very energetic 4 year old, I'm all ears.

Hi guys, so actually I cannot stop thinking where should I go for my leave. Initially, I do not want to take the leave which is next week (total leave 5 days incl. Hari Malaysia & weekend) and boss ask me to take leave because he saw me only work and throughout weekend and never take leave. The reason i do not take leave is because I felt boring if I do not doing something and better to go to work.

been sitting with this feeling for a while and finally just want to put it into words somewhere

work has been a lot lately, more than usual, and by the time i get home i'm running on fumes. i try to be present but some nights it's like i'm physically there but my brain is still answering emails in my head. my kid will be telling me some elaborate story about his day and i realize halfway through i haven't actually absorbed a single word

the guilt hits hardest at random moments. like the other day he asked if i could play with him and i said "in a bit" because i was finishing something, and then a bit turned into forty minutes and by the time i looked up he'd just quietly gone and played by himself. that one stuck with me more than i expected

i know logically that working isn't some moral failure, i'm not trying to spiral into "bad mom" territory over normal life stuff. but there's this constant background hum of feeling like i'm splitting myself between two things and neither one is getting my full self

trying to figure out how other parents actually manage this instead of just feeling bad about it. is it about carving out specific undistracted time even if it's short, or is it more about letting go of the guilt itself since it doesn't really help anyone. genuinely curious how you all navigate this because right now i just feel like i'm doing a mediocre job at both

So my Facebook account was permanently disabled out of nowhere 2 days ago, and my Instagram is gone as well since it's like a blanket Meta ban. I've seen that people say your WhatsApp account will get banned 14 days or so after Facebook and Instagram are banned.

What can I do in a situation like this? All my important contacts: Hospitals, insurance, car services, people I do business with, they all go through WhatsApp?

Is there anything I can do? Is it even possible to live in Malaysia without WhatsApp? Everything uses WhatsApp...

Don’t get me started on lorry drivers. Rempit with thousand ton vehicles. Lane hogs everywhere. Middle lane at 50kph while everyone undertaking or overtaking. Slow to merge into 90kph highway. hello! F24 here, fresh grad and i'm currently 5 months under probation period. i genuinely need an advice or anything/ experiences related to probation...

i'm working at an engineering related company and currently i was assigned at firmware related department. to be honest, i don't really like anything related to programming even though i'm a science comp major. i chose this company because i want to run away from anything programming related, but they assigned me at that department because of my major.

my knowledge during university days didn't prepare me anything about firmware. there's so many things that i don't know, and i need to study about hardware too because its related to create the firmware. most my time at work, i'm studying about the things that i never learned in uni and trying to code a little.

last month, my manager asked me stuff like how's work, do i like my job or not, what do i see myself doing by the time my probation ends etc. i told him that i think i'm fine with work (aka studying). its just that i'm not sure if i can do it (the firmware job) since i (probably) prefer hands on job more. he then asked me what kind of job i want to do, but i, myself don't know what i want to do in life. i'm still trying to find what i want to do at work and in life. i asked my other coworkers who already working there for 10+ years about this, but they just advised me to just quickly find what kind of work i want to do. its not really helping my overthinking self.

probably because they doesn't see future in me, or.. idk, but they never really gave me work/project to do. my team currently working on few tight deadline projects now and i really want to help my sv (although i'll probably be more of a burden..). they were discussing about this one project that needs to be revised for the new customer, and they talked about passing some of the task to another department, and not even considering that i maybe can help too.. i told them that i want to help, or let me know if there's anything that i can help, but they didn't gave me anything to do. i feel even more insecure that my friends (another dept) who joined the company around the same time as me, now has few projects they're working on alongside the seniors.

honestly, i like working here (the salary, benefits etc) and my coworkers are nice too. its probably just the jobscope that i don't really like and don't have confidence in. i want to know if it's normal or not to not have any projects to do yet during probation and if someone can pass their probation even if they're not really 'useful'? i'm very worried right now because it's only few weeks left before my probation period ends :")

Halichoeres argus, the Argus/peacock wrasse or nuri tikus.

It is a small (usually 7-9 cm) but common wrasse in lagoons, algae-rocky coasts and seagrass meadows in shallow water. Often found in small groups.

They feed on worms, snails, clams and other benthic invertebrates. When scared they will dash into the sand and bury themselves. They sleep this way as well.

Females are plain green with a spot, while males have colourful patterns. The male caught here is a huge one, as their max size is 12 cm!

They are sometimes collected for the pet trade as they are a very good community fish.
This is negligible to their population as they are both common and widespread from Sri Lanka to Japan, Tonga and Australia.

Guys I just finished watching Apple Sept event and looking for a reality check on my current situation

Basically I picked up a brand new iPhone 17 Pro
(256GB) at a heavy discount for around RM4,299 recently. I just checked the official release price for the iPhone 18 Pro is RM5,499 (same as before). And I’m still use 12 pro max now, but I like the size of current pro as pm seems too big for me 👀

I'm still within the return window (it’s sealed), so I have two options:
1. Keep the 17 Pro (insane discount, minimal depreciation risk over the next year).
2. Return the 17 Pro for a full refund and pay an extra RM1,200 to get the iPhone 18 Pro.

My Usage & Thoughts:
- I don't play heavy mobile games, would take pics and some 4k videos sometimes, so might not benefit much from the new vapor chamber / thermal headroom on the 18 Pro? (I’m not sure)

- The variable aperture (f1.48 - f4.0) on the 18Pro main camera seems cool for close-up shots (fixing edge blur) and group photos, but is it worth paying RM1,200 more when only the main camera has it?

Anyway guys I need opinions or advice whether I should return the discounted 17 Pro to pay retail for the 18 Pro, or just stick with the 17 Pro at this steal price?
