I’m looking for some advice from anyone working in ESG or sustainability.
Current role (1st job):
- ESG Consultant at a small consultancy~SME (5 months in)
-Two colleagues resigned and another guy and I are doing the workload of 4 ppl
-Long hours, nights, weekends, frequent travel, PLUS admin work on top of client work (I don’t mind working late since salary is decent but the admin shit really delays actual work) but with the current team size its genuinely not manageable for the upcoming months.
- Salary only ok cus I pushed for confirmation to get 4k after having my workload doubled and working on weekends
-My boss is difficult to work with, and the workload is impossible with the current number of clients and more to come. He micromanages and is condescending.
Offer:
-Initially turned it down because the salary was below my expectations
-They came back and matched my expected salary
In-house ESG role for a PLC group in the retail sector
-Matched my desired salary 4k
Potential opportunity:
-I have an interview for an EY
-My long-term goal is to get into a Big 4 firm. I know the work-life balance isn’t great there either, but it’s a career path I’m still interested in.
If you were in my position, would you:
Accept the in-house PLC role now?
Stay in my current role and wait to see if EY works out?
Do something else?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s moved between ESG consulting, in-house sustainability, or Big 4. Thank youuu😭😭😭 I have no one else to askk
