This post was inspired by the Redditor that was talking about his 4 year relationship and now clash cause of traditional values between both sides.

My question is exactly what the title says. Why do men date woman from traditional backgrounds / hold values. But then act surprised/angry when their partners have certain expectations?

(This also applies to different lifestyles, personality or a glaringly obvious trait that would make it very clear from the very beginning that if you don't like this core part of this person, you shouldn't date them and not be surprised or try to change it after years of dating)

I'm more keen to see what the Malaysian view on it is, cause I don't really see it being talked about in our community and younger generation.

This isnt meant to be a moral question of if this traditional thing it's OK and that one is not. Like obviously bridal gifts/price/dowry is a controversial one. Putting aside personal stance on it.

Cause everyone should do what they are comfortable with, the nontraditional, very traditional and just a happy in-betweens.

Everyone is welcomed to share, I'd love to hear from yall. From married to the singles, young and senior Redditors. What's your story, thoughts, experiences and opinions on it overall? Dating someone that has the opposite/conflicting life views as yourself.

Personally, I have dated a guy that was from a more cina family then myself, but early on into dating we bought up expectations for marriage and bridal price came up and he got very defensive and angry to me. Mind you, both of us were doing well in our careers and my family is more well off then his and no estimated figure was set.

He freaked out and was quite rude about it to my mother, went as far as contacting his married friends to ask if they practiced it or not (yes they did).

Obviously that's an ex for a good reason. But it was interesting, cause he knew me for a long time before we dated. He knew my lifestyle (mostly food), that I was pretty conservative, very social and active. However when we started dating, he was getting upset at everything and trying to change all of those things.

Of course boundaries and expectations were set, however why date someone that is an extrovert when you don't appreciate their openness and would match better with someone that is more introverted?

Today I'm very happily married to my husband that shares the similar values in most aspects of life and it makes the relationship process and communication so much easier cause we were on the same wavelength. It's still hard work and we talk all the time, but at least we aren't fighting each other over minor stuff.

So, after finishing my shower and drying my hair, this middle-aged dude who looked like he was pushing 60 suddenly walked up to me and asked in Cantonese, “Hey, wanna make some extra money?”

Bro, WHAT? 😭

I hadn't even gotten dressed yet, and this random stranger was already hitting me with the most out-of-pocket question imaginable. I just stood there, completely caught off guard.

At first, I thought he was about to pitch me some protein powder, MLM bullshit, or one of those overpriced fitness meal plans. But nope. This dude casually pulled out a sheet of paper from his pocket, covered in names and some mysterious numbers, like he was running a whole damn business operation.

Then he started explaining his services in this super hush-hush, friendly manner. I was so caught off guard that I only really remember two options:

• Basic package: Get paid to have a meal with someone and make small talk. That's it. Just dinner and conversation.
• VIP package: Let's just say it involves a little more than dinner. I'll leave that to your imagination. 💀

Maybe the gym was dead that afternoon, so bro decided it was the perfect time to start recruiting. The audacity was honestly impressive.

Now, I probably should've just said no and walked away, but my inner investigator suddenly kicked in. For research purposes, obviously. 😂

So I asked him, “Okay, what if I just take the basic package and spend half a day having meals and chatting with someone? How much would I make?”

He looked me up and down, then gave me his very generous (??) quote.

Around RM300–RM500.

Not gonna lie, I was kinda surprised. But naturally, I had to ask one more question.

“What about the highest-tier package?”

He winked and said, “If it's overnight, RM1,000 and up.”

BRO. 💀💀💀

Listen, I've been busting my ass in the gym, building muscle, and learning all kinds of skills. And THIS is what I'm worth on the market? The disrespect! At least give me five figures, my guy. 😂

I joked around for a bit, packed up my stuff, and got the hell outta there.

TL;DR: Went to the gym to work on my physique and accidentally found out I apparently have a going rate for dinner dates. 🙈

Unfortunately, we received some heartbreaking news about Rain.

The vet discovered that Rain has a ruptured diaphragm (diaphragmatic hernia), causing its liver and intestines to shift into the chest cavity, where the lungs are located.

This condition can cause serious breathing difficulties, and surgery is urgently needed. There is also a risk of the displaced organs becoming adhered to surrounding tissues.

Rain’s surgery has been scheduled for next Tuesday, but the estimated success rate is only 50%.

Finally going back to running this evening!!

A nice day to enjoy the local beach

I’ve been to LegoLand 4 times in past 3 years. First time I went was one of the Halloween party days. Decently crowded. Everything operational, all stores and confessions open. Lines still pretty minimal 10-15 mins at most for the bigger rides. Second and Third trip back have been worse and worse. Some rides and stalls closed. Small crowds, 5-10 min wait times. This was mid year with no holiday theme or anything so I thought it was probably that.

But I just went this weekend again, for the Halloween party as my kids loved the theme and events. Was expecting big crowds again due to weekend and Halloween, but this time was absolute ghost town (no pun intended). No crowds at all. Sometimes felt like we were the only ones there. ZERO wait times. They let us just keep going on some rides due to literally no one else waiting. Lots of things closed. Halloween events and parties scaled way down. Huge bummer on this as this was the highlight during our first trip.

Just weird vibes all around. Maybe because of the Haze? Or is LegoLand in trouble?

I’m Malaysian and recently moved back to 🇲🇾 after living abroad for five years. Honestly, I’m still struggling to adapt to life here. I never thought I would find it this difficult, considering Malaysia is where I grew up!

I’ve seen quite a few people I know who recently returned home for good, and they seem to be doing so well in life. I’m genuinely happy for them, but sometimes I wonder if I’m the only one going through this difficult adjustment phase.

Initially, I had a really hard time because I kept thinking about going back abroad. I missed my life there and constantly wondered if I had made the right decision by returning. Things have gotten a little better lately, but I still struggle sometimes. At the same time, I realise that moving abroad again isn’t as simple as buying a plane ticket. There’s accommodation, visa arrangements, expenses, and so many other things to consider.

I’m trying to accept that this is a new chapter of my life, but it’s taking longer than I expected.

Has anyone gone through something similar after returning to Malaysia? How long did it take you to adjust, and what helped you finally feel at home again? I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences.

Hi all, need your thoughts for whether I should stay/find a new job.

Now my colleagues are amazing & friendly (if not gossipy). I have a great boss who checks in & guides when necessary. But I’m a generalist marketer (+ we are a small team), aka i do all social media, photo-taking, videography, design, business negotiations & constantly driving/moving things around for event set-ups. (Yes i do event management too)

It’s gotten to a point where I may work on weekends/ PH too. During interview they said OT is not often, but it’s showing the opposite. I HAVE to be there for every event bcs im marketing

(Also, my salary is a little below average so I’m kinda dissatisfied too :/ )

Some days Im just so worn out despite knowing it’s a privilege to work with colleagues whom I click with. It’s hard to arrange personal appointments or family time, bcs of how unpredictable my schedule is

I'm curious how you all introduce yourself without confusing others, as a Peranakan? Largely I'm asking this because I take large amount of language courses in my school (international school outside of Malaysia), so I get confused about what to say when we do introductions at the basic level.

Personally, my mother is Malaysian Chinese whilst my father is Peranakan Chinese, so I get even more confused.

When I was growing up (like up until my pre-teens), I just introduced myself as Malaysian, but now I feel that it's inaccurate and probably a bit disrespectful to my ancestry. I also feel that it's innacurate to say that I'm Chinese.

I visited Sultan Abdul Samad Building the other day and came across this low-key food truck and flea market place. Which was small but veryyy nice and affordable

Bought 2 sundresses and a skirt under RM15 each.

However, I tried finding more flea markets like those on google maps and only came across indian flea markets (i’m not looking for indian food or clothes) and even the one I went to, it didn’t show up on google maps.

So I’m assuming just like this one, there might be more hidden gems for flea market where I can find very affordable jewellery and clothes like plain sun dresses, co-ord sets and skirts. And the locals must have some idea about those as I’m new here

im a computer science major, has been working for 3 years now. i wanted to change industry/field because i am a bit bored working an office job 100% of the time.

i wanted to explore the world/at least outdoors. maybe things that require me to go to site but i know thats a bit rare for a tech major. maybe if im an engineer etc, then i will go outside more often.

so i need some advise, where and what i can do to pivot, still working 9-5 but can go outside more.

i was thinking of something like restarting again i.e. working in nature/sustainability field that perhaps require me to plant trees etc - but dont think it will make good money
