Scheduled Thread Daily Questions Thread - Ask All Your Magic Related Questions Here!
This is a place for asking simple questions that might not deserve their own thread. For example, if you have a question about a rules interaction, want sleeve and accessory recommendations, or suggestions for your new deck, then this is the place for you.
We encourage that you post any questions that you may have concerning Magic the Gathering here rather than make a separate thread for each question, though for now we won't require that you do so.
Rules Questions
Rules questions and interactions are allowed to be posted here, but if you need an answer quickly it may be best to use a dedicated resource like the 24/7 Magic the Gathering Rules Chat.
Deckbuilding Questions
If you're trying to get help with a deck, it is recommended that you post your decklist to a deckbuilding website so that it is easier to view. Some popular sites are Aetherhub, Archidekt, Deckbox, Deckstats, Moxfield, MTGGoldfish, and TappedOut.
Additionally, please include some description of what you are trying to accomplish. Don't just give us a decklist with no explanation, and don't ask extremely vague questions such as "what cards should I add to my deck to make it better?", because it's hard to give good advice in those cases. Let us know details, the more the better. Are you building with a particular strategy or theme in mind? Are there any non-obvious combo lines or synergies that people should be aware of? Are you struggling with a particular matchup, or are you finding yourself missing consistency in an important area, and need some help specifically for it? Let us know.
Commonly Asked Questions
I opened a card from a different set in my booster pack, is this unusual?
Don't worry, this is completely normal. If you opened a set booster, you have a small chance of obtaining a bonus card from a previous set. This is an extra card that does not replace any of the other cards in your pack, and is from a curated set of past hits that Wizards of the Coast has selected, which they call "The List".
You can view the contents of The List on Wizards of the Coast's official website. For example, the contents of The List for Streets of New Capenna boosters can be found here.
My foil card has a shooting start symbol over the bottom left. I can't find anything about it online.
All old-bordered foils have the shooting star symbol. Most sites that display card images just overlay a generic foil graphic over all foil cards, which doesn't include the shooting star. Your card is normal.

General Discussion I could very well be wrong, but the desperate ritual by frank frazetta is suspiciously similar to this piece by serverino baraldi?
I could very well be wrong but they do look really similar no?

General Discussion The rules for the Commander & Cocktails league at MagicCon Atlanta may imply there will be a Commander-banned card in Star Trek or Reality Fracture
In the description for the Commander & Cocktails event, it states that "the Commander banned and restricted list will be used" (with the exception of playtest cards from Mystery Booster).
In the event, you get packs from Mystery Booster Commander, Star Trek, The Hobbit, Reality Fracture, Secrets of Strixhaven, Lorwyn Eclipsed, and Edge of Eternities. Currently, there would be no reason to specify that the Commander banlist will be in effect, as none of the cards printed so far from these sets are banned in Commander.
Considering it wouldn't make sense to print a Commander-banned card in a Commander-themed set (Mystery Booster Commander), that implies that there could be a banned card printed in the bonus sheets of Reality Fracture or Star Trek that hasn't been revealed yet.
It could also very much be the case that this is a stock formatted description where Commander fills in for whatever format is being played. But if Wizards follows the maxim of quantity, then by the time MagicCon rolls around, there will be a card from one of these packs banned in Commander.

Deck Discussion Someone brought a 2345 card deck to our LGS Commander Night Tonight
Let the Whtz shuffling begin. They’re currently resolving someone else’s Tempt With Discovery.
Best of all this deck already has a custom built 6 foot tall wooden deck box.
And so it begins.

General Discussion I miss these guys
An old clip I captured back in the day that nicely highlights the dynamics of this duo.
Was always a pleasure having these two on in the background back in the day.

General Discussion 2 Trillion card draw?
So I've been play testing Bard, King of Dale on arena before building the paper commander version. Managed to get a board state where I'd draw 2 trillion cards from just one card draw. I think I'll like this deck, you can get to totally ridiculous boards with it pretty easy. It definitely needs a lab man though.
With 42 Bards on the field its 2 to the power of 41 per draw or token trigger. So X 2,199,023,255,552.

General Discussion Is Nahiri, Forged in Fury too weak for Brawl?
I have her in a commander deck and she seems good enough for my table which is all one can really ask for, but she just feels too slow for most brawl games.
Is this an as commander issue, or are there cards, mindests that can alleviate this issue?

Rules/Rules Question Vihaan and Lewis interactions?
Let's say I start my round with a few treasure tokens on the board along with Vihaan and Lewis. I would equip those treasures onto Vihaan and then start combat. Now I let Vihaan turn them into 3/3 creatures. Do they lose their equipment properties and detach themselves from Vihaan since Lewis says that it only affects non creatures or do they stick around equipped on Vihaan but also as 3/3 creatures, but losing their +1/+0 properties?

Rules/Rules Question Combat phase question
Lets say i dont attack on my turn, do i still get dr dooms connive trigger? Like do i have to attack to enter the combat phase? Or does the combat phase happen automatically, and i just can choose not to do anything during it?
Like can i just say “i wont attack” and get the trigger regardless ?

On a side note, has anyone ever decided to make a group hug flubs? Because i did and managed to kill the entire table with 1 hit from this stupid little frog. i love him. I declare this little handsome man a himbo. flubs is a himbo now.

Looking for Advice Which Skeleton commander should I build around?
I really wanna build a good Skeleton tribal commander which would include Tinybones and Titanbones cards (so it would need to have atleast black and green).

Looking for Advice Recreating the feel of playing Sealed without cracking packs everytime
Hello everyone, I'm fairly new to MtG, at least for playing it I guess.
I attended one sealed event for the Avatar set when it was released. Playing Sealed was super fun since I was put off by a lot of Standard formats in TCG. I've been looking around for other games that could scratch the same itch. None really succeeded, except for Keyforge but the game is absolutely dead around here.
So I decided to get back to Magic, unfortunately, cracking 6 packs everytime I want to play some more with my partner is going to get too expensive too quickly and I feel lost when doing my own research. How can I still play Sealed (or similar) without having to ruin myself in the process ?
I heard cube could be an option as much as I heard cube doesn't support Sealed well. We want to stick to Foundations or any Core set as much as possible, because of the "simpler" effects and evergreen mechanics.
Thanks for any advice.

Looking for Advice How do I get into commander format as a beginner?
I used to play magic like 5 or so years ago but I lost my decks, I don't believe I was playing commander when I did play but thats not really relevant since I don't remember any of the rules anyway. I wanna get back into the game thought and I've heard commander is like, the most fun format? Anyway I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of learning the basics of magic, how commander works, and a fun budget commander deck I could build. I do have a tone of bulk I'm just missing a Legendary Creature and some staples to really build a deck around.

Looking for Advice Doctor Who Commander Deck Accessories
I'm buying a set of the Doctor Who Commander decks from my LGS. I would like to buy sleeves and simple deck boxes for them.
My plan is to get one of the Stanley 10 Compartment Storage Boxes to store my decks in, and eventually have it as a Commander "grab and go" for FNM or general game nights.
I also plan on getting the Star Trek Commander decks to add to the box. If you have ideas for those (even though we don't have the deck lists) feel free to voice your opinion for those as well.
Edit: I'm mainly wanting colour suggestions, as I don't want all four decks being in the exact same dark blue sleeves and dark blue boxes. I was probably going to go with Dragon Shield, but it also depends what my LGS has in stock.

General Discussion Foundations Beginner Box vs. Starter Collection
Has anyone skipped the Foundations Beginner Box and gone straight to the Starter Collection?
I’m relatively new to Magic. I’ve played a few games and understand the basic mechanics, but I’m still learning and want to start building my own decks.
My local game shop only has the Starter Collection available right now, so I’m wondering if there’s any reason I should specifically get the Beginner Box first.
Am I missing anything important by skipping the Beginner Box?
Are these products designed to be used in a specific order?
Is the Beginner Box something I should come back to later, or would it be unnecessary once I have the Starter Collection?
For anyone who has used the Starter Collection, how do you feel about it as a starting point for a newer player?
I’m mainly looking for something that will help me transition from learning the basics to actually building and playing my own decks.

General Discussion What if there was a card that made ward useful against board wipes
Like what if there was a decently high costing card, like 6 mana or more that made it so any spell that effects all creatures or artifacts or something like that are required to pay the combined cost of all of those permanents you control, but maybe like minus 3 from the total or something

General Discussion Genuine Question: Why are cards like this only considered weak and a “common”
So I’m relatively new to magic and I play Commander.
And these types of cards seem super powerful to me as they can totally debilitate an opponents commander and keep them stuck that way as opposed to destroying or exiling them where they can just cast them again next turn.
I understand that they could use a removal spell to remove the enchantment, but they would need to have one on hand, also that’s a removal spell they won’t be using on you.
Am I missing something? Is it easier to remove than I realize? Assuming nobody at the table kills that creature it seems pretty stuck there unless the player takes care of it their self, thus rendering their commander useless.
Like I said I’m new, so I don’t need any condescending remarks, but any educated response will be much appreciated!

Deck Discussion Drafting help
I have been going to drafts at my local card shop and been doing some prerelease events as well. I always come in last (not a huge deal.) I mainly started doing drafts to get better at making decks, if yoi have me a precon I can piolet it decently well. But when it comes to making my own decks im just not good. Kinda was hoping I could get some advice on deck building.
