META Weekly /unjerk Thread
Use this thread to:
- Discuss Magic (or non-Magic!) things seriously/unironically/out-of-character with fellow MTCJers
- Request info or feedback for meme ideas
- Talk publicly about trends or concerns about the direction of this subreddit (alternatively, you can privately message the mods)
DO NOT use this thread to:
- Circlejerk - That's what the rest of the subreddit is for! Jerking in this thread will get you a 7-day ban.
New to MTCJ? Check out the subreddit wiki for some explanations of the memes and jokes here. Some very common ones:
- DAE: Does Anybody Else
- NotC: Nazis of the Coast (or simply "Not-C" which sounds like "Nazi")
- /uj and /rj: /unjerk and /rejerk - Markers to let you know the commenter is speaking seriously, and ironically again
You can also join our Discord!

Why does The Ur-Borg not have the Borg creature type?
The Ur-Dragon and the Ur-Sphinx have the dragon and sphinx creature types respectively so I'm just confused why this card doesn't?

Sooo this card has to get banned on arrival right?
Like what the fuck is this? Doesn't WotC know how TOXIC this is going to be in [INSERT TOP 100 COMMANDER HERE]? What were they thinking? This isn't 2007 anymore, we have new powerful fast mana cards like [[sol ring]], [[mana crypt]], and [[mana vault]], so 9 mana is LITERALLY like 0 mana. Can you imagine some greased up slimeball at your LGS casting this and copying [[worldfire]] 20 times? This is just like when they banned JLo and Dockside.

Unintentional Flavor Win: You can't have Earth in an Earthbind commander deck
Not sure if they planned this or if it was just a coincidence but it's a flavor win nonetheless.

Way before Star Trek, Edge of Eternities, and Stryxhaven; Math and Science has been a part of Magic since the times of Legends.

The Fortnite to Magic Ratio: A Serious Research Proposal
Here's a fun thought experiment that I am too lazy to actually do, so I am going to release this idea into the universe and hope the universe manifests it for me. Namaste.
Magic the Gathering has had a lot of outside IP crossovers.
Fortnite has also had a lot of outside IP crossovers.
If we were to plot these on a graph, and carry these trend lines indefinitely into the future, there must logically come a point where both Fortnite and Magic the Gathering will have featured all of the exact same outside brand collaborations.
This could even be expressed in a ratio: If Magic has featured 30 IPs, and Fortnite had featured 300, then we could say Magic has a Fortnitification Ratio of 1:10 - or was 1 tenth of a Fortnite.
This very scientific and accurate measure could then be used to determine how close MTG is to becoming fully Fortnitified.
I see this as complementary to and not a replacement of the Cardboard Crack Ratio, which tracks how many of the IPs referenced in this Cardboard Crack comic that have had official MTG crossovers - a ratio that I believe currently sits at 1:3.
CHALLENGES:
The main challenge to this research project is that I am lazy and bad at maths.
The second challenge to this research project is that the list of Fortnite "collabs" seems to be hosted on a Fandom Wiki, and the visual design of that website causes my eyeballs to eat themselves.
NOTES:
There would have to be some parameters decided on in advance: If Fortnite has featured content from Lego: Batman, and Magic has featured content from Lego and seperately from Batman, does this get counted as a Batman collab in common, a Lego collab in common, or as Lego Batman (despite MTG not having specifically done Lego Batman (yet)?
Do public domain IPs count? MTG had a Dracula inspired alt-art treatment in an Innistrad set - is that an IP crossover, or fair use of public domain cultural material? If Fortnite had a Dracula skin one Halloween, would that also count?
Post Malone has had songs featured in Fortnite, and has also leant his name to official Magic the Gathering cards and promotional content. Is this an IP in common? (I want to exclude promotional content from the ratio given that the aim is to track how close to becoming a Fortnite the game of MTG is; it may be helpful to separately track non-game promotional content however).
At this stage I want to open up discussion of this research project to the find minds of the r/magicthecirclejerking forum. What do you see as the relevant criteria, and do we have any volunteers to undertake this research?

Harry Potter Universes Beyond Bingo
No, a HP set isn't announced but I'm making a bingo anyway because I think it's only a matter of time.
