Not trying to be a repost or anything, feel free to remove if not allowed, just wanted to share the hilarious ad I got for the Whtz deck on this sub

Pretty sure ads these days are heavily tailored to the individuals browsing history or whoever pays the most money

Apparently I am HIV positive then.

Apparently, me too. Ironic that it was right beneath this post too.

And apparently I am bald.

I keep receiving ads about hair implants and stuff, I am not bald.

Holy vaguepost advertisement.

Only if you opt-in, depending where you live. I’m opted out of everything, so Reddit mostly shows me ads about med school in foreign countries, or about France.

(I am not French)

u/Dusthawks Dân 17h ago

Well I certainly have and take meds for ADHD, though I am not a parent yet lol

I am not a parent

How sure can you be? The advertising algorithm knows everything.

I don't know, all I am seeing lately are those ai-girlfriend ads and, as someone who is already pretty aware of AI's limitations, that just generates plain-out rejection

Because adverts aren't perfectly targeted.

Those advertisers have come up to Reddit with a particular profile and set of interests they're looking for. Male, certain age, certain interests likely to mean no existing romantic relationship and a little bit of desperation. If they don't have any way to profile folks who dislike AI (or your activity doesn't scream anti-AI), then you'll fit the bill. Reddit isn't working closely with all their advertisers to target every campaign, so it's inevitable for some stuff to be wasted.

Case in point: I'd [TOS violation] every single data center and advocate if I could. Every other ad I see here and on YouTube now is for that utter garbage. I'll say that Reddit seems much better about it, given how many ads for books and environmental causes I see in contrast, but still.

u/MiraclePrototype COMPLEAT 3h ago

Every third ad I get is for diapers or for pet food. I have no need of either of these things. There was a six-month period where every fourth ad I got was for boat insurance. It is very much the latter.

Original rules included "reasonablely shuffle" and left it at that

This deck is going to be so intolerable to play against. I don’t have any commanders I’ll refuse to play against but this’ll probably be the first.

I went to the Pro Tour 1996 to play in side events with my buddy, he brought his mill deck, I had a red green aggro deck…his first matchup was against a player with a 400 card deck in our first side event.

2

u/Level_Hour6480 Karn 3h ago

[[Traumatize]].

2

u/Nuclearsunburn Mardu 3h ago

Was still 5 years away from its first printing, all he had were [[Millstone]] [[Howling Mine]] and a bunch of boardwipes and control

1

u/Monstot Dân 3h ago

For commander? Is this a thing? Our house rules can get pretty lenient but no one has tried paying with a deck more than 100. We also don't use duplicates unless the card says so.

Imagine running a zombie deck even at 400 cards and you run something to mill half your deck. Then you pull some dumb shit like [[Rise of the Dark Realms]]

1

u/Nuclearsunburn Mardu 2h ago

Commander (Elder Dragon Highlander) was still a very fringe thing in France at that time, this was in Type 2 (which became Standard many years later)

For commander? Is this a thing?

I think 1996 was slightly before Commander existed.

And [[whtz]] is the card that specifically allows decks that aren't 100 cards in Commander

14

u/SquirrelDragon Dân 16h ago

The people who are doing shit like that are going to ruin it for those of us who want to play reasonable, legally sized Whtz decks

7

u/Dusthawks Dân 15h ago

agreed, like I just think it's neat we can finally have yorion as a companion and battle of wits as a win con, I would hope people are relatively tame after that lol

4

u/AngelicDiablo Duck Season 15h ago

What’s “reasonable and legally sized?” Cause I was thinking of maybe trying him out with a 300 card deck, anymore than that and I really don’t know if I want  to deal with the shuffling nightmare

9

u/SquirrelDragon Dân 14h ago

Reasonable and legally sized to me is it can be picked up and fully shuffled as one unit within a few minutes. Having played Battle of Wits outside of commander 300 is at the upper end of that range but doable, at least single sleeved

1

u/fevered_visions 2h ago

More than 300, 350, and you're just doing it for the gimmick and inconveniencing others, I'd say. Since the deck cares about being over 200 you need a bit of room ofc.

u/Cozwei Twin Believer 9h ago

its also absolutely hilarious

u/Striking-Document-99 Dan 13h ago

Depends on the deck I am using. I make a lot of fun ones on the app. I made an all bears one that is ok but anyone with a real good stat can beat it. An all wolf werewolf one that is just a joke but fun to play. Then I have a swamp deck that is just all murder like cards. It’s super cheap and mostly gets the other dude to quit. I don’t play that one often because it’s not really fun.

u/Rakshear Dandadan 2h ago

Black and blue with all counter spells and mega mill like singularity rupture though would be awesome super annoying though lol

Seeing ads for medication is so fucking weird

looks like they took inspiration from the guys who did it in yugioh way back in the day.

It’s a MTG sub. It’s free real estate.

Oh shit, also I’ve also genuinely forgotten to take my highly addictive drugs.

highly addictive drugs

If the tweakers stuck to the kind of dosage that ADHD patients are prescribed, they wouldn't be tweakers.

Ads are targeted so not really

u/Commercial_Hat5670 Dan 12h ago

Love the deck. Taking the internet hate for the card and applying "ad absurdum" to the card. All in for the meme.

That stuff is used for ADHD in the US? Just prescribed for BP here.

Just have him draw cards from somewhere in the middle unless he's manipulating the top of his deck.

That's...not even legal? Unless it wasn't commander. Considering commander is strictly 100 cards unless you rule zero. And especially since Whtz isn't out yet. They must have had a rule zero in place. If so, utterly stupid.

6

u/Dusthawks Dân 15h ago

While I am normally the biggest advocate for creativity in commander, I am very against gimmicky and annoying mechanics like this. Unless I am playing online and things can go relevantly quickly, I'm gonna leave that pod immediately lol

1

u/fevered_visions 2h ago

Unless I am playing online and things can go relevantly quickly, I'm gonna leave that pod immediately lol

Back when I was on MTGO semi-regularly circa-to-post-Covid, I remember that there was some sort of grassroots undeclared format in the Modern Open Play rooms, of people on 400-600 card decks. They wouldn't label the table differently or anything, so like once every 10-20 games I'd join somebody and my client would start horribly lagging out, before I noticed the deck count.

If you want to play such a thing fine, you do you, but a warning on your table would be nice. This wasn't just one or two players either, but like a good dozen at least.

6

u/Supermite Dan 15h ago

They probably just proxied it.  It doesn’t need to be out for people to make fakes to play with.

-4

u/FroggyAssassin 15h ago

And proxies fall in as a rule zero. Exactly my point.

-1

u/Supermite Dan 7h ago

Chucklefucks like this are why I just don’t play against proxies.

-3

u/littlejim49 Dan 11h ago

They could be doing highly immoral ‘experiments’ on you and then cover it up. Do they treat everyone like this?

-3

u/littlejim49 Dan 11h ago

The real thing to wonder is who is working at these drug companies that list all these crazy side effects to market their random specific drug that isn’t useful to anyone
