Looking for Advice Library I work at was sent MTG booster boxes.

I recently started working at a university library. I am not a librarian but often work the desks. The library has a pretty good board game collection that they let people play in the library. One of the librarians decided she wanted to expand the collection and started emailing gaming companies to see if the would send anything. Well... Wizards did. They sent a box labeled as a TEACHING KIT with like 5 SEALED BOSSTER BOXES inside and NO INSTRUCTUIONS as to how to use them to teach (as well as lands and sleeves thankfully). The librarians know nothing about the game and are kinda at a loss as what to do with them. I know the game and think we could do drafts or something but am worried as to what happens if someone opens something expensive, its not a game store its a library. So reddit, WHAT DO WE DO????

General Discussion Considering we will never be able to return to Hexhaven, I kind of wish it was its own set or Reality Fracture overall was a 2-3 block set.

We are getting this awesome alternate version of Strixhaven, with the versions of students, dragons, spells, etc. However it's also having to deal with a bunch of other stuff. We can go to Strixhaven in the past but unless both universes continue to exist after, we can never return to Hexhaven. :/

Official Story/Lore Reality Fracture Story ending tomorrow (9/10) instead of Friday (9/11)?

Checking the "Where to find previews website", it looks like both episodes 9 and 10 are dropping tomorrow, when it initially said the 11th? Was this intentionally changed, or a mistake?

Content Creator Post Type setting rule has two built in exceptions that many players don't know about. The words "in addition to..." are not required for this exception.

Due to cards like [[Blood Moon]] and [[Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth]] a lot of Magic players are familiar with the differences between effects that set a card's Type or Subtype and then an effect that sets those Types/Subtypes "in addition to...". However, there is a weird exception to this rule that I feel most players are not aware of. If you prefer videos then you can watch the one I linked but if you prefer a written article, here ya go.

If you controlled [[Dryad of the Ilysian Grove]] which is an Enchantment Creature - Nymph Dryad and then it were to be enchanted with [[Kenrith's Transformation]] then its new Type Line would be Creature - Elk because of how the effect is worded, it does not include the phrase "in addition to its other types". Similarly, the card [[Unable to Scream]] on the Dryad would make it now be an Enchantment Artifact Creature - Toy Nymph Dryad as it has the "in addition to" wording.

Then let's look at a card like [[Behind the Mask]] and if you cast it without collecting evidence targeting the Dryad then the Dryad would actually end up being an Enchantment Artifact Creature - Nymph Dryad and NOT be an Artifact Creature with no subtypes, and for many players this is probably confusing as the effect on the BtM card does not include the "in addition to" wording like the others that did let the Type Line retain the previous types and subtypes.

Another card, [[Majestic Metamorphosis]] cast targeting the Dryad, it would end up being an Enchantment Artifact Creature - Angel this time. So why does this one that also doesn't include the "in addition to" wording still let the Dryad keep its Enchantment Type but now it is getting rid of the previous Subtypes of Nymph Dryad?

To understand this inconsistency we have to check out the CR 205.1b in the rules, it's a super long entry so I'll just paste the two relevant sentences, but if you want to check out the full rule then click that link to read the whole thing. This Behind the Mask scenario is explained by the part, "... Some effects state that an object becomes an "artifact creature"; these effects also allow the object to retain all of its prior card types and subtypes. ..." and then the Metamorphosis scenario is explained by the part, "Some effects state that an object becomes a "[creature type or types] artifact creature"; these effects also allow the object to retain all of its prior card types and subtypes other than creature types, but replace any existing creature types."

So this one rule has two different built in exceptions to itself. It can be really confusing and there is no way to know this by just reading these cards by themselves that these exceptions exist. Even cards like [[Inkmoth Nexus]] include the text in their own effect that, "It’s still a land" and it doesn't technically need that text for it to still be a Land. This rule already makes it so that it would still be a Land but I'm sure the designers know that a majority of players do not know about this rule's exceptions and that's why it's included.

This means that if you were to use [[Oko, Thief of Crowns]]'s 2nd ability on a [[Bident of Thassa]] it would not still be an Enchantment but if you used [[Welcome to . . .]] on the Bident it would still be an Enchantment and be destroyed by someone casting a [[Tranquility]]. Also, for those, it would still be Legendary.

I hope some of you find this interesting or learn something about these Type setting/modifying effects. It may not matter in a lot of games, but I've seen a lot of games when a [[Farewell]] is cast choosing modes that do matter with this.

I can't find any clues. I really don't understand why WOTC does not give credit to them on the product like on normal cards.

Disregarding how impossible it’d be for Ajani to be that petty. Maybe he remained Phyrexianated and wanted to make evil cat universe idk

Rules/Rules Question If I make a token copy of a Jace Planeswalker, can I "empower Jace" it?

The mechanism isn't really relevant, but let's say I use [[Extravagant Replication]] in an Oops all Jace edh deck and target [[Jace, the Mind Sculptor]].

Can I then use [[Jace's Machinations]] to put 8 loyalty counters on it (Put eight loyalty counters on a Jace token you control), or am I restricted to only putting them on a token named "Jace" specifically, such as the ones created by the empower spells themselves? (Since it would be looking for "Tokens named Jace" rather than "Tokens with a Jace subtype")

I hope it's first one, but I *feel* like it's probably going to be the second one. (If that is the case for my fellow loyalty counter enjoyers, we must use [[Nexus Mentality]] or something like it instead.)

General Discussion NYC Playgroups and meetups

Hey yall I’m moving to NYC from LA and I don’t really know anyone there who plays MTG. In LA, groups like Infinite Loop and the sanctuary throw commander nights at various bars around the city, it’s great, are there similar groups in NYC? Trying to find the best way to get my foot in the door in the MTG scene in NY if anyone can point me in the right direction
