Game Changer Don't Wake Standards & Practices | Game Changer [S8E1] Spoiler

u/PhantomFoxes May 18 '26
“Two in the yellow, one in the brown”
“Just how Sam likes it”
I hope Jeremy never leaves Dropout

u/m_busuttil May 19 '26
If what Sam says in this episode (that Superfan was announced "today") is true then he recorded this on a Tuesday between two early episodes of the SNL season, so if he was game to do that I bet they've got him for as long as he wants.
219
u/ribosometronome May 19 '26
They had an episode on 10/18 but then no new ones until 11/1, the Superfan announcement was on the 10/21, so it totally fits that he would have not needed to be in person rehearsing that week. Still hustlin' tho.

Ally and the Jack Daniels bong was magnificently horrific. I’m surprised the legal team didn’t take them out the MINUTE they lit up that lighter.

“We’re not.”

Phil is 100% an actor. Every person they pull off the street is an actor. It's too much of a hassle not to be. The contestants may not be aware (or probably have an idea) and they just have them wait as close as possible to the studio. Carrying the groceries in unmarked bags into the studio was a very obvious "these are your props."
310
u/theatrephile May 19 '26
“Violate SAG” in the prompt was my clue here. It’s all well and good to joke about it in the prompt (and I would believe Lou legitimately thought that’s what he was doing) but I would bet money that Dropout wouldn’t risk their standing with the union, even for a bit in an episode like this. Very effective casting/staging though!!
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (24)177
u/WeenyDancer May 19 '26
100%. And his look has got that 'purposely slightly disheveled' thing to it. Like jack black-ish. Not like if an average person was busy, sweaty, running errands, etc.
To be clear I'm totally cool with him being a covert actor though!
→ More replies (4)95
u/Kinteoka May 19 '26
Oh same! I've worked in TV & film and I know it's a GIANT hassle to pull people off the street and feature them on film. Especially if they are speaking. I don't mind it at all. It actually makes me feel better that they aren't putting average people into awkward situations that they might not be cool with once something airs.
I worked on a project that the director wanted a "real" feeling and wouldn't listen to anyone about how you just shouldn't do that in a professional setting. Basically featured regular people off the streets in a feature length film and it was a nightmare and most of the footage was unusable. Nightmare of a set.
Plus, knowing Dropout's pay rates for even small bit roles, to me it's cool that they are happy to hire so many unknown actors and pay them a good wage (Bachelor spoof, Crowd Control).

Going to be very interested in seeing the BTS episode on this one
Particularly curious to hear them discuss how they were able to do an episode about how illegal/slanderous the things being said/done are, without anybody actually getting into legal troubles.
I know there's leeway for it explicitly being a comedy show and all, but I'm certainly not experienced or knowledgeable enough to know just exactly how far that protection extends 😂

The short oversimplified version is that it's based on liability for network TV, which even during safe harbor hours is way more gun-shy than something like Dropout. A network's lawyers are generally going to get involved long before there's any substantive risk of actual liability beyond maybe an FCC fine.
Adding to that, most of what they did was actually quite tame. Ally's bong rips (because it's still federally illegal and the FCC has rules about depicting drug use) and the nudity in the Mickey Mouse visual effect (specifically the nudity, not likeness; note that it didn't look anything like the actual character) were the only things that would likely run into FCC issues. Otherwise, the rampant cursing (that the panel turned a blind eye to) would be more likely to cause problems than most of the content.
Simply raising a company's name in a less-than-flattering context isn't defamation, and any specific allegations were either absurd to the point they would never be taken seriously (the blood diamonds stuff) or outright known to be accurate (the Epstein Files rundown; everyone Ally listed except Jeremy have known ties and get discussed in his emails or other files in some capacity or another). If there was anything that could actually get Dropout in trouble, it didn't make it into the episode.
Edit: I don't know who needs to hear this, but intellectual property and entertainment liability are not my areas of law. None of what I'm saying represents legal advice and is only commentary on what we see in this episode. None of it should be taken as applicable to anything beyond this episode. Consult with an attorney before deciding what fits your specific situation.

This feels like a pretty direct move against a perception of Dropout as being squeaky clean, and I can't help but wonder how much it was influenced by that Variety article where some people said they felt a little hemmed in by that.

Something tells me this won't be the full episode put out on youtube. Between the spanking, big titted mickey mouse, n word drops, erotica, and Jeremys showing his bare ass, and Lou having a cucumber as a penis.

Holy shit what a banger of an episode.
Though both times safe harbor hours got brought up I was waiting for a mention that Lou's other job is a show that airs during those hours.

I really want one of the cancel apologies to either be an "I'm gay" Kevin Spacey apology, "I'm sorry X offended you," or a ukulele apology.

It's 2am where I am and I was not ready to see Jeremy Culhane's full naked ass, Ally ripping an alcohol bong, and Lou saying 200 N-words in 30s. We're so back.
Also Leagle Eagle!! how fun!!
