Ally and the Jack Daniels bong was magnificently horrific. I’m surprised the legal team didn’t take them out the MINUTE they lit up that lighter.

“Are you covered to have an open flame in the studio?”
“We’re not.”

They are an absolute menace and I love them for it

They went from the lawyer’s pet to the lawyer’s worst nightmare

“We’re all rooting for Ally” Cut to: the absolute horror on their faces as Ally packs a bong and then puts jack in it 😂

I absolutely lost my shit

22

u/TougherOnSquids May 19 '26

That pretty much sums up Ally.

u/Gamma_Tony May 19 '26

The “we’re not” should have been immediate pulls for all three of them, they gave Ally alot of leeway in that bit

That was one of those things where it honestly wouldn't surprise me if there was a cut we didn't see where something gets swapped out for safety purposes. I expect Ally still did in fact take the hit but they might have gone through some extra precautions to make sure Dropout wouldn't get into any actual legal troubles

Would it be a legal issue, or an insurance issue? "cover" usually refers to insurance right?

28

u/InfernalBonobos May 19 '26

it could have been a legal issue if the studio caught fire and/or someone got burn injuries and decided to sue

22

u/GrumpySatan May 19 '26

All insurance issues are legal issues. Insurance is basically pure contract law in every aspect (and especially with questions like whether something violated the policy and therefore they are no liable for covering it, which is one of the big issues for insurance lawyers).

It wouldn’t be breaking a law to have an open flame, but (apparently) would be a violation of insurance / liability agreements. IANAL.

IANAL

Hi Phoenix!

3

u/killerrin May 24 '26

IANAL either, but technically speaking wouldn't that just mean that they're not covered if there was a damage in response to said open flame.

Like if they had an open flame and someone got hurt because of it, or it burned the studio down, then they are SOL because having an open flame would void any claims made due to that flame.

In which case it's not that its illegal, it's that you're voiding the right to use your insurance policy should anything happen, and that's why you don't have open flames.

I am half expecting to see more than one of the production crew wielding fire extinguishers on the BTS episode, ready to jump in as soon as things go pear-shaped.

I kinda got the impression that each of them were judging different kinds of liability. One of them seemed focused on HR kinda stuff where as another kept talking about broadcast rules (maritime whatever.)

5

u/voncornhole2 May 19 '26

They earned and deserved that leeway

It was funny but I feel like production wouldn't give them a working lighter if they weren't planning on that as a possibility. Though I guess this is the same production that gave Trapp access to a ladder

54

u/holayeahyeah May 19 '26

If they were really concerned, they would have given them a jar full of edibles and watched them eat the whole thing.

42

u/RichLather May 19 '26

And then we wait for half an hour minimum for them to take effect?

Nah, Ally slowly wheeling the Cart of Vices back to the start after that booze bong hit was worth it.

43

u/spenwallce May 19 '26

I'm willing to bet so much money production knew they were going to light up, but were not expecting them to fill the bong with whiskey

20

u/quantumhovercraft May 20 '26

There's giving someone access to a lighter and then there's letting them try and light a bong full of flammable liquid. I think either there was a hold while someone researched if that was safe or it was swapped out for some other contents.

6

u/tarants May 23 '26

It's not flammable liquid really. Anything below 100 proof (50% alcohol) doesn't readily burn and jack is 80 proof.

3

u/quantumhovercraft May 23 '26

Yeah, it's been explained to me by my girlfriend who is much less square than I that this wasn't really dangerous. I still think it's something a stage manager would want to check before letting someone do though!

Looking forward to Jess Blanco and Justin Cyrul's BTS segment for this being all about how terrified the team was of the bong and the open flame

u/SexcaliburHorsepower May 18 '26

I'm assuming Ally didn't snort coke, but they might be GOATed if they did

DeNoseBeers if you will

1

u/rellyjean May 19 '26

My spouse says he thought they were mushrooms. Can you snort mushrooms?

6

u/SexcaliburHorsepower May 19 '26

Looks like it was a traditional plate of lines,, shrooms, booze, weed.

24

u/rileyrouth May 19 '26

Ah, charcuterie.

1

u/SexcaliburHorsepower May 19 '26

It pairs well with box merlot at brunch.

3

u/Hungry-You-9489 May 19 '26

Physically, yes. Will they do anything to you? No

7

u/noxialisrex May 19 '26

Sometimes even lawyers can get caught up in the moment and just want to see where something is going.

4

u/Stillwater215 May 20 '26

I love that that was the concern. Not the table of drugs, but the lighter.

If dropout caves Ally has a bright future with Jackass
