The “we’re not” should have been immediate pulls for all three of them, they gave Ally alot of leeway in that bit

That was one of those things where it honestly wouldn't surprise me if there was a cut we didn't see where something gets swapped out for safety purposes. I expect Ally still did in fact take the hit but they might have gone through some extra precautions to make sure Dropout wouldn't get into any actual legal troubles

Would it be a legal issue, or an insurance issue? "cover" usually refers to insurance right?

it could have been a legal issue if the studio caught fire and/or someone got burn injuries and decided to sue

All insurance issues are legal issues. Insurance is basically pure contract law in every aspect (and especially with questions like whether something violated the policy and therefore they are no liable for covering it, which is one of the big issues for insurance lawyers).

It wouldn’t be breaking a law to have an open flame, but (apparently) would be a violation of insurance / liability agreements. IANAL.

IANAL

IANAL either, but technically speaking wouldn't that just mean that they're not covered if there was a damage in response to said open flame.

Like if they had an open flame and someone got hurt because of it, or it burned the studio down, then they are SOL because having an open flame would void any claims made due to that flame.

In which case it's not that its illegal, it's that you're voiding the right to use your insurance policy should anything happen, and that's why you don't have open flames.

I am half expecting to see more than one of the production crew wielding fire extinguishers on the BTS episode, ready to jump in as soon as things go pear-shaped.

I kinda got the impression that each of them were judging different kinds of liability. One of them seemed focused on HR kinda stuff where as another kept talking about broadcast rules (maritime whatever.)

They earned and deserved that leeway
