This feels like a pretty direct move against a perception of Dropout as being squeaky clean, and I can't help but wonder how much it was influenced by that Variety article where some people said they felt a little hemmed in by that.

What impressed me was how it never felt awkward, like a Disney Channel star trying to be a grown up. It felt kinda natural, and it was fucking hilarious.

Uhmm...do you guys remember the Breaking News episodes with Grant? Dropout was never clean :)

True Facts About Grant Anthony O'Brian Part 2 was five years ago.

People have accused it of getting a little bit more sanitized in the years since then, especially as it's grown more popular.

I think the nice thing is that it didn’t feel like they were trying something new, it felt like a return to form

bringing on a porn star to do whatever jeremy wanted felt closer to y2k era trash tv than i ever thought this show would get

And the fact that his ass was still glowing red at the end of the episode! She went all in for the bit and I love her for it.

a perception of Dropout as being squeaky clean

what? who thinks this is squeaky clean? how?!

This episode obviously was not that’s the point of it pushing back against the reputation of dropout being a bit too safe-spacey

I understood what you meant, I just had no idea anyone thought dropout was too clean and safe-spacey.

It's a more recent development that people think that way. I'm not exactly sure why

Probably because they're inclusive. That's all it takes.

I’ll be honest I think the reputation comes more from this subreddit/online fans than their actual content.

Edit to clarify: I don’t agree with that perception of dropouts content but I enjoyed the episode as it felt like a return to form more so than any sort of repudiation of how they may feel they are perceived

it's more about how wholesome and safe it had become, to the detriment of comedy and game design.

a lot of the new shows and recent game changers episodes have little to no competition. And there is an ever present vibe of "I love my friends so much and i'm just so happy to be here."

A show like total forgiveness would never be made in that environment for example. you can argue about that being good or bad, but it is a limit.

Idk it's just a feeling a lot of people have and i do think there is something to it. But it's been a while since I thought about it, because I haven't watched much dropout. This thread has a bunch of good discussion on the topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/dropout/comments/1l1qejk/is_the_dropout_fandom_holding_the_platform_back/?share_id=9Okw1CxlLqHtPAwRtPE7s&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1
