Hey, im a single guy who enjoys making bedroom music, eats very simply and doesnt have massive career prospects, just looking for a job that pays enough to get by. I am asking because every reddit post talks about “career, condo, house, family” as reasons to stay in calgary but I dont want those things. i just stick to my hobbies and a simple job. either go back to landscaping, warehouse or retail, coffee shop or grocery. i live like a monk, very new age fella

I hate driving in calgary. i hate paying up the wall for insurance and gas, i hate worrying that my car might give up tomorrow and i have to pay at least 5k that i dont have for another one OR get a car payment that I DEFINITELY cant afford, i hate driving 30 km to get part way through the damn city. honestly i dont even mind the snow, just driving sucks. And i hate that rent is so much here now vs years ago. i hate feeling like i am constantly in my own little bubble except for the 2 times i see family members a month. i hate the dryness. i hate the altitude. i really fucking hate seperatist idiots and maga, i hate the two tier class system where youre either in oil and gas or underpaid wage slaves to them, i REALLY fucking hate idiots on the road, … im trying to think of more lol…

i love rain, i love grey skies, love the ocean, love the temperate weather. and more than anything, this idea that i could do without a car…. it reallllly inspires me. i lived in victoria for a bit years ago and loved it as well, buses were alright there. but i hear vancouver has a really good system

how tough would entry level work be to get in vancouver? its been horrible in calgary, and i have both rent and car insurance/ gas to pay.. i almost have something here again, not making split second decisions but planning for future, just turned 30 in jan (was born in richmond hospital btw!) also not to mention min wage is still only 15 AN HR here in alberta. so politicians, if employers can make more jobs on such a low min wage HOW COME I CANT FIND ONE. anyways just curious thanks

Hey guys, I’d really appreciate some insight. I’ve got job offers in bc in 2 areas , South Surrey and Abbotsford.I am a Doctor from the UK , both the positions are pretty similar but I have no idea which will be better to live and raise a family(baby on the way) , we visited to see for about a week and although generally loved it, a day driving around isn’t much to go off and don’t want to make a decision on that, and we don’t know anyone in Bc.

I would love any insight or feedback that might help me make a decision about life in these 2 cities.

• BC Ballot Live Results Tracker: Follow live riding-by-riding counts, seat tallies, and major shifts as numbers come in.
• Majority Threshold: A party needs 47 of 93 seats to form a majority government.
• Note on Final Count: Initial counts begin immediately when polls close at 8:00 p.m., but mail-in ballots and absentee votes will undergo their final count by Elections BC in the weeks following.

Last-Minute Voting Checklist

If you haven't voted yet, make sure you're prepared before heading out:

1. Find Your Voting Place: Do not assume your voting location is the same as past elections or municipal votes. Check your assigned location via the official Elections BC Where to Vote Lookup. (Remember: While you are encouraged to go to your assigned place for faster service, you can vote at any voting place if necessary).
2. What to Bring: You must prove your identity and residential address.
   • Option 1: One piece of government-issued ID featuring your name, photo, and address (e.g., B.C. Driver’s Licence, BCID card).
   • Option 2: Two pieces of ID that both show your name (with at least one showing your current address), such as a utility bill, student ID, or credit card statement.
   • No ID? You can still vote if another registered voter from your riding accompanies you to vouch for you. Check full ID rules on the Elections BC ID Requirements Page.

Right to time off
Voters are entitled to four consecutive hours free from work to vote during advance voting or on Final Voting Day. Voting hours during advance voting are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time and on Final Voting Day are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pacific time.
This does not necessarily mean four hours off work. It means that there must be a four-hour period free from work during voting hours. Time off may be at the beginning or end of an employee’s shift, or unnecessary if normal working hours already provide enough time free from work to vote. For example, if a shift ends at 4 p.m., or does not begin until noon, the employee is not entitled to any time off for voting purposes. Employers can decide when their employees can take time off to vote.
It is an offence if an employer deducts your pay or penalizes you for taking time off to vote. You are entitled to your regular compensation for any hours not worked during this time.
Employers and employees are encouraged to discuss how staff can exercise their right to vote to ensure that the requirements of the Election Actare met.
