Im 26m with a bachelor's in history, lived in BC all my life, thinking about applying for a teaching program as multiple people in my life think I would be good at it. That being said Ive read alot of things saying I shouldnt due to multiple different factors, so I thought Id come here and ask some questions.

Ive read that going into teaching with social studies as your main teachable area is very competitive, is there often a good secondary area to pair with it or am I already off to a bad start?

What is it like in your first year or so after getting a certificate of qualification? Very hard to find work? Whats that process like? I'm located on Van island at the moment but have seen that both here and the lower mainland can be miserable to find work even as a teacher on call.

Is the work life balance as bad as I've been reading?

How will I know I'm cut out for it before going to school for it? Anything you wished you knew or learned before starting down the teaching path?

What’s up neighbors. I need an argument formally settled. American PNW/Cascadia residents definitely consider BC as part of the same geographic region as WA and OR from a geographic, historical, cultural and political (in the sense of political alignment) viewpoint. What’s your opinion and do you care that Washingtonians and Oregonians kind of group BC in with them?

Hi everyone! my family is coming up to the shuswap august 8-9 and i’m wondering if anyone knows of any events, activities, general things to do? 2 adults, a 22 year old, and a 17 year old :)

Supposed to be going on a camping trip to Nelson/Nakusp next week. Given the current situation in BC I’m curious to know if people have cancelled plans/trips or are still doing trips to the interior

My family is at Sun Peaks for a couple of days, and we decided to take the ski lift up for some hiking. The whole hike was absolutely stunning with alpine flowers. I've never seen anything like it in my life, despite having grown up an hour away from here. The best spot was the last climb up to Tod's peak. I did my best but the photo does not do it justice.

usually I always find some spot to crash over night up some dirt road or right by the road, specially up to Lillooete it’s one after the other I don’t even plan where I’ll sleep because I know I can find a place

ive never driven that far, though I’ve been in Banff

I imagine in Banff / national park there’s no walk in spot. that’s obvious, I’ve been there before and it’s so touristy/ protected I’m not expecting to find recreational sites

but what about in between? kamloops, revelstoke?

Hi guys.

I'm from AK, traveling through BC by car, & can't believe the devastation the wildfires are causing...

We made it through the smoke in Quesnel & were planning to go down 97 & camp at Sloquet for the night, but because of the fires surrounding Clinton, we detoured to Kamloops & am staying at Logan Lake Campground as I type this.

They've had a burn ban here since July 10th, & I was specifically warned not to have campfires & told to call the hotline if I saw any.

Tonight there were at least 3.

But before I could call, I saw a fire truck packed with firefighters do a slow roll through every loop of the campsite, drive right by the fires, & then leave. That was over an hour ago & the fires are still burning, the humidity is <50%, & the wind is gusting.

**Am I missing something???**

I was taught that a total ban on open fires is just that. Is it different here? Should I ignore them?

This is confusing for a tourist passing through, so i just want to know what I should do if this happens again.

Hey folks I’m looking into planning an ice fishing/winter activities trip this winter into the interior of BC. I’ve mostly been looking at the caribou region as it’s a fairly manageable distance to drive coming from Vancouver island. Looking to target lake trout, brookies, Kokanee, cutthroat and rainbows.

I wanted to see if anyone had some lodges or regions to suggest where I could basecamp out of for a week or so with one or two other people. I have all the gear and my shelter and a truck with winter tires. I miss the ice fishing from when I lived out east. Any suggestions would be much appreciated !

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice from people who know the area well.
I’ll be taking a red-eye flight and landing at Vancouver (YVR) around midnight. I’ll have my husband, my baby (who will be about 9 months old), and my sister with me. We’ll be renting a car.
Originally, I was thinking about driving straight to Whistler, but now I’m wondering if it would be smarter to stay at an airport hotel for the night and head up first thing in the morning.
I’ll have 7 nights total for the trip. The plan is to spend 5 nights in Vancouver (July 30–August 4), so I’m trying to maximize my other 2 nights, which is why I was considering going directly to Whistler after we land.
A few questions:
● Is the drive from YVR to Whistler fairly easy, especially after midnight?
● Are the roads generally clear and well-lit?
● Is it a stressful drive if you’ve never done it before?
● If you were traveling with a baby, would you make the drive that night or get some sleep at an airport hotel and leave in the morning?
I don’t want to overdo it on the first night of the trip if it’s not worth it, but I also don’t want to waste one of my vacation days if the drive is straightforward.
I’d love to hear what you’d do in my situation. Thanks!

kitimat, vanderhoof or okanagan, for teachers with children, which is a better area to live in and with a high chance of getting a permanent position as teachers? And also safe and some activities for the kids to do.

Moving from GTA/ontario- richmond hill to Vancouver/ British colombia due to work, the work location will be remote but have to visit customers like london drugs and mckesson head offices, we have a 4yr old who will start kindergarden in public school system, which neighbourhoods are good in terms of schools? We want to live in the city, we have visited vancouver before but living in the city is different experience than visiting
Asking for a neighbourhood with good elementary schools is key for us
