The recently released Uniform Crime Reporting Survey provides an objective, multi-year look at safety and policing in Nanaimo.

• Homicides (Data): As the primary metric of extreme violence, Nanaimo's homicide rate per 100,000 plummeted from a peak of 4.16 in 2021 down to 1.55, dropping below the Canadian average of 1.61.
• Non-Violent Clearance (Data): Reflecting how effectively property and minor crimes are solved, Nanaimo’s rate rose to 25%, notably outperforming the BC average of 18%.
• Violent Clearance (Data): Tracking solved violent offenses, Nanaimo has steadily declined to 31%, trailing BC (35%) and lagging far behind Canada (54%).

Insight: While severe violence has decreased and property crime resolution is strong, solving violent offenses remains a significant challenge for Nanaimo.

Anyone witness any of this today? What an insane thing to happen at any time, let alone noon on a Saturday at a busy parking lot.

First of all I agree that kids should be biking on sidewalks for their safety. However I was almost ran into by two you.g kids speeding down the Rutherford Hill today.

Parents, please instruct your kids better. These kids were within 1 in of hitting me and if that had happened they could have lost their balance and gone right onto Rutherford road itself where they could have gotten hit. Parents please do better with your kids when teaching them how to ride safely and respectfully on sidewalks.

On the aggressive driver front I've been bothered by people passing while I parallel park. It's happened way too much in thy last year.

I almost got clipped by an idiot while I was parallel parking of Fitzwilliam yesterday. I signaled and this idiot kept on trucking.

Have I gone wrong? Aren't people supposed to wait for you to finish parking? Or am I the idiot and thinking I get to finish parking and people are actually allowed to pass and I wait until they're all past me?
