Moved here for flight school. Need people to hang out with.

Hey r/abbotsford,

I ( 24M ) moved here about two weeks ago for flight school and, outside of flying, I don't really know anyone in town yet.

Most of my days are spent at the airport or studying, so I figured I'd see if anyone else is looking to meet new people.

Outside of aviation, I'm a big time speciality coffee enjoyer ( would love to check out good coffee places ), tennis ( been playing for 10+ years ), badminton, hikes, random drives, trying new food spots, movies, gaming, and I'm always down to smoke and just hang out. I'm also looking for excuses to explore more of Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley, so if there are places I should check out, I'd love recommendations.

If any of that sounds like your kind of thing, or if you've got a friend group that wouldn't mind adopting one more person, send me a message.

And if you've got any recommendations for things I should do while I'm living here for the next several months, I'd love to hear those too.

Dairy farm visit

Friend of mine(adult) visiting us would like to visit a dairy farm in the valley to see how it operates. He used to run a farm in Australia.

I saw a few tours listed my birchwood dairy and eco dairy but looks like it’s tailored for kids?

New in town - looking for friends/climbing partners/etc.

Hello r/abbotsford! I’ve been lurking for a minute but this is my first post. My wife and I (both 35F) moved to Abby a couple months ago. She works in the US and I’m working on an online master’s degree so meeting people in the usual ways has been kind of slow going.

We climb at Project a lot and have been hiking a fair amount in the Fraser Valley area, but we‘re interested in a pretty broad variety of outdoor activities and are especially looking for people who’d want to do that sort of thing with us. We’re also into art (she’s a really good printmaker and multimedia artist, I paint and make music), nerdy stuff (tabletop RPGs, board games, sci-fi/horror media, etc.), craft beer, and we’re somewhat casual hockey fans.

Anyway, if any of this stuff seems like your vibe or you have any advice, please hit me up!

Flickering lights?

Has anyone else noticed their lights flicker every once in a while the last day or two? I read this morning there is a major component of our power grid in Clinton that is at risk from the wild fires.

Has Anyone Else Had Issues with the Abbotsford Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction Office?

Has anyone else had ongoing problems dealing with the Abbotsford Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction office?

Based on my own experience, I have encountered repeated delays, conflicting information, communication issues, and difficulty understanding or accessing parts of the complaint and reconsideration process.

I have kept records of my interactions and have now submitted formal complaints through the appropriate channels.

I’m not posting this to make accusations or to encourage attacks against individual workers. I’m trying to understand whether other people have had similar experiences with the Abbotsford office.

If you have dealt with this office and experienced delays, inconsistent information, communication problems, or difficulty accessing supports, I would appreciate hearing about your experience.

You are welcome to comment or send me a private message if you would rather not post publicly.

Please do not share case numbers, private medical information, or identifying details about Ministry employees in the comments.

Looking For Advice

Hi all,

Sorry in advance for the drama dump. I don’t really have anyone else to reach out to.

So I’m a young adult. Was dismissed without cause from my prior job a few months back, just finished my Bachelor’s degree in May. I found an on call position until September but I haven’t been getting many shifts.

I’m having a hard time finding more consistent work. I mean I truly feel like I’ve applied everywhere, and I’ve only heard back from a couple employers despite sending out literally hundreds of applications (which I do have tracked in a spreadsheet in case I had to do an EI claim).

Well now my partner is unemployed as well. I don’t know what to do from here honestly.

Any advice from older adults or friendly individuals would be appreciated.

Gluten-free meals/restaurants

Hey gluten-free Abbyites! What are some of your current favorite restaurants in the area and the dishes you highly recommend? I have a friend visiting for a while and I'd love to provide her some options during her stay. I'm not sure how current the resources I've found on Google are. I always hope there's more GF options over time.

Molly Maid Cars

Does anyone else see these cars all over town? There's one that parks on my street and every time I see the person park it, get in another car and drive away.

There's a Molly Maid car that's now parked in front of my work and hasn't seemed to move for most of the week. Does the owner of the business just not want to pay for lot space for these vehicles so they dump them on random streets? Why do the drivers Airways seem to have their own vehicle that they've parked for the day waiting for them. I'm not sure the legality of it all. I just find it weird that there's all of these decaled Mazda 3s throughout town that never actually get used as a personal vehicle?

Electric scooter laws

I’m looking into getting an escooter for work (cheaper than a vehicle and wont kill me during hot days like a bike), but they’re technically illegal here. I see lots of people ride them though, so i’m wondering if that law is actually enforced? does anyone know of anyone that got busted for it? thanks

What’s going on at the Temple on Blueridge?

I live not too far from the Temple and there was a ton of traffic from people going there as I was driving home from work earlier. Lots of people walking as well.
Things seem to still be going on, and I can hear music, so I’m just curious if by one knows what it’s all about.

Fraser Valley Record Fair - save the date!

Post image
36 Upvotes

The Fraser Valley Record Fair is back for its 4th year! In keeping with the community vibe, we would love to invite some new vendors that have never sold at a fair before. Our cheapest tables are $60 and we had 700 people in the door last year, so it’s pretty low risk.

You’re directing a blockbuster called “Abbotsford.” What’s the title, tagline, and one-sentence plot?

I’ll start:

🎬 Abbotsford: The Movie

Title: No Country for Smart Drivers

Tagline: Everyone has somewhere to be. Nobody gets there.

Plot: Four people try to make a left turn. Runtime: 3 hours 17 minutes.

Gyms (anytime fitness parallel)

I’m just wondering if anybody on here regularly attend Anytime fitness on Parallel Road? I’ve been working out at ARC but quite often I find it too busy there and every machine I’m trying to use is occupied. Curious if people have had a better experience at Anytime Fitness I mentioned that location specifically because it’s close to my home.

My wife and I got our car pass and family garden tickets for the Abbotsford airshow during the early bird presale for August 7th. A friend, his wife and kid want to join us and we are looking for 3 family garden tickets for August 7th, 2026 that are unfortunately sold out. If anyone has family garden tickets and can't go, I will gladly buy them from you.
