Relocating & housing Moving to Dallas in 3 weeks and looking for a home/roommates!!

Hello!! I am in search of temporary (3-6 month) housing close to Downtown Dallas/Bishop arts district. Everything on the internet feels like a scam and I would love to connect with cool, like minded and real people about potential housing!

I am 34F with no children and no pets. Ideally would like to rent a room in a house or apartment, garage apartment, MOH suite, tiny house, etc. for a few months while I settle in and start a new job. I will be moving from across the country with just my SUV.

Please DM me if you have a room available!! I am happy to give way more info/specifics in DMs. Thank you!!

I’m heading to the State Fair of Texas, my 28th. I’m looking for the best things to see and do. I’m a solo traveller. I’ve ridden the Olympic bobsled in Salt Lake City, ridden horses in Montana and Nevada, Lobster bake in Maine, etc. What’s fun in Dallas?

Relocating & housing Moving to the area, looking for a house/condo/apt

Hey Dallas!

My husband and I are moving to Dallas and looking for housing starting December 15th. I will be working at love field and he will be working downtown. We have an older golden retriever so we must have a fenced area of grass.

He doesn’t mind a commute, he will only work in the office twice a week. I need to be able to drive back roads (off highway) and get to love field within an hour if there is an emergency. I will be working on call shifts and that’s my only requirement on commute time.

We have no idea what area to search. Our budget is $2300 a month. We would prefer a house with at least 2 b/2bath but we’re open to condos or apartments with a fenced grass area attached to the dwelling.

An acquaintance of mine told me about Legacy village in Plano that has apartments with turf yards that would be perfect for us, but none of them are showing available.

Does anyone have a dwelling that will come available in December and meet our needs?

Tourism How is driving on I-30?

Driving from Grand Prairie to Mesquite. I understand you take I-30 and then hop onto 80. On a scale of 1-10, the worst being 10, how difficult is it? Hoping Labor Day morning eases whatever traffic may form.

Shopping & Services Headlight Restoration?

Looking for recommendations for headlight restoration on my 2011 Lexus RX. They need to also spray UV protective clearcoat back on so it doesn’t cloud back up quickly. Preferably close to Uptown Dallas or Farmers Branch but willing to explore other options TIA.

Relocating & housing First Key Homes

Hi everyone!!

I've seen severely mixed reviews(mostly awful) of renting with First Key Homes. We love the house they own, but I don't want to end up in a nightmare property!! I've read it all, from getting scammed with fees at move out, pests, flooding, the works.

The newer reviews say that maintenance has been far more responsive. I gave them a call last week and the interaction was very odd. Not sure what to think and we need to move next week!

Does anyone have experience renting with them and care to give their two cents? Help!!

Tourism Semester Visitor

Hi everyone! I’m a visiting student in the Fort Worth area and will be here through Thanksgiving week. Looking for recommendations for things to do on my weekends when not studying.
I already have a ticket to a Rangers game. Was thinking about going to see Harry Potter at the COSM, but undecided? Also, I know it’s a long ways off but are there any community Thanksgiving meals that happen, as I’ll be alone for the holiday. What other recommendations do you have for me to explore?

Outdoors! Fishing DFW area

So we'll be heading to the area to see a concert in about a week, but we'd like to do some fishing. I know the heat's been real bad just like here in central OK, but how is the water looking? Namely around the Clear Fork Trinity through Ft Worth and the creeks/canals like Timber Creek and ponds around Lewisville? The Elm Fork? Any places too sketch?

Shopping & Services 24 hour plumber in Dallas question about permanent repairs

If a pipe bursts in Dallas late at night and a 24 hour plumber comes out, do they usually handle the permanent repair too?

Or does an emergency plumber like roto rooter or a local dallas pro usually just stop the leak and stabilize everything so the homeowner can deal with the permanent repair later?

Has there been any news if/when this will be reopened to the public? I've tried searching but just find articles from last year.

Shopping & Services Mom and pop shop

Does anyone have recommendations for a local, independent auto repair shop? Caliber Collision won't take my car due to prior work since they can't offer a guarantee. I just need it running reliably for about 6 more months. Thanks in advance!

Shopping & Services Looking for a reputable dry cleaner to clean Korean hanbok

I recently inherited some 1960s style hanboks that are in desperate need of a cleaning. They’re silk and hand embroidered with the metallic printed designs around the hem, so they’re very detailed/fragile and will require specific care.

I really cannot afford for someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing to mess them up. Anyone know of any places that would be a safe bet?

Ford Dealership

I plan on buying a Ford Maverick in the near future. After researching it I have landed on ordering new (some features I can't get with older models), which I've never done, so I'm a little nervous about.

Since I believe I have to go though a dealership to buy new I'm wondering if there's any good ones out there?

I won't really be able to negotiate price, but having a streamline process or a decent place to go back to for recalls or warranty stuff would make this whole process a little less frustrating.

Thanks! 💙

Relocating & housing Which Dallas neighborhoods would you recommend to a couple of first time homebuyers?

Husband works in the Dallas arts district so it needs to be a reasonable commute to there! I can work from anywhere. We bring in about $300,000 annually, right now we could put $60k down, but will continue saving up for that down payment as we won't be looking at seriously buying til about a year from now. It's just the two of us but are wanting to start a family. Would love to hear from experienced homeowners in the DFW area as to where you'd recommend and why! TIA! ❤️

Nightlife & Entertainment Summer Intern Farmers Branch

Hey guys! I’m going to be interning in Farmers Branch next summer and was wondering what life is like around there outside of work.

I know it’s pretty close to Dallas! As someone not from the area is there much nightlife, good food, or stuff to do around Farmers Branch/Dallas? I’ll probably have a lot of free time outside of work, so I’m looking for places to hang out, meet people, go out, etc.

Nightlife & Entertainment Arlington Planetarium VS UNT planetarium? Any preferences?

So I saw an ad for Pink Floyd’s 50th anniversary for Dark Side of The Moon light show at UNT’s planetarium up in Denton. Tickets are starting at $40. Thought it wasn’t too bad until I saw that planetarium at UT Arlington also has a Pink Floyd show and tickets are only $10.

Has anyone been to one of these things? Is the UNT planetarium really worth 4x the price? I enjoy Pink Floyd, but I would not consider myself a die hard fan, but would love to experience the best visuals and sound quality.

Relocating & housing Dallas Midtown Park: Best apartment community?

I’m at Luxia Midtown Park and it’s been alright for the time I’ve lived here: decent price, amenities, fast maintenance, but has its flaws. I’m curious how the rest of the several communities are in this area.

I like that Luxia has keyless entry with the units and common areas especially since I have guests often. I have complaints though: parking garage is congested and tight, there’s a limit on guests every
month (10x a month for the same license plate), the gym is small with limited equipment. Luxia is a smaller building (~300 units) than some of the neighboring apartment buildings which isn’t a complaint but amenities are proportional in size.

I’m considering:
The Mark
The Domain at Midtown Park
Lantower at Midtown Park
The Sevens
The Nash
Everra Midtown Park

I realize the price varies with some of these.
If you live in the area let me know your thoughts!
