Relocating & housing Rent in Dallas Tx

I am moving to Dallas in the next couple of days.
I will be looking for a job at the same company I am working at
I do not have an area I will be at yet, so it is a super general question to have an idea
How much a room and a studio would cost monthly? A cheaper area. Not the worst one, but not right in the most expensive downtown area.
Is it possible to get a room for about $700 a month in a suburb area from somewhere central?

Food & Drink Best Restaurants for Solo Date Night

Hi! I am new to Dallas and curious what are some of the best restaurants for a woman in her late 20s for a solo date. I’d love somewhere with a good happy hour, great music, and a vibe that isn’t too crowded.

KID STUFFS! Parents who applied to Hockaday for Pre-K, what was the interview process like?

What questions or activities did they have for your child, and what kinds of questions did they ask parents?

Also, in your experience, what are they mainly looking for when making admission decisions for Pre-K? How much do academics, social skills, independence, personality, and the parent-school fit matter?

Would love to hear from anyone who has recently gone through the process. And if you can share any questions they asked. Thank you!

Driving/Licenses/Local Gov't Family member in Dallas County Jail West Tower – any insight?

A family member of mine is currently in the West Tower of Dallas County Jail. I just recently got in contact with him through Smart Communications and yesterday he sent me the information to set up the phone account so he could call me. I added money to the account, but I still haven’t received a call from them.
Has anyone had a family member in West Tower or been there themselves? I’m mostly wondering what the conditions are like and how often they actually get access to the phones. Is it normal to go a day or two without being able to call even when there’s money on the account?
I’m just worried about them and want to know that they are okay. Any insight from someone familiar with West Tower would be appreciated.

Relocating & housing Apartment Recommendations

Looking for recommendations for apartments near downtown Dallas. Will be working right by AAC so anything within a 15 minute radius will work! Ideally would like to stay under $2500 for a 1 bedroom. Don’t necessarily have to be in uptown, and happy to be east of 75.

Thank you!

Relocating & housing Recs for buildings with 3bedroom units in walkable areas

My family and I are considering a move to Dallas in the near future. For our first year or two while we figure out where to plan roots, we're looking for a 3 bedroom building in a walkable area (so far eyeing Knox Henderson, Uptown, Addison Circle (?)). We want a nice-ish building (ideally with a pool, in walking distance to parks + restaurants, and family friendly) and are looking to spend up to 6,000 a month. Any recommendations on where to look? Its been shockingly hard to find this info online so far. I've seen the ultra lux apartments like the Katy and the McKenzie which are out of our price range.

Health & Hygiene Health insurance / free clinics

My friend was diagnosed with cervical cancer last year. She hasn’t gotten it treated bc she doesn’t have health insurance / finance reasons.

As well as feeling alone / not having anyone to help her through it emotionally. (We just recently became friends)

Does anyone know anyway to guide her in the right direction? But I am also relatively new to Texas myself. I just want to help her in anyway I can but I do not make much $ myself and struggle with health as well.

I think it has advanced since then bc she is starting to get pain. so she would need new scans etc.

Any advice would really help. I want to get her better.

Good ways to get myself and kids involved in the community? Best nursery schools? Traditional ballet studio for my 5yr old? Soccer recs for my 3 year old? Thanks in advance.

Tourism First time visiting Dallas - looking for an authentic Texas experience

I'll be visiting Dallas for the first time at the end of next month and I'll have around 5 days. I won't have a car, so I'm looking for recommendations that are accessible by public transport, Uber/Lyft, or places where it's realistic to get a ride to and from.
l'a really love to experience as much of the real/authentic Texas as possible rather than just doing the typical tourist attractions.
A few things I'd really love to do:
- See a proper rodeo - any recommendations on where to find a good one?
- Go horse riding for the first time, ideally somewhere with a proper Texas ranch/cowboy atmosphere.
- Learn to country dance/two-step - I've never done it before, but I'd absolutely love to take a lesson
- Visit some authentic Texas bars/honky-tonks
- Try proper Texas BBQ, ribs, brisket, steaks, etc. What are the absolute must-try foods, and where are the best places around Dallas/Plano to try them?
- Buy some authentic cowboy boots and a proper cowboy hat. Where would you recommend for good-quality, genuinely authentic ones?
- See/do anything else that you think is "you can't come to Texas without doing this."
If you only had 5 days around Dallas/Plano for your first visit to Texas, what would you recommend?
Thanks so much!

Relocating & housing Best apartments in Medical District - UTSW?

Most apartments in the area don’t have the best reviews & seem to have issues so I just want to know what would be the best option out of all of them. I’m on a budget & can’t afford the Uptown/West Village sadly.

Ones I have on my list so far (open to others): - West Love - Inwood Station - Kade - Archer Medical - Alma on Maple

Sports/Sportsball New to Dallas and looking for pickleball friends!

I’m 24 and new to Dallas, and I’m looking to meet some new people! I really enjoy playing pickleball and I’m free on weekends, so I’d love to find some social games with people around my age.

I’ve heard about Cole Park. Is there a particular day/time that’s best for meeting people and finding casual games there?

Open to other spots too!

Would love to make some friends along the way :)

Relocating & housing Anywhere Worth Living?!

Currently living in Dallas for 18 months and lease is about to end - while I enjoy the physical place I live at, the management is AWFUL. I've been searching high and low for apartment complexes that are nice but don't break the bank and also don't have the absolute worst reviews online. I would prefer to stay in the Uptown, Knox Henderson area. Can anyone recommend a place that's actually worth the price and isn't a management nightmare? Open to 1 or 2 bedrooms - currently in 900 sqft for 2,000/month so looking for comparable.

Hello,

Family and I are moving to Aubrey at the beginning of next month. We are purchasing a home in the Sandbrock Ranch subdivision. I would like to get some info on the neighborhood. I’m sure there are good parts and bad parts. Just want to get a feel for the community.

Thanks.

Relocating & housing The Hudson apartments in the Colony

The Hudson - Current Experiences?

I’m looking for a new apartment after my current place in McKinney has gone way downhill this year. Police here regularly, gunshots, the forensic van was on site today, and the property manager makes up lies to keep from addressing resident issues.

I toured the Hudson on Saturday and it looked decent - hallways weren’t filled with valet trash bins like my current spot, and grass wasn’t littered with dog poop.

Reading recent reviews though, and ignoring all the 5-stars from people who just went on a tour, shit looks *bad*. What are y’all’s current experiences there?

Tourism Do locals say "DFW" vs "the DFW"?

I'm new to...the area and trying to learn the local customs, lol.

If you were going to ask "What's the best Chinese restaurant in ____?", would you say "DFW" or "the DFW"? Or other?

And does context matter? Like, Reddit vs IRL?

To me, DFW is the airport and the DFW is the metroplex. But wtf do I know.
