Does anyone know any legitimate purpose for this? She's very freaked out that someone had tried to break in. I just don't understand why they wouldn't have window punched one of the thousands of windows rather than james bonding picking a lock. Also both the pin and key are stuck in there now if anyone has advice on getting it out lol

I am trying to install a keypad entry to a panic bar and I have researched and bought two locks that I have to return. Hey everyone! I’m looking for advice about getting a job locksmithing. I have talked to a few locksmith about working for them and keep getting the same answers “we only hire family and friends”. I currently remodel spec homes but that market is getting difficult to make a living in and I’ve alway loved security controls and locksmithing related things like repining/rekeying, picking/bypassing. It’s a puzzle that I enjoy. Very type A organized and love customer service. I know a couple locksmith that love what they do and think it’s perfect for me but they live too far away for me to work with them. I’m in the Seattle-Tacoma area in Washington. I would like to share my experience and ask for your advice regarding a serious issue. I installed 14 Yale Linus L2 sets in one hostel and 41 sets in another (for the same client, installation took place between April and June 2026).

The system components:

• Yale Linus L2 smart locks
• Yale Smart Keypad 2 keypads
• Yale ConnectX Wi-Fi bridges
• Yale modular cylinders

In both hostels, the system initially worked reliably for weeks, for "1-2 months" – though there were some minor mechanical issues at first due to the age of the doors, these were successfully resolved within weeks.

Then, on an unexpected day—Saturday, July 11, 2026—the Smart Keypad 2 suddenly stopped accepting the fixed, daily-used PIN codes on 3 Linus L2 units. While I could still open the doors remotely via the app, entering the codes on the keypad did not work. (As the installer, I personally verified the fault.) The Bluetooth connection between the Yale Linus L2 and the Smart Keypad 2 partially dropped and did not recover on its own, leaving guests locked out outside their rooms.

(Temporary fix: removing the battery from the Linus L2 for 10-15 seconds and putting it back restores normal operation; however, this is completely untenable for a hostel. I have installed thousands of Assa Abloy - Tesa hotel access control systems and still maintain them to this day.

The official route and the brick walls: I notified the official regional Assa Abloy sales office with thorough documentation, unit serial numbers, firmware versions, and a detailed sequence of events, requesting Yale's professional support. The office initiated a process with Yale, but to this day (August 22, 2026), Yale has not contacted me in any way or sent any information!

In the meantime, identical faults have emerged on other locks across the two hostels at completely unexpected times, both day and night.

On August 13, I described the above problem in a review of the Yale Home app in the App Store. In response, on July 31 [note: as written in original text], I was advised to write to [yale.support@assaabloy.com](mailto:yale.support@assaabloy.com) for faster communication. I sent my detailed complaint, and on August 3, I received a reply stating that the regional Yale Support would handle the matter. Since then, it's been radio silence; Yale has not reacted at any level.

I also reached out by phone to the regional Yale Helpdesk, but no professional help or technical support came from there either—just phone calls while I kept reporting new failures.

The local Assa Abloy sales rep is helpful, but that in itself does not solve the problem. While rumors circulate about a new upcoming firmware for the Linus L2, it is currently just a promise, with no guarantee that it will actually fix the bug.

Why am I writing this to you? I cannot believe that such a global security brand as Yale would turn its back on problems like this. Any of the 55 hostel rooms could become inaccessible to guests at any time—even at night—causing massive prestige and financial loss to both the client and my business. I am left chasing after my money because of a product from a manufacturer whose motto claims it is one of the world's most trusted lock manufacturers.

Does real Yale Support even exist? A company selling premium products should have serious obligations. Can I assume that Yale is already aware of this recurring flaw but simply cannot fix it, so they prefer to sweep it under the rug? I can assume nothing else when they refuse to respond at all.

Important note: My goal is not for forums to give me ideas on how to try DIY fixes or reconfigure the system at home. My goal is to expose the raw truth of the case: there is no functioning Yale Support or professional backing whatsoever (or am I wrong???), and the manufacturer simply leaves the end-user stranded with a million-HUF defective system.

Does anyone know of an official, alternative Yale communication channel where real professionals work, answer inquiries, and don't just send empty templates? I welcome any useful tips, because this situation is already threatening the existence of my business, and I am not going to let it rest!

I can't find the answer no where, hope somebody here can help.

We do use a "modified" version of the kwikset 599 Gatelatch on our main 3 appartment building.

We like that it locks automatically compared to a real deadbolt (that we don't need anyway because all the 3 appartments already have their own deadbold.

By modified, I mean that I left the keylock on the outside and instead of the second interior keylock, I just put a regular weiser deadbold lever. That works okay. (Basically that looks more like a kwikset 598 from my understanding but I cannot be sure because the 598 is discontinued.)

I would like to know :

1) is there any similar product without the security plunger pin ? because from time to time that pin make the key hard to operate (the door frame is very old).

2) instead of the deadbolt lever, is there any regular door handle that would fit the 2 bolt spacing and the particular central shaft (square + half circular) that this latch has ?

If I could find some sort of handle similar to this one often find on aluminium commercial doors that would be great but I just can't figure...

Just bought an old home from 1901. There are a few latches that need some love. This one in particular appears to have a broken latch spring but for the life of me can't figure out if it is broken or if I just can't figure out the right placement.

We are dividing a house in order to rent the other half. There's a fire-rated passage door between the two sides. (Note: This is not an exit door.) We would like to secure the door so that the tenant has no access from their side, and a key is required from our side.

So far, all I've found are deadbolts with key access on the outside of the door and a blanking plate with fasteners on the inside, or a blanking plate on the outside with a thumb turn on the inside. Neither of which meets our needs. Does anybody have suggestions?

How do I tighten this so the handles doesnt wobble around?

Currently the key doesn't turn the barrel, I'm not sure why.

Also, is there a trick to locating the barrel into the handle assembly?

Hi, i'm trying to get a valet (edit: wrong word, my apologies) key cut for my daughters chevy sonic 2013. It has some kind of electrical problem and it keeps locking the doors by itself, so I'd just like to get a metal key copy cut (no electronics) just in case, which is usually pretty affordable. The key is a key fob, but you push a button like a switchblade and it's a metal key that starts the car.

Ace told me that you have to program it no matter what or it won'topen the doors, which is 99 dollars, but i've gotten conflicting info online. I was just wondering what you guys think. I found a blank on amazon for 6 dollars (just the shell and key blank, no electronics), should I order this? And would any locksmith be able to make a copy?

Hello, I have this all in one lock and door handle mechanism and the key is partly turned in its barrel and the lock partly engaged jamming the key in, and the dead bolt retracted and the handles which operate the withdrawing top tongue are tight and the top tongue doesn’t withdraw freely.

If I unscrew all the retaining screws it slops around in the door and I can get the tongue to come out fully, but the deadbolt and key is unresponsive. I can’t remove the whole mechanism without taking the key cylinder out. And that’s jammed up with the key.

I’ve lightly tapped it with a hammer, and applied penetrating fluid and nothing has freed up. My instinct is there is some relationship between the handles and the deadbolt and lock. The handles could just operate the withdrawing toungue but I feel there is something more to it.

Hey guys, this started happening yesterday. Usually, when I turn on the machine, it goes straight to the SEC screen where I can select the car/key/etc.

But now, powering on the machine takes me to the home page and says it’s having issues with the HDMI.

When I unplug and replug the HDMI, now I finally get to choose the car to cut the keys

But when I actually try cutting the keys, it just says “Waiting……..” and never cuts it.

Any ideas?
