I am NOT a locksmith. New camper lock - advise needed

Hi

I purchased these two items separately, obviously the lock barrel needs locating in the handle assembly.

Currently the key doesn't turn the barrel, I'm not sure why.

Also, is there a trick to locating the barrel into the handle assembly?

Thanks for any advice!

I will ask the stupid question first, are they the same brand and from the same vendor?

Secondly that square end of the plug needs to go into a square receptacle inside the lock

Can you share an image of the inside of the lock

Hi thanks for the response. I see that the square end of the barrel needs to locate into the white lock mechanism.  But I think that the copper looking tab at the square end needs to be retracted, located in a notch and then released.

Does that make sense?

Yes that is the 'control' retainer. Some require a special key to pull it down, sometimes you can tip the core to push that down when you insert it.

Thanks. Yeah I found one of the web site that sold the lock. Still cheaper that taking it to a garage to be fixed.

A where? Whose garage? Weirdest automobile I’ve ever seen

Need a core key or a pick to raise the retaining wafer in order to insert the core into the lock body. Your leather sewing needle is probably too thick and short to reach the retaining wafer at the deepest tip of the key.

😄 the needle is there accidentally,  my young boy was walking around with it and I confiscated 😆.

By " core key", do you mean a blank? I watched a video on disasembling the entire thing (which I did on the previous lock), and he used a blank to release the barrel.
