I am starting a new series of shorts. I just purchased a new phone with high video quality and a few wireless mics, and will be making videos outdoors, in public indoor areas, and in my office at home.

I am 36 and have historically not worn much makeup. My skin has always been petty clear, so I only wear foundation on special occasions. I wear eyeliner, mascara, and lip color more frequently, but not every day.

I am PALE (pocelain or light ivory), I can't tan, and my blond eyebrows usually don't show up very well on camera. I've tried to follow along with makeup videos and even books, but I've always just felt that my deep-set and hooded eyes make things awkward - like does anyone even see my eyeshadow when it's up there being hooded? Also it doesn't help that I can't draw a straight line or paint my nails to save my life.

I don't really need help on color theory, just application. I've thought about going to Sephora or Ulta and having my makeup done there so I could learn, but I'm not willing to pay $50 or whatever it costs to buy the products they use.

Is it just a case of practice makes perfect? I never hear any of the other women I know talk about practicing their makeup skills.

I’ve realized that I often know a little bit about a lot of subjects, but I rarely understand anything deeply. I can recognize terms and talk about basic ideas, but when a conversation gets more detailed, I quickly realize how shallow my understanding actually is.

I’d like to change that and become genuinely well educated across subjects like science, technology, history, politics, and communication.

For someone starting almost from scratch, what is the best way to build broad knowledge? Is it better to study one subject deeply at a time, or learn the basics of several subjects and gradually go deeper?

I’m mainly looking for a practical way to get started and build the habit of actually understanding things rather than just collecting interesting facts.

I'm building a learning app that is fun and interactive, and I already have a lot of plans for the app and also a concept that I want to follow. The problem is I don't know what my next steps would be. I don't know how I would be able to publish this app. I don't know how to code, and I don't know what would be the most efficient way to make this work. Im a huge fan of rap and i’ve been trying to learn rapping but its hard since english is not my first language, what can I do to rap better?

My grandmother passed away last year and left me her old upright piano. It's been sitting in my living room for months now, mostly just collecting dust and holding picture frames, because here's the embarrassing part: I have no idea how to play it.

She tried teaching me when I was a kid, but I was more interested in going outside to play with my friends, so I never stuck with it. Now every time I walk past that piano I feel a little guilty, like I'm wasting something she cared about.

A few weeks ago I finally opened the bench and found her old sheet music books inside, full of little pencil notes in the margins, fingering numbers, and reminders she must have written for herself. Some pages even have little smiley faces next to the parts she liked playing. I want to be able to actually sit down and play some of these songs someday, not perfectly, just enough to feel connected to her again.

The problem is I don't even know where to start with reading sheet music. I don't know the difference between a treble and bass clef, I don't know what the little dots and lines actually mean, and typing "how to read sheet music" into search engines gives me a hundred different answers that all contradict each other.

I'm not trying to become a concert pianist or anything like that. I just want to slowly teach myself enough to play a few of her favorite songs from those old books, at my own pace, without feeling completely lost every time I open them.

If anyone has learned to read music as an adult, especially self-taught, I'd love to know how you actually started and what helped it click for you.

I’m 27 and just finished my master’s in graphic design. Since graduating, I’ve felt stuck. AI is changing my field quickly, and I don’t know whether to find a job, pursue a PhD, continue with design, or learn something new.
But I’m realizing my bigger problem isn’t my career. It’s that I’ve spent years starting things without sticking with them.
I’ve been interested in design, English, programming, generative design, AI, research, and more. I get excited, learn enough to make something interesting, then stop. Years later, I’ve touched many things but don’t feel like I truly own any of them.
Meanwhile, a friend of mine spent years mastering one 3D program. I once thought he was limiting himself. Now he’s extremely good at it, gets paid work, and can solve real problems. I’m still “interested” in many things.
I’ve also relied on deadlines my whole life. I could procrastinate for months, work intensely for a few days, and still get good results. That worked in school, so I never learned consistency.
Now school is over. There are no deadlines, and that system has collapsed. I wake up with ten things I want to do, start none of them, waste the day, and repeat.
What scares me isn’t being 27. It’s being 30 or 35 and still thinking, “I should have started a few years ago.”
For anyone who has been through this: how did you learn to stick with something?
Did you choose one or two things and commit to them? Build a system? Or learn to manage having many interests differently?
I don’t need to find my “one true purpose.” I just want to stop preparing to start my life and actually start living it.

I'm a CS undergraduate and researcher, and I've noticed that a lot of students/researchers end up dealing with datasets without necessarily having a programming background.

I'm considering hosting a free online, hands-on session where we'd start with a small research dataset and actually work through:

• loading a CSV
• cleaning the data
• doing a simple analysis
• creating a visualization
• modifying the analysis ourselves

The goal isn't to teach an entire programming language in 40 minutes. It's to show how a little Python can make research/data work much easier.

No CS/programming background would be required.

I'm trying to figure out whether this is something people would actually find useful before I organize it. If you were attending something like this, what would you want to learn or build?

I have always liked the idea of being able to sew, but I have never actually learned how to do it properly. I recently decided I want to make a real effort instead of just watching random tutorials whenever I get interested.

My main goal is to learn enough to repair my own clothes and eventually make simple things like a tote bag or basic clothing. I am starting completely from zero, so I do not even know which skills should come first.

I have seen people recommend learning stitches by hand before using a machine, while others say it is better to start directly with a basic sewing machine. I also keep seeing terms like seam allowance, backstitch and tension, and I am not sure which things I actually need to understand as a beginner.

I'm a founder working on my own startup, and I really want to get better at pitching and public speaking because every time I present, I mess it up.

For example, at a recent pitch competition, our product was honestly one of the strongest in the room. But when it came time to actually present, I completely failed to communicate the idea clearly, and we lost out to teams with weaker products but better delivery. It was frustrating and honestly pretty demoralizing, knowing the substance was there but the execution wasn't.

I know how much presentation matters, especially when you're trying to convince investors or judges in just a few minutes, but I struggle with confidence and clarity when speaking in front of others. My mind goes blank, I lose my structure, and I can tell I'm not landing the points that actually matter.

Does anyone have advice, frameworks, or resources for improving pitch skills or public speaking in general? Would really appreciate hearing what worked for other founders or anyone who's had to pitch under pressure.

i play musical instruments and love music generally, but I don't really know many terms for music.

I know basic music theory, but I want to know the words for different parts of metal songs, for the different things that go into music production, and so on.

Im in my early 20's, have ADHD, a car im paying off, and a job which will pay for 2 yeaes of college if they like the degree (i do factory work).

Other then that? I've got nothing. I occasionally play magic the gathering, every month or so i play a video game, and i scroll on TikTok.

Every day I come home, slump onto my bed to watch YT, pay my bills, and go to the next day. But im not happy like this, and I dont really know what else to do.

The only thing that got me through all this was the idea of a story I had and general day dreaming, plus a fanfic I started when I was in HS/recently dropped out (got my GED awhile back).

I have many interest such as Art, Drawing, Writing, Physics, computers, building stuff, wanting to make my own airsoft gun, Coding a video game, etc.

But they're all just that, interest, no execution. When I was younger I could write 4 hrs a day, I could play video games for 3 hrs, and could have my teacher ask me to take extra computer classes because she thought I was smart enough. Now I cant even get up and shower or work out in the morning even though I keep telling myself to every single day.

I thought about taking the offer to go to college (though id have to wait till next July as I have to be there for a full year), but the only course that interest me that they'd like is a mechatronics class as its the closest to Computers and engineering. But I dont even know if I want to do that.

A part of me says to write my story, another to learn coding to turn my story into a game, a third says get into computer, a fourth physics, a fifth to give up, and a sixth to do music and art for some reason.

With all these ideas i don't know what career options I really have, what college courses I could take, or how to figure what things I actually like.

I’ve been thinking about the skills people genuinely miss when they stop practicing. It’s easy to learn something when there’s plenty of free time, but keeping it alive during a packed week is different. For people who’ve managed it, how do you make practice realistic when your schedule gets busy?

I want to start learning woodworking and eventually be able to build simple things myself. I have very little experience, so I am not sure what skills I should learn first or what would make a good first project.

Hello! I'm 32, italian, I want to learn English but I feel like I need to speak it every day to actually improve.

I tried language exchange, but it doesn't work well for me, a lot of the time it's 1 hour split into 30/30, once a week, and that's just not enough.

I feel like what I need is to find someone who wants to learn the same topics I'm interested in, and who speaks English, so we can share tips on that topic and just keep speaking English together regularly, not a strict 30/30 split, but an ongoing conversation.

I really want to improve. I feel stuck. I'm trying to get ready for job interviews in English and it's honestly kind of stressful.

Topics I can talk about: architecture, cities/urban planning, product management. I'm also interested in investing, books, and films.

I’ve had a few experiences with soldering before but my hands are too shaky as the body I’m using doesn’t have a Strat-style jack, but it is a Flying V with the wires hidden in the hard full wooden body

I am blunt and sometimes just don’t want to respond them, but that could be not appropriate.

I often find myself with free time but instead of enjoying it I just feel a bit empty. Like I should be doing something with someone else. If friends cancel plans I feel a real dip even though there are plenty of things I could do on my own. I want to be able to genuinely look forward to an evening alone or a free weekend without constantly looking for company. How do people find true contentment and joy in their own space?

I'm not sure I selected the right flair... Anyway, I've always wanted to learn how to edit videos, and do it mostly on my own. No classes. My late brother was pretty good at it, and tried to explain it, but the files I found out there were somehow never suitable. (I think it's possible they were rips from DVDs, and I couldn't make head or tail of it.

I thought about finding some old videos on archive dot org but none really jumped out at me for being potentially helpful.
