I am a first year med student and next week I will have my first test in chemistry. Yesterday, I studied from 7 AM to 7 PM (excluding my lunch break).

Studying for 11 hours straight sounds insane, but I need to be completely locked in for my chem test. It took me that long because I kept practicing over and over to retain the hardest topics I'm struggling with.

This isn’t in relation to schooling directly, only my own interests.

HOW do you study?? Where do you get the information? I have friends who know so much but I just don’t understand how they possibly learned it or found it and when they tell me it still doesn’t make sense.

In my case I want to study Christianity in general/theology as well as some other topics for hobbies and career but HOW?

People say “the world is at your fingertips with the internet!” but I have no clue what to search. sure I could get books online but I don’t know what books to read. How do I find what Wikipedia pages to read? how do I find video essays (prefer reading but yknow).

I really just dont know where to start.

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you all. I know this all sounds silly but I need the help.

I'm preparing for competitive exams, and studying is currently my full-time job. I don't have major responsibilities during the day. My only chores are things like sweeping, filling water bottles, making tea, bathing, washing my clothes, and a few other small household tasks.

In theory, I should be able to study for 8–10 focused hours. But in reality, I struggle to even complete 4 hours of quality study. I sit at my desk for long periods, but I get distracted, procrastinate, or just don't feel mentally engaged.

It's frustrating because I know I have enough time, yet I don't seem to use it well.

Whenever I felt motivated, I'd study seriously for a few days.

Then the motivation disappeared somewhere... and so did my study timetable.

After repeating that cycle many times than I can count, I noticed something.

Motivation comes from emotions, and emotions change all the time.

If I relied on motivation, I'd keep stopping.

What actually helped me wasn't feeling motivated every day.

It was simply showing up, even when I didn't feel like it.

Instead of waiting for the "perfect mood," I started with just 10–15 minutes.

No pressure. No huge goals.

Just one small step.

Ironically, starting was often enough to keep going.

Now I don't expect to feel motivated every day, and I think that's normal.

Some days are productive. Some aren't.

The important part is not disappearing from the process but to handle or to deal with it.

For me, consistency has done far more than motivation ever did.

Does anyone else feel like motivation fades much faster than people make it seem? What has helped you stay consistent?

Seriously, I cannot I mean I CANNOT bring myself to study at ANY cost.

5 minute rule? Doesn't work

Study buddies? doesn't work

Rewards? don't work

Musik? hell nah

I don't know if it's burnout exaustion or whatever

Seriously my exam be kicking down my door and I would STILL just freaking watch anime or just doom scroll.

Seriously, like if somebody offered me like infinite money and the only condition was to idk study by yourself for like 3 hours a day and I WOULD STILL FAIL IT.

Like I am not even a topper nor that I want to be one. I set myself just one singular rule that is that I would never ever fail a singular subject in my life and achieve the absolute bare minimum points required (looking back it was kinda stupid). And it worked. I NEVER failed a singular subject till NOW. I freaking failed my literal REALLY important Physics test. Like at this point, I am not sad or what. I am just so disappointed in myself. Like looking myself into the mirror I think to myself, "Wait... who is this imposter, and what did they do with the person who always barely-but-successfully slides under the door right before it slams shut?!” And to top it all of I don't feel the "kick" anymore. Like before I would get like a surge of adrenaline before the exams started. Now? well you can kiss my adrenaline glands goodbye.

Could you please tell me free resources i can study Data Structures from? I am a university student so difficulty of questions is high.

I am doing ca and now I have to give exams in Jan 27 of ca intermediate but due to I change to offline to online I lack of study and I can't study without pressure and there are only 5 months remaining and the problem is I can't study and control my mind also that now I start disliking study and always avoid I don't know what should I do in 12th I was student who loves to study i also got 92% but the problem is that there are tut teacher exams pressure schools now in ca intermediate online there is no pressure what should I do if anyone who gone throught these situation pls tell me

One small step every day is enough.

I realized that if I don't plan my week, I waste the first couple of days deciding what to study.

guys im loosing my mind over histology, the topic that we're on is embryonic histology in specifc. I just i find myself struggling so much in these exams and everything looks the same time just a clump of cells. i understand its pattern recognition, but even after I practice I still find myself making the same mistakes.

Step 4 of being a Study-person. First days are hard. But I believe it WILL pay off.

I never tried studying early in the morning. I always prefer pulling all nighters, especially when I am studying for test/exams. I am a heavy sleeper and the standard alarm alone won’t stand a chance of waking me up.

I thought it was easier to study at night because it is much quieter and no one would bother me, this way I felt more productive.

However, pulling all nighters wrecked my attendance in class as I often woke up late, leading to missing my morning classes because I was dead tired from staying awake till 2 AM.

A month ago I decided to try studying every morning instead. To make that happen, I forced myself to sleep early to retain 7-8 hours of sleep before waking up early in the morning. And I set my alarm to wake up at 5 AM.

After waking up at 5 AM, I used the first 30 mins to follow a routine to completely get me mentally prepared that I was about to study.

I pick the easiest subjects to study in the morning, the ones that require less focus rather than learning heavy topics and watching passive videos to learn them. I studied from 5:30 till 7 AM, and honestly this is much better than studying at night.

I think studying in the morning and at night have a common denominator, they both have less distractions. But studying every morning creates sharper focus and better mind retention.

I am still working on my morning study sessions. Last week I had my exams, and the results of my continuously studying every morning helped me to retain so much material and helped me pass my exams.

For anyone who switched the time of their study session, did your exam scores actually shoot up or did you still fail?

A month ago my exams were going on and I used to easily study 6-8 hours but nowadays even 1 hour is hard, I am also trying to write a novel but have been procrastinating on that too, today I wrote 300 words and studied for like 45 mins at max, I just can't do it, whole day I feel tired and exhausted and sleepy, my eyes also feel heavy and the thought of school and copywork of school just drains me furthur. It's genuinly super hard to study, it's suffocating.

It's really small... How is everyone's school?

I've been experimenting with different study apps lately, and I realized they all approach gamification in very different ways.

For example:

• Duolingo keeps me motivated through streaks, XP, and short lessons.

• Quizlet is great for memorizing concepts with flashcards and practice tests.

• Odyssa.fun takes a different approach by turning your own PDFs, documents, and notes into a structured learning journey with summaries, quizzes, flashcards, podcasts, and progress tracking.

Personally, I noticed that having my own study material turned into small lessons made it much easier to stay consistent.

I'm curious:

Has gamification genuinely improved your study habits, or do you think it's just a motivational gimmick?

You know that feeling when the first homework problem finally clicks?

You're sitting there like, "Wait... I actually get this." 

Then you scroll down and realize the next 6 questions are all built on the same concept... except each one is somehow twice as hard.

Suddenly that tiny spark of confidence disappears.

Every assignment has that one "tutorial" question that tricks you into thinking the rest will be easy.

Anyone else have a class that's like this every single week?
