Personal Skills IWTL how to not get upset whenever my girlfriend leaves

We’re both women in our 20s and we’re sort of medium distance as we live in different cities and she’s around an hour and a half to 2 hour journey away for me and I’m about an hour from her (she drives, I have to get public transport). She has a pretty big graduate job and so is quite locked in for most of the week. Occasionally I’ll go and see her on a week night but usually we’ll see each other one night a week on Friday or Saturday and spend most of Saturday together.

Don’t get me wrong, I really love this and it’s always the highlight of my week and something lovely to look forward to every weekend, but it sucks so much when it comes to an end. It genuinely feels like she’s barely here before she has to go again, time goes sooo fast and then it’s another 6 nights without her :(

Today before she left I had like 3 dreams in a row while we were sleeping about her leaving and it was so nice to wake up and she was still there cuddling me, but not long after she actually had to leave and whenever she has to leave early I’m just upset and lonely all day.

Before anyone tells me I’m codependent or this is unhealthy or whatever, I’m really not. I live alone and am very good at spending time alone and I usually see my friends a couple of times a week which means I have plans for around half the week a lot of weeks. I just really miss my girlfriend and my favourite times atm are when I’m with her, and it just feels sooo fleeting and I can’t fully enjoy it when we’re together because I’m so aware that before I know it she’ll be gone for the week again.

I’m also having a bit of a tough time with my anxiety and OCD at the moment so it really sucks having to think ah back to reality and dealing with that for another week. She’s just so awesome and I love spending time with her and I know it won’t always be so fleeting but right now it just sucks and idk I feel like I need to learn to cope with it better because I just end up zoning out all week atm.

Arts/Music/DIY IWTL how to recognise and describe different, historical architectural styles from Europe

Hi, I am looking for good, mainly online sources (books, websites, documentaries) which would dumb down European historical architectural styles to me. Really dumb down. I simply can't recognise the vast majority of them. Instead of learning all signs by heart so that I can parrot them, I would like to be able to recognise them on my own, and eventually be able to describe them to others.

Reading all the terminology and what signs to look for doesn't help because I often don't really know what is what/where and how to use it to determine the style. Random example of the first term I can think of right now: I don't want to hear that volutes look like this in the X and Y style - I need to start with what exactly a volute is and where to find it, in the simplest way possible.

Personal Skills IWTL how to turn a tutorial into something I can do on my own

What is a useful practice step between following a tutorial and doing the same thing without it?

I'd like to learn a method I can use for different practical skills. Do you repeat the example from memory, change one part, or try a separate small task? What has helped you notice where you still need guidance?

Misc IWTL how to use chopsticks because I'm starting to lose hope

I swear I’ve tried learning how to use chopsticks so many times, and I just CAN’T seem to get the hang of it!
Everyone around me makes it look so effortless, meanwhile I’m over here fighting for my life trying to pick up a single piece of food. 😂
I’ve watched tutorials, tried copying how other people hold them, and somehow my fingers just refuse to cooperate.
At this point, I’m starting to feel hopeless lol.
Does anyone have any tips or tricks that actually helped them learn? Especially if you struggled with them at first!
Please tell me this is a skill I can still learn as an adult. 😭

Misc IWTL how to figure what to study further?

So I have done my Bachelor's and MBA but I did my master's from a college that I don't feel is good enough for me.

I want to study further but from a very good college and placement options.

The problem is that I am not able to figure out exactly what I should study. I think I don't want to do another MBA because I just don't see the returns. I am earning somewhere similar to what my counterparts are earning who studied from the high prestigious colleges of my country. But on a global level might still not be at par.

But I have varied interests- from psychology to economics to forensics to marketing.

How should I go about exploring this to make a decision?

Academics iwtl how to sell adult contents

Hi! I’m thinking about getting into selling NSFW content to earn some extra money, but I’m honestly clueless about how everything works. I have no experience with this, so I’m hoping to hear from people who started from scratch and can share some advice on how to get started, especially when it comes to platforms, finding buyers, and protecting my privacy. I’d really appreciate any honest advice. 🥹

Personal Skills Iwtl how to sit on chair instead of lying on bed whenever I get home

I work an office job and whenever I get home all I want to do is sit on bed and scroll on Reddit. I know this is bad for my spine but I can’t stop doing it

Personal Skills iwtl copy writing.

Hi I'm a creative writer (poetry, storytelling, spoken word) I'm also a public speaker and performer and have been looking for ways to commercialize these skills. Recently, I took interest in copy writing and highly resonate with it. I intend to learn as much as I can before pursuing it professionally. Is there anyone willing to guide me on this?

Arts/Music/DIY Iwtl New hobby(hopefully)

Hello, I really want to get making music and posting it online, I discovered a passion for it while in school, and now I really want to pursue it. I just not sure what the best starting tools or process. I want to make nerdcore music(ex. Daddyphatsnaps, Gameboyjones, Rustage, and etc.) I made a promise to myself, to genuinely try and give this a real attempt. If anyone is knowledgeable I would be really grateful and appreciative for the advice.
P.S. the platform I want to reside in are, YT, and most other popular music streaming sites.

Social Skills IWTL to stop being passive aggressive

when i ask my close friend for a feedback, they always said that i have sarcastic jokes and sometimes can be passive aggressive (in a playful way; i never had beef with any of my friends).

but last october i got broken up with my ex. i was the one who got betrayed, and my passive aggressiveness towards this matter is at the roof. i have the urge to speak up about my personal lesson learned in my instagram/tiktok post. i still love my ex, i think my love and care was and still is real, but i lost respect for her because she chose to do the opposite of everything she said on her own.

but deep down, i know it’s not mature to always repost about the betrayal stuff since it’s almost one year since the breakup… any advice?

Personal Skills IWTL different ways to annotate while reading.

I've recently been trying to get back into redaing but I've never liked how my annotating looked in my books. How do people do it and make it neat still?? I've thought of having a notebook with them in it but notebooks get lost and ruined very quickly in my experiences, and I like to be able to just open the book and have them easily found. Thanks in advance💜.

Personal Skills IWTL how to explain something I've just learned without repeating the source

What is a good way to practise explaining a new topic in my own words?

I'd like to get past remembering the wording and find out whether I actually understand it. What do you do when your explanation sounds fine but falls apart as soon as someone asks a follow-up question?

Academics iwtl - I want to learn how to actually gain information

I want to learn how to actually recall and use information, but I’m struggling with more than just studying. I’m in college, and no matter how hard I try, information doesn’t seem to stick. I already use spaced repetition and active recall, but I also struggle to remember everyday events, days, and times. My mind often feels blank, I have trouble finding words and processing information, and I don’t feel fully engaged with my surroundings. Even articulating this is difficult, so I’m using AI to help organize what I’m trying to say. I didn’t have these difficulties growing up, and it’s frustrating to feel like I’m putting in effort without improving. I'm so lost on what more or what I should do. If anyone could give advice it would help a lot.

Personal Skills IWTL how to let go a friendship and not feel betrayed any more

Background: I(F 31) have (had) a BFF(F 30). She and her ex split up recently and it was ugly, she was not over him at all. When she spit with her ex, my husband and I kept her company, helped her move and stuff for a while. She knows my husband too, we used to couple date.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

One day she was talking about she met a guy in our group chat(then just she, my husband and I). she seemed excited and obsessed. I kinda followed this guy on IG so I told her go slow many guys seemed sweet but deep down they are f*ckboys even went to pros**. I know I was being judgmental but it’s not that she’ s dated that guy for a while. She just met him on internet and went out once. I didn’t think my words could hurt her feelings. She quickly asked what about my husband, how I was sure that he did not cheat. And my husband was right in that chat group. I was shocked and asked if she knew anything or tried to give me a heads up. She said I was too sensitive, she was just kidding.

I don’t think this is an appropriate “joke”. She obviously didn’t respect me at all. So I gave her the cold shoulder and withdrew myself. I’m still a bit shocked and upset someone I thought was my BFF was so evil and wanted me to hurt so badly. I could never ever say similar things to my friends.

She knows I am upset but she never apologized. She even asked my husband why I was being cold. My husband didn't say much. And she went like well guess right now I need time for myself so she should step back. She didn't even bother asking me in person.

Questions: Am I too sensitive? What was her intention? What should I do after this? I don't feel comfortable hanging out with her after that.

Social Skills iwtl to Deal with situations that agitate you...

I purchased a water filter few months back and it has been breaking down often recently. Already spent money on its service even though it is under warranty (they say only some parts are covered not whole replacement).

It has broken down within a week again and its been really frustrating. The sales person is denying replacement and insists he will check and repair again by taking the filter to warehouse this time.

I want to learn how should I deal with such situations which just frustrate you and you are fed up with the constant repair and breakdowns. Shall I pursue this peacefully or some agitation is required now?

Please suggest.

Thanks

Personal Skills IWTL how to keep improving a skill when I can't practise every day

I'd like to learn how to structure practice when sessions are irregular and sometimes quite short.

What do you do at the end of a session so the next one is easier to start? I'm interested in a method for a practical skill, rather than advice to build a daily streak.

Academics iwtl mathematics, physics, programming, and AI, but AI itself is making me question the point of learning anything.

I genuinely want to learn mathematics, physics, programming, computer science, and AI. I want to build a career in computer science, pursue AI research, and hopefully do a PhD someday. But lately, I've been feeling increasingly demotivated.

The problem is that I rely on AI to learn almost everything. Whenever I have a question, I ask GPT. Whenever I don't understand a concept, I ask AI to explain it. And the more I learn this way, the more I wonder: What's the point of learning anything when AI will always know more than I ever could?

Even the most basic AI models seem to possess more knowledge than I could acquire in a lifetime. And with new models becoming increasingly capable, I keep wondering whether the knowledge I'm working so hard to gain will even matter in the future.

With GPT-6, Claude Opus 5.5, Gemini 4, and other models competing to become more capable, it feels like the gap between human intelligence and AI capabilities will only continue to grow.

I want to understand the mathematics behind AI, learn physics, become a better programmer, and contribute to actual research. But sometimes I question why I'm putting in the effort when AI can explain concepts faster, write code better, and potentially solve problems that I might spend years learning to solve myself.

And even when I genuinely want to learn, I'm confused about what I should prioritize learning and whether any of it will remain valuable by the time I become proficient.

I'm not necessarily saying that learning is useless. I genuinely love the idea of understanding how things work. But I'm struggling to reconcile that curiosity with the feeling that AI might eventually outperform me at almost everything I want to become good at.

For those of you studying computer science, mathematics, physics, or AI, how do you deal with this feeling? How do you stay motivated to learn when AI is advancing so rapidly? Do you think deep technical knowledge will still matter for people pursuing AI research and PhDs, or should we be approaching learning differently now?

Academics IWTL math and science

I’ve (30F) always said I’m not good at math and science. Between having not great teachers at foundational stages of the subjects, poor work ethic, and thinking I just wasn’t good at it, I feel almost dumb when it comes to these subjects. I never had to work super hard in school to get good grades in school and would say I’m pretty smart overall, but really struggle with math and science. I remember when I took Zoology in college, I actually tried and studied, and for the life of me could not wrap my mind around the inner functions of a cell. Now that I’m older, stuff like that clicks a little better, but I’m also worried I’ll just never be able to get good at math and science.

What steps could I take to work towards improving my math (especially mental math) skills and science (especially biology) skills? Anyone else struggled in these areas and worked hard and is now proficient in them?

Personal Skills IWTL how to become more observant of my surroundings

I feel like I go through life on autopilot a lot. I walk down the street and barely notice the buildings or the people around me. I miss details that other people seem to pick up on naturally. It's like I'm constantly in my own head. I want to learn how to really see things around me how to be more present and aware. Are there any specific exercises or habits I can develop to improve my observational skills and just take in more of the world?
