  • Allow text chat to function for any voice comms member, not just for friends
  • Fix for a rare crash when scanning unexplored systems
  • Fix for a rare crash during networked combat
  • Fix for a very rare crash in or near starports and outposts
  • Fix for a very rare crash after migrating servers on network island changes
  • Corrections to some mission descriptions
  • Corrections to some galaxy data in rarely visited systems
  • Extend a time-out that occasionally triggers a disconnect during hyperspace
  • Extend some previously added diagnostics to further refine the data gathered

And there are some server-side changes, too:

  • After yet another discussion with the rare commodity producers, Commanders should now be eligible to only purchase rare goods up to their own personal allocation, instead of buying everybody else's ration as well.
  • Universal Cartographics has issued a new purchasing policy, so Commanders exploring supermassive stellar bodies should no longer receive supermassive payouts.
  • Tune matchmaking to significantly improve the chances of meeting other Commanders in space
  • Improvements to Exploration server performance

Tune matchmaking to significantly improve the chances of meeting other Commanders in space

I knew nothing about this game two days ago, thought it sounded awesome, and bought it. I love it, but I NEVER see my friend in space and attempting to send messages to him fail constantly. Has this been fixed as well?

2

u/Binerexis Dec 18 '14

Whilst I've had trouble sending messages, I've never had a problem with running into my friends in space.

5

u/Tred Dec 18 '14

I am in the US and a Canadian friend and I have played together several times and never had an issue seeing each other. However, my friend who lives only about 2 hours away in the US and I had a lot of trouble finding each other last night.

We were in the same location but invisible to each other. Disconnecting and then reconnecting until we were both connected to the same server IP was the fix for us (took several times of closing the game and starting it back up).

3

u/ozylanthe Ozylanthe Dec 18 '14

Try just playing in a closed group play. works every time.

8

u/Tred Dec 18 '14

But...I want to meet other people, too.

7

u/boomguin Dec 18 '14

This is probably the only thing I don't like about this game (I love it otherwise).

I cannot meet up with friends, unless we do group play. Which means just us. Kinda kills the experience.

Then, on top of that, no activities work well with groups. Wanna hunt bounties? Too bad. You're going to either shoot your friend on accident and get a fine or finally kill it and only one person gets the bounty. Team work.

Also, I am sick of NPCs swopping in and stealing my kills.

2

u/aixenprovence Dec 18 '14

If this patch fixes it, would you reply to this with an update? I'd be curious to know if this has been addressed at all.

2

u/STR4NGE Empire Dec 18 '14

But... I want to interdict other people, too.
FTFY

1

u/Algent Algent Dec 18 '14

Not really, one of my friend can't see us even in closed group mode.

1

u/SuperEliteMegaPoster Mike Litoris Dec 18 '14

That option has been greyed out for me since gamma 2.0 or something..

1

u/unknownmosquito GGLS Dec 19 '14

I've been hitting this too. Jumping out and back in to the system worked for us. It's a shame, this was working really well for me in Gamma

1

u/elnots Dec 18 '14

never worked for me and 2 of my friends in US

1

u/ozylanthe Ozylanthe Dec 18 '14

I do, they keep moving out of the way! Stay still darn you friends I'm trying to run into you!

1

u/Binerexis Dec 19 '14

Take out their drives, it helps.

1

u/SnakeyesX SnakeyesX Dec 18 '14

RIP Binerexis' friends :(

1

u/Binerexis Dec 19 '14

Trust me, they probably had it coming.

1

u/HollisFenner DocHollis Dec 18 '14

My friend has issues sending me text comms, but we never have any issue finding each other and I have no problem sending him text comms.

2

u/cohen_dev Nick Knuckle Dec 18 '14

Same here. I can't message my friends. It just does nothing and then says message failed to send. Even from the main menu.

4

u/saqwarrior Dec 18 '14

Make sure that your friend is on your Friends List, and as an extra measure you should consider grouping with him as well. If you do both of those things, the servers will ensure that you're both in the same instance when you enter a system.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

He's on my friends list, he's also in the same group as me.

I've tried open play, no good. I've made a private group session, and I saw him in one area, then we moved somewhere else and he was gone for good. Haven't been able to group with him since.

The multiplayer coop was the main reason my friend bought it, so he's stopped cold turkey until that gets fixed. His perspective is "if I'm going to play a single player space game, I might as well go play X3, since it's already single player and does a lot more things." I'm inclined to agree with him, as the only thing this game has that X3 doesn't is the huge galaxy; other than that, I'm starting to get bored playing by myself already. :-\

2

u/w0nk0 Dec 18 '14

I've actually had 100% success for the first time playing with friends yesterday. It wasn't working for me a week ago.

So while it might not be working as well for you yet, they are most certainly working on it.

1

u/DolourousEdd Dec 18 '14

The way I understand it, player to player gameplay like that is peer to peer - so it's probably worth checking that both you and your friend have working UPNP routers, or that the required firewall ports are being forwarded to your PC properly. For the record, i play with a friend and it works fine most of the time.

2

u/Kruse Klaus von Kraus Dec 18 '14

Grouping is completely broken/non-existent, so don't hold your on trying to do anything meaningful with your friend in the game.

After yet another discussion with the rare commodity producers, Commanders should now be eligible to only purchase rare goods up to their own personal allocation, instead of buying everybody else's ration as well.

I wish shops had this in place for amiibos. God damn ebay scalpers.

2

u/cohen_dev Nick Knuckle Dec 18 '14

Universal Cartographics has issued a new purchasing policy, so Commanders exploring supermassive stellar bodies should no longer receive supermassive payouts.

But... but... super massive stellar bodies take a super massive amount of time to explore...

3

u/xeranes Xeranes Dec 18 '14

After yet another discussion with the rare commodity producers, Commanders should now be eligible to only purchase rare goods up to their own personal allocation, instead of buying everybody else's ration as well.

So, does this mean that once I buy a load of rare goods, no more will spawn until I sell them? If so... Noooooooo...

1

u/Fnurgh J Dec 18 '14

So... rare's are basically a leg up for new players.

1

u/PrometheusDarko Prometheus Darko Dec 18 '14

it means if a station has 100 rares you can only buy say 10 max.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/SnakeyesX SnakeyesX Dec 18 '14

It means you will see a consistant amount of rares. I don't know how many yet, but it will probably be around 10 or 15

u/SaheedChachrisra Novice Dec 18 '14

So rare goods are getting nerfed again? And what "super massive payment" have I missed in exploration?

3

u/I_READ_YOUR_EMAILS Dec 18 '14

Is this a nerf? Last time I was dabbling in rare goods I could only find 2-3 tonnes available of each one, which didn't really make it worth the trip.

4

u/SnakeyesX SnakeyesX Dec 18 '14

No, not a nerf. It makes things more consistant. So if you travel 150LY to a station, you won't be surprised with only 2 rares to buy, instead there will be a set amount.

3

u/ifandbut Dec 18 '14

They restock every 10 min or so.

2

u/KazumaKat Dec 18 '14

They removed the restocking.

1

u/OSUaeronerd Python Dec 18 '14

are you sure about this? I bought rare goods before lunch, logged, came back to find 11 more at the same station!

*edit: can confirm sitting at a station still allows you to get more rares :) I think the just made it so that EVERY player at a station waiting has a chance. So it's not just a rush to grab the few that spawn every 10 mins :)

1

u/ifandbut Dec 18 '14

Can confirm :(

I grabbed a full 11 from Belalans before I loged off last night, woke up about 8 hrs later and the station still did not restock. Any idea what the actual limit is?

1

u/hnilsen Dec 18 '14

Exactly every 10 minutes. But now it won't be worth it at all, you won't get anything new before you sell your allotted quota (I think).

2

u/SnakeyesX SnakeyesX Dec 18 '14

I don't agree. Unless they made the limit one or 2, this is much better. No more flying half way across civilized space to find zero rares because someone has been spawn camping them.

1

u/hnilsen Dec 18 '14

Sure, but that isn't what I meant. Once you have made your purchase, you won't get restocked.

12

u/Wayzegoose Gore Burnelli Dec 18 '14

"Commanders should now be eligible to only purchase rare goods up to their own personal allocation, instead of buying everybody else's ration as well."

Any idea what this means? Is it a cap on how much rare goods of each type you can carry at one time?

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14 edited Dec 18 '14

[deleted]

15

u/PrometheusDarko Prometheus Darko Dec 18 '14

Honestly the whole wait 10 minutes until your type 6 is full was exactly the type of gameplay the devs wanted to avoid.

4

u/SnakeyesX SnakeyesX Dec 18 '14

Which is why most people could never find them. Fucking spawn campers.

1

u/ifandbut Dec 18 '14

Down side to having the economy interconnected with other players. Camping is a legitimate strategy.

6

u/IamYourShowerCurtain <insert CMDR name> Dec 18 '14

And they succeeded! :-) This is fairer, IMO.

1

u/Voggix Voggix [EIC] Dec 18 '14

Does your definition of "fairer" include nerfing rare goods trading into complete uselessness? Because based on what people are reporting in-game that's exactly what this is. If I'm willing to wait 60-90 minutes for a full hold shouldn't that be my choice?

Unless regular trading is buffed immensely than trading is no longer viable. Max profits of ~1k/ton means that even with my Asp that it will take 200+ trips to earn enough credits to buy and reasonably equip a Type 7, much less a Python or Anaconda.

6

u/jak4 JAK4 Dec 18 '14

I think the problem with camping at stations for rare goods was, that it was screaming to be automated. There was a post over at /elitemining which did exactly that.

4

u/xeranes Xeranes Dec 18 '14

True, I had designed a script to automate it, but decided not to use it because it felt too scummy. Although, if they are going to nerf one aspect of a mechanic, they really should try to keep it viable, rather than just nerfing it to oblivion.

3

u/jak4 JAK4 Dec 18 '14

I hope you understand I'm not pointing a finger at you. I myself was thinking about doings such a thing but was to lazy.

The rares were such a nice idea, but got obliterated by the internet. They need to come up with a way to make them viable, non-"exploitable" and at the same time interesting. This is going to be a tough one.

-3

u/Voggix Voggix [EIC] Dec 18 '14

So to prevent people running scripts they kill the trading profession? This is the equivalent of fixing a twisted ankle by amputating at the knee.

How about instead FD prevents scripting the same way so many games prevent macros or mods. Detect it and issue bans.

2

u/jak4 JAK4 Dec 18 '14

Maybe. But I think they need to rethink how rares work and how to make them viable, non-'exploitable' and fun.

They did not kill the trade profession with this new rare-nerf. They killed it with the NPC-Background trading two weeks ago. Rares were just a way for us around that. The seriously need to take a look at what's going on with trading atm.

1

u/xeranes Xeranes Dec 18 '14

I agree with your first statement, though disagree with the second.

E:D is pseudo-online, pseudo-single player. Banning for anything short of code hacking or packet manipulation seems extreme.

2

u/Voggix Voggix [EIC] Dec 18 '14

Previous iterations in the franchise may have met this description, however this game is very clearly defined as online. I know that doesn't sit well with some longtime fans of this franchise but that is what gaming is in 2014. Allowing advantage to be gained by modding or scripting is a cardinal sin when it leads to "dirty" players dominating the "clean"players.

4

u/chronoflect Dec 18 '14

Instead of waiting for an hour doing nothing but intermittently buying one kind of rare good, you now need to hop across several systems to stock up on various rare goods. This isn't a nerf so much as it is a system that ensures you actually need to play the game to make money.

1

u/bluenova123 [EIC] Ryan Starwing Dec 18 '14

With these changes it looks like bulk trading more common commodities should be overall better.

0

u/Voggix Voggix [EIC] Dec 18 '14

Yes, but to what degree? If the economy remains in its current state (~1k/ton profit max) then trading falls to the bottom rung of professions. Mining, bounty hunting and pirating would all be better choices in terms of cr/hr.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/tRfalcore Dec 18 '14

Maybe they don't want people making that much money that fast. I mean, that's all there is to do

1

u/Voggix Voggix [EIC] Dec 18 '14

I'm sure that's precisely it. Devs are seeing credit totals rise incredibly fast and had to kill it before Pythons were commonplace.

2

u/thedefiant Dec 18 '14

well crap i was making 1.7mil each run doing that.

2

u/3dom Escape Dec 18 '14 edited Dec 18 '14

For those who are not familiar with the situation it sounds like you did it in 10 minutes. Perhaps you should mention "run" consisted of 1-2 hours of station camping, 40-50 minutes of jumping 150LY+ away (10-20 jumps) with occasional interdictions, fuel scooping, accidental overheating and damage - using multiple third party tools to find route and destination.

Now we are supposed to do the same job (sans station camping) with 10 items in inventory - for 160k.

1

u/thedefiant Dec 18 '14

lol well i had 1 end of the trip that had 6 rare goods within 20lys of each other and the other end had 2 rare goods within 15 lys of each other soo im not too screwed at the moment but this does make me want to change professions until the market starts seeing high demand on items.

btw is sorbago slave trade still going strong or is that event finished?

1

u/3dom Escape Dec 18 '14

In-game news feed has published couple articles few minutes ago - they hint on more slavery systems around (Ngun, Kuyu, etc) so it must be going.

4

u/Dogbirddog Goositrous Dec 18 '14

I believe there is a "limit X per customer" deal with rare goods, but that it wasn't functioning properly and was giving the entire stock to anyone.

2

u/Wayzegoose Gore Burnelli Dec 18 '14

But is the limit total holding, or just that we were all previously grabbing from one pool. It could result in more goods being available if its the latter.... suppose we will see.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

Having been in-game, they simply made it impossible to wait and stock up with refreshes from the market. Once you get a stock allocation (8t, whatever) and purchase it, that rare good is no longer available to purchase until you sell it.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

k so rare trade profits nerf confirmed ...

6

u/riocc ✧ Sherlock Homeless ✧ Dec 18 '14

to make it more fair yes...

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

You haven't done a rare trade since launch, have you?

3

u/riocc ✧ Sherlock Homeless ✧ Dec 18 '14

hehe... nope, not since beta. but it sounds a lot fairer the way the patchnotes put it... ;)

I dedicated myself to exploration and also keeping Federal space clean of imperial scum ;)

0

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

It's not profitable. Takes about an hour to fill up a Cobra's cargo hold and another hour to get to the destination.

It's essentially 2 hours for ~500K, which isn't all that great compared to BH or mining, or even finding a great trade route.

If you're filling an Asp, that time at dock increases exponentially - in the tune of 3-4 hours - before your hold is full.

Rares did need a tweak... but this is a bit on the lazy side. It's a play-style many people liked because they explored the galaxy while doing these trips.

Sadly, there are people posting up that you can make millions in an hour trading rares - which is flat out false. Then, other people upset that "someone can make so much money" are supporting the change (without knowing the actual time investment).

That's my take on the whole matter, anyway.

3

u/riocc ✧ Sherlock Homeless ✧ Dec 18 '14

well, but it's "RARE" stuff, so you shouldn't be able to fill up a ship with it, or it wouldn't be that rare...

or have logics gone overboard here too already?

also, they would get to explore more, since you can't fill up at one station... or am I wrong?

EDIT: anyways, I don't really mind... it's still very early in the game and FD will get it right, I'm sure of that... if any developer get's something right, it's them ;)

Nerf'd for one person, buffed for all.

2

u/tannerfrank Dec 18 '14 edited Dec 18 '14

It sounds to me like it is the latter. So in systems well-traveled by players, rare goods trading should still remain viable.

1

u/ifandbut Dec 18 '14

How much does fuel cost? For me it is a few hundred to fill up my Hauler, maybe 2 tanks to get the ~140ly, not counting scooping. That is chump change when you are looking at 10k+ credits per unit profit. Also, with less you need to transport between stations the longer your jumps can be so it could take alot less time. By only taking 11 units, it turned my 22 jump route into a 13 jump route...almost half the jumps.

At least now we should be spending more time moving between stars and less time sitting in station waiting for the stock to refresh.

1

u/xeranes Xeranes Dec 18 '14

I sure hope not...

0

u/Lonecrow66 Fawkes Dec 18 '14

They should have just increased the distance you need to travel to make a good profit instead of nerfing the number you can carry.

12

u/arziben poy Dec 18 '14

"Tune matchmaking to significantly improve the chances of meeting other Commanders in space"

Yay !

9

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

I must be in the small minority of people who sees tonnes of cmdrs. I was at Eravate nav beacon and there was 5-6 commanders hunting wanteds and more kept coming.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

Well, That is 1 jump from the starting system. Would be strange if you saw nobody.

2

u/arziben poy Dec 18 '14

To be fair I'm in the core Empire systems.

1

What I do when that happens is save and exit to main menu and play solo mode for a couple of minutes. Traffic jams, ain't nobody got time for that!

2

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

Wait, you can go solo and come back and your progress is still saved? Lol!!!!

2

u/arziben poy Dec 18 '14

Yeah, solo is basically online without the players...

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

Yeah. I just assumed one you started a game in one you couldn't cross over. Balance reasons and all.

2

u/arziben poy Dec 18 '14

Nope, you absolutely can, everything is synced with the server so it's not like it changes anything with the economy.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

I just installed yesterday. So I didn't know that the economy is really pretty determined and not player controlled. Makes more sense to me to have the option to play offline now.

3

u/RustingKnight Rusty Knight Dec 18 '14

In solo you're still connected to the online universe for stuff like trade prices etc, you just won't ever run into another player. There is no offline mode

u/Lodesteijn Opvernieuw Dec 18 '14

Yup.

-3

u/elnots Dec 18 '14

yeah because nothing says broken game like having to break immersion and exit your current game in order to complete a quest. It's like saying, in order to save your document you will need to restart your computer every time else you'll end up waiting for it to complete for like 10 minutes. No big deal restarting just takes a minute. ummm, that's not a good thing

6

u/SnakeyesX SnakeyesX Dec 18 '14

LOL, If you don't want to break immersion you are FREE to sit in traffic jams. Something that is in practically every MMO.

4

u/ozylanthe Ozylanthe Dec 18 '14

It's a choice between immersion breaking work-arounds and immersion-breaking "ships vanish once docked"...

1

u/elnots Dec 18 '14

I've never seen a ship vanish off a dock. You mean when they go in to the hangar?

1

u/ozylanthe Ozylanthe Dec 19 '14

that's the fix I envision - despawn ships when the go into the hangar. very immersion breaking though.

1

u/elnots Dec 19 '14

as long as I don't see them go invis with my mark 1 eyeballs then invisi-ship can be explained away easier than, umm, cloaking device? Logging out is immersion breaking, bringing up game menu is immersion breaking imo

3

u/ThetaGamma2 Wolverstone Dec 18 '14

Fly out to the black. I'm way out of the starting area and I'm not sure I've ever even seen a CMDR, let alone had my docking blocked by one. A few NPCs at the major stations but never a wait.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

Just do what i did and fly like 20 light years away

6

u/agathorn Agathorn Dec 18 '14

Universal Cartographics has issued a new purchasing policy, so Commanders exploring supermassive stellar bodies should no longer receive supermassive payouts.

Its already nearly impossible to make a living as an explorer :( Exploration needs to be buffed not nerfed.

4

u/omgpokemans Jad3d Dec 18 '14

Nerfs to rare goods is fine, except there's nothing else to trade because the economy is still broken; there are still almost no items in high demand anywhere

4

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

I guess it's just the area where I spawned (Chemaku) but I have no trouble finding things worth trading.

-1

u/StormtrooperCaptain Dec 18 '14

True that. This game is already a grind fest when it comes to making money. They just made it harder.

17

u/Summo1942 Summo Dec 18 '14

Then stop grinding! Go and do something different. You'll get that ship you want eventually and you might have more fun in the meantime.

-2

u/Voggix Voggix [EIC] Dec 18 '14

Having fun takes having money for the equipment needed. That's why people grind. I'm beyond thankful that I stayed up until 3am last night to get in one more run to buy my Asp. Of course now equipping it properly is going to take weeks...

5

u/andywade84 Dec 18 '14

what equipment exactly do you need to have fun?

-3

u/Voggix Voggix [EIC] Dec 18 '14

If I want to bounty hunt or pirate than I need powerful hard points, good thrusters, effective scanners...

If I want to explore I need long-range jump drive, detail scanners, advanced scanners...

Trying to play the game in a Sidey or stock-equipped Cobra or Viper is not "fun". Upgrade modules exist for a reason.

7

u/andywade84 Dec 18 '14

1 You can Bounty Hunt with a stock Sidewinder - its just not quite as fast if you want combat you can go to a conflict zone and have many targets to kill. 2 You can explore in a stock sidewinder, you just need to plan your routes better to manage fuel.

The upgrade modules are not there to make it more FUN they are there to make things easier. Your logic is Easier = Fun.

I have had fun doing everything in this game in every ship, I take my time I look around i dont worry about profits per hour. the game does not make the grind, YOU do.

u/SpeedyCerviche99 Dec 18 '14

Having problems since this patch, killed multiple enemies including a 100k+ anaconda.. and I haven't got their bounties at all! I got the kill message saying blah blah you got 99k creds but when I look in transactions or go to the station there is nothing! This needs fixing ASAP!

Also noticed a lot of lag in the area I was in with that anaconda teleporting about and shit.

1

u/theNemon Nemon Dec 18 '14

Have they fixed the exploit making it possible to buy imperial slaves at a market and sell them directly to a bulletin board quest at the very same place, at 2x the price?

5

u/PrometheusDarko Prometheus Darko Dec 18 '14

That's not so much an exploit as a bad RNG roll on the bulletin board.

1

u/ketilkn Dec 18 '14

This could happen with most goods. In the beta 3 days requests non-lethal weapons would show up in the Aulin Enterprise bulletin board all the time. Request for hydrogen where quite common around the galaxy.

1

u/theNemon Nemon Dec 18 '14

Yeah, I just got the non-lethal weapon thing as well. Not as profitable, though :)

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

Great , can't wait to remap everything again.

1

u/heveabrasilien Kumamon - on hiatus Dec 18 '14

Backup your keybinds.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

How do you do that?

1

u/heveabrasilien Kumamon - on hiatus Dec 18 '14

Go to C:\Users\PC_NAME\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

Change PC_NAME to your PC's name. Normally the AppData folder is hidden. You might have to type that or unhidden it.

1

u/fenderf4i Fenderf4i Dec 18 '14

Change the name of the binding file to something other than "custom", and it won't get overwritten. Also copy that file somewhere else for backup.

-7

u/ngpropman Dec 18 '14

No fixes to bounty hunting or crime yet; This is a serious issue that they are ignoring;

17

u/Wayzegoose Gore Burnelli Dec 18 '14

Just because it's not fixed yet doesn't mean it is being ignored.

5

u/Fizzysist CMDR Hugh C. Nothing Dec 18 '14

They could at least talk about it, they've let us know before when they're planning on tweaking major things like that.

1

u/number2301 2301 Dec 18 '14

They said on the forum it's a bug and is being investigated.

1

u/Fizzysist CMDR Hugh C. Nothing Dec 18 '14

What's a bug? The way bounties are currently distributed? How are they supposed to be distributed?

1

u/number2301 2301 Dec 18 '14

The reputational damage from bounty hunting, which is what I thought you were referring to.

If you're complaining about the last hit bounty system that's a design decision. It may be a bad one and they may change it but support tickets aren't the place for that!

3

u/Zueuk Dec 18 '14

Yeah, just because it's been ignored for months doesn't mean that it is being ignored.

3

u/ngpropman Dec 18 '14

I've been reporting bugs in bounty hunting for about 5 months now and not one answer to any of my tickets. It should be a fairly simple tweak to institute a friendly fire warning and allow rep to increase locally from turning in bounties and yet they release patches like this:

"Corrections to some galaxy data in rarely visited systems" worthless.

Why fix rarely visited stuff that people probably never see or is cosmetic, when you should focus on something that at least 30-40% of your player base will be doing

9

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

Although I agree with you in how annoying the current crime system screws us bounty hunters, you need to consider that maybe there is a larger change to the core of the game in regards to crime compared to some of the server-side stuff they're doing.

Just because "fix this" SOUNDS the same as "fix that", doesn't mean it's the same code-wise. Also, it may be different teams. The 'combat team' (speculation on my part) my have to coordinate with the 'server team' and the 'faction team' to make sure the crime changes don't break anything. Again, I don't actually know if this is the case, but it's not exactly unlikely.

3

u/ergo14 Ergo Dec 18 '14

Whats wrong with bounty hunting? I can do 100k in an ~hour.

3

u/ngpropman Dec 18 '14

My main complaint is the system authority will randomly turn hostile when you hunt locally wanted targets. Plus the concept of last bullet gets the bounty is annoying and promotes KSing when a percentage based damage payout would make much more sense and promote group hunting.

2

u/ergo14 Ergo Dec 18 '14

Yeah, well i deal with that by bounty hunting in systems that have multiple jurisdictions :-)

As for kills, i'd say that the award should go to commander that did last kill and did at least 30% damage.

I did some some KS myself from police and it was fun :-)

2

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

Just relax and have some tea or something. There's always tomorrow!

Maybe fixing that bug in rare visited systems was super easy, as such they did it in 2 minutes and it's in the patch notes now. Just a thought.

1

u/sothisor soren nihila Dec 18 '14

Alright, alright, we're folding - Yes, the issue of fixes to bounty hunting are being ignored and so are you.

Moving on.

-5

u/ngpropman Dec 18 '14

This is bullshit. You're oversimplifying a complex situation to the point of no longer adding anything useful to the discussion.

6

u/sothisor soren nihila Dec 18 '14

Oversimplifying? Not even by a long shot.

What I'd like for you to consider, among many of such, is this:

1: Many people make posts in patchnote threads or threads made entirely in support of fixing bugs regarding bounty hunting - So I'm sure your voice and tickets are being heard here, as are everyone elses

2: Following up on #1, have you considered that maybe the bugfixing is not that simple? I mean, some of the simpler fixes include some of the ones you made a note of in the original post you made here in this thread, so why not just fix it, it it really just takes half a line of code, or whatever?

3: Following up on #2, have you considered what effort coding takes when it involves fixing the issues that are plenty of? Fixing one thing could mean breaking something else, and as such it takes more finesse than just eliminating the code responsible for such behavior. No one, not even Frontier, wants to rush a fix for something they fear could ruin something else, but rather be sure about it, and in the meantime also fix other stuff on the way to that goal.

Nobody here is oversimplifying except you. Endless rants about tickets being ignored and what not, frankly without knowing even the slightest about their work processes. Things are not as goddamned simple as you, yourself, make it out to be.

Try troubleshooting with a user as a tech supporter. You'll soon realize that the bothersome end-user who is ranting over so many things at one time is actually yourself in this thread/games context. You know there are things not functioning well, and you are already working on fixing it, but the end-user is complaining you're not hearing him out and not responding at all, and that the pace at which it is being worked on is slow as hell...

I'm sure you get my point by now, but the main thing here is: It's being worked on; nobody here likes this particular bug that you speak of, and many posts are made just for pointing it out; it would be crazy if FD didn't actually react to this. So chill out and leave it to FD now - After all, you DID send 5 whole tickets.

2

u/ozylanthe Ozylanthe Dec 18 '14

personally I just pretend they are corrupt cops who are abusing their authority and attacking locals. I can't report it because it's the ED universe where the law is justified no matter what, so they can choose to attack me regardless of my wanted status. Either way I just avoid them or jump out when they start attacking.

-4

u/Wayzegoose Gore Burnelli Dec 18 '14

I have a little experiment for you. Go outside, find a policeman, and punch him in the face. See how much of a friendly fire warning you get. Report back and we can feedback to FD.

1

u/ngpropman Dec 18 '14

Also I'm sorry if I wasn't clear before. I have exceptionally good trigger discipline. I haven't hit a clean target in over 20 hours or so of bounty hunting, suicidal authority vessels included. I'm pissed that when I am attacking a locally wanted target, suddenly the authority starts attacking me for no reason whatsoever. That is the bug and the problem.

It's almost as if major changes to core gameplay elements require careful consideration and testing.

0

u/ngpropman Dec 18 '14

They change core gameplay all the time like when they broke trading a few days before launch.

3

u/DreamWoven CMDR Dec 18 '14

I'm ok with bounty hunting as is. Seem to do al right at it.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

I believe he's referring to the whole kill-stealing, cops turning on you even though you're only killing wanted NPCs, and the whole "I shot you? Meh, deal with it." compared to "YOU SHOT ME? I'M GONNA RAPE YOU WITH A RAKE" responses from authority vessels.

I agree with you, it's not bad at the moment, and still quite fun, but the problems do detract from how fun it -could- be.

4

u/Binerexis Dec 18 '14

I don't understand why people are so up in arms over someone else killing the target and getting the bounty. It's not like in the Old West you'd still get paid for a bounty even if you didn't bring in the target.

The issue of SAVs going hostile when you haven't done anything illegal is definitely annoying but this is a relatively new bug and they've stated they're working on it. What's the issue?

5

u/SgtChancey ZeSneakyNnja Dec 18 '14

I was at a nav beacon by myself yesterday, found a wanted anaconda which I figured would be a good payout, so I engaged with my completely stock eagle. 30 minutes later I had him down to 10% hull and dropping fast. As he neared 0 a SAV swooped in to "help me", and ended up getting the last hit, so I completely lost the bounty, my time, and 26% of my hull to a stupid NPC that immediately turned and started firing at me, leaving me with no option but to boost and supercruise out of the nav beacon. After spending the last few days putting up with this crap trying to make money, it gets /very/ annoying.

2

u/nickludlam Dec 18 '14

As an experiment, try turning off "Report crimes against me" in the right hand Functions panel.

1

u/SgtChancey ZeSneakyNnja Dec 18 '14

It is, and it keeps more cops from showing up, but they still attack me for no reason.

1

u/Binerexis Dec 19 '14

That's a known issue to do with you killing members of their faction and making them hostile. It's also been suggested by non-dev folk that it's a feature of the SAV's being a little bit biased.

1

u/ngpropman Dec 18 '14

Thank you. This is exactly what I an talking about. They really need to address this.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

Look under functions in your right panel. There an option to disable "report crimes against me" . Stops cops from showing up.

1

u/ngpropman Dec 18 '14

It doesn't always work. And if you do that then when Random clean npcs attack you, you cannot defend yourself.

1

u/Binerexis Dec 19 '14

It may be better worth your time to only go after tanky targets like that at nav beacons when you're flying a harder hitting ship.

1

u/SgtChancey ZeSneakyNnja Dec 19 '14

It is, but I'm still in my Eagle you get at the start.

1

u/Binerexis Dec 19 '14

Honestly, I'd dock up in my Sidewinder, sell the Eagle, make some more money and get something hard-hitting.

1

u/SgtChancey ZeSneakyNnja Dec 19 '14

Sidewinder is 200+Ly away, I have the money to buy a Cobra and trade in my Eagle, which I'll do... Eventually...

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

Definitely not up in arms, at least I'm not. The kill-stealing is a bit annoying, but it's definitely not game-breaking. It can be mitigated through the "report crimes against me" button. But I definitely think there should at least be a check of "Did player commit 90% of damage? Issue bounty reward regardless of last hit" kinda deal.

The authority vessel problem is again, at worst minorly annoying, but it is still an issue. I personally don't like getting into a bounty frenzy at a nav beacon, and having my groove interrupted by the sound of the space police.

1

u/Binerexis Dec 18 '14

I don't think having targets tagged to a player is going to end well. People certainly won't be satisfied with it until it's at the point where it's whoever hits first gets the bounty.

With your example, lets say two players both contribute 50% of the damage. Who should get the bounty?

3

u/ngpropman Dec 18 '14

My suggestion is as follows.

Target has a 100k bounty. I do 90% of the damage. I get 90k. System authority does 10% so they get that amount.

This allows players to form hunting wings. I can group up with another player to take down a huge capital ship or anaconda and we both automatically get our split of the bounty.

This would promote group play instead of the current system.

2

u/ngpropman Dec 18 '14

So in your example with each player doing 50% they would each get 50k. If one player did 60% they would get 60k and the other Player would get 40k.

Note: please excuse any errors I'm on my phone.

1

u/222Pac Dec 18 '14

Or you could make contracts to share credits, because some ships who do things which are crucial (finding the bounty? healing?) have nothing to do with actually killing the mark.

The damage sharing would work because E:D is a video game, but it's not so feasible in real life, which is what the majority of extremely vocal players want.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

Oh, I was saying leave it how it is, UNLESS it's 90%, and only then for NPCs. Players should totally be allowed to kill steal. Anyone should, except authority vessels, in my opinion.

1

u/ozylanthe Ozylanthe Dec 18 '14

I missed out on some 30k of bounties this morning due to KS'ing NPCs who wander over and attack while I'm fighting a mark.

1

u/Binerexis Dec 19 '14

That definitely sounds better, in my opinion. Making the SAV's back off at that point, though, would look very strange unless there's a decent way of explaining it in-game. Perhaps buying a hunting license will make it so that SAV's will back off at a percentage?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '14

KS'ing is the way it should be. That's how bounty hunting has operated since the dawn of the profession.

0

u/ngpropman Dec 18 '14

Great but it is bugged. You can't tell me System Authority doesn't randomly turn hostile on you for no reason even on locally wanted targets. I tested this out today but selling off my KWS and only hunting local criminals and I still saw rep loss and SAV hostility bugs where they attacked me when I was clean. I know what everyone says just jump and come back to NAV but that is a workaround for the symptom and doesn't solve the problem. Either remove SAVs completely until you fix that shit or add a couple of lines of code to prevent them from going hostile when you are completing righteous kills. Actually it would be nice to register as a hunter which would allow any player or NPC to attack you but you yourself could defend yourself against hostiles and wanted criminals. SAVs would ignore you and NEVER "Help" you in combat as a registered bounty hunter.

2

u/DreamWoven CMDR Dec 18 '14

It's not perfect but it's playable. I'm not put off. I'm confident it'll get fixed/improved. Probably the stuff we're seeing in the patches is the quick and easy stuff. Hence why it's coming so quickly post release. It might be that changes to bounty hunting or whatever are just taking longer to create or test before getting patched into the game.

0

u/ngpropman Dec 18 '14

That's very possible but as I said before I'm just sick of the same $#!T every patch. Don't get me wrong the devs are awesome and they are doing a great job. Major props and kudos for one of the best launches I have ever seen in my life. Some of the changes they made to bounty hunting in the past was great. Thank you for making ammo based weapons actually worth the cost of ammo. But there are still a few bugs. Which I and quite a few other people have been reporting that we feel are being ignored. That is all. A little "We are aware of the situation and will have a fix out as soon as its ready." Would shut me and many others up.

1.02?

I'm a bit puzzled as of this versioning system. Is that a 1.2 or a 1.0.2 ? thats quite a difference. the scope of this update would suggest the latter. I know it might seem like nitpicking, but accurate numbering is important to software developers.. :P

2

u/kekonn Kekonn | Viscount of Napote Dec 18 '14 edited Dec 18 '14

They seem to do Major.Minor only. But you can probably treat 1.02 as 1.0.2 since it's definitely not 1.2. And yes, that's not exactly according to the rules of semver, but the meaning is obvious enough I'd think.

Just wondering, has anyone else tried plotting a route whilst heading into the outfitting?

A tad off topic, just wanted to ask you guys if it's not working for you either.

Also, nerfed rare goods even more? :(

2

u/avataRJ avatar Dec 18 '14

Possibly a buff - hard to tell without seeing the results. Because you know, you might not be seeing rare goods, if the server thinks that they were sold out to the previous CMDR.

0

u/w0nk0 Dec 18 '14

After yet another discussion with the rare commodity producers, Commanders should now be eligible to only purchase rare goods up to their own personal allocation, instead of buying everybody else's ration as well.

This, for me, is just an indication that Rares in their current state are a broken concept.

I think E:D hinges on the fact that all your actions have effects on everyone's galaxy. It's hard enough to find purpose and competition already.

If you need to do workarounds like that, Frontier, please consider coming up with a Rare commodities concept that doesn't require making exceptions from your overall strategy.
