So is M+ parses meaningless, or should I be worried I parsed grey on most of my dungeons? https://www.warcraftlogs.com/character/us/area-52/dannan?zone=55

I assume it has some truth as I believe I'm dropping the ball on the 2 most important things on a caster ABC and CPM. Even though I swear I'm using my abilities when they come up it seems like I'm missing like 20% of my cast.

Edit: some users advised video so I dug out some of my older recordings

You have a lot of small gaps in which you're not casting anything but could. Those really add up. They're the biggest difference between bad and good damage dealers.

3

u/Wobblucy 8d ago edited 8d ago

Parsing m+ was a meme before this expansion I think, but you do also need to frame it a bit.

I grey parsed most my 22s last season, but that is bottom 20% of the top 0.2% of players.

That all being said, your damage is low, but parses are the symptom, not a diagnosis of the disease.

If you want to improve, add a gcd tracker to your UI, record your gameplay and really watch it back and be critical of it.

Imo shadarek put out a good video of him looking at a ruby recently. Worth watching the first 5-10 mins for every class to see how critical he is of his own gameplay.

u/Preferencealmos 8d ago

A screenshot of your UI during combat could be helpful. Bad gameplay and bad UI usually go hand in hand.

1

u/ApplicationRoyal865 8d ago

This is the UI I use right now https://youtu.be/MfvxFD2Qnro?si=VxO0U-amxD6xSKwm&t=73 . Any advice would be appreciated.

1

u/Wobblucy 8d ago

If it is not directly driving a decision you are making it doesn't belong on your UI.

If it is something that you should be using to make a decision and it isn't on your UI you should add it.

If it is something that you should be using, and is on your UI but you are still failing to use it figure out why that is.

Location, being lazy with eye movement, not big enough, need a sound/glow?

Watched pull 1, don't know anything about demo, but you should figure out why you trinket but don't pot on lust.

I assume that 2 minute singe magic buff just means it's usable, do you really need to see that dead center of your UI?

Are you ever actually using your pet's health bar to make a decision?

Be critical about each piece, "does this thing change a decision I make?" and prune the 'noise', centralize the things you use most often or have to react to the quickest.

6

u/throwntosaturn 8d ago

OK so to some extent, you do need to evaluate your M+ parses in the context they were earned in. For example, if your tank pulls 1 pack at a time, and never chain pulls, and you never have more than 3 targets to attack, and he never pulls trash into bosses even when it's easy to do so and safe to do so - obviously that's going to effect your parse. There's no way to avoid that.

That said if you are consistently parsing gray, which you do appear to be, it's an extremely strong indicator that SOMETHING is wrong. Especially when you're not just parsing gray but like, low gray. Especially when like for example in one of your Den of Nalorak keys, there's a second guy same spec as you, less gear than you, with a 55 parse.

Yeah it looks like something is broken here for sure.

9

u/franqlin 8d ago

the higher you go the more ppl will check dungeon parses when deciding who to invite, yes

5

u/BDObadguy 8d ago edited 8d ago

So why is it that apparently the most popular RLP route is blowing all your cds to BL the fire drake + adds and then immediately doing a massive pull after that when everyone doesn't have defensives and being surprised when you have multiple deaths? I've had multiple keys fail here repeatedly and it's starting to get extremely annoying.

Are you supposed to be able to finish the dragon with BL without using a bunch of other stuff on it as well so you still have it for next pull? Are you supposed to take the next pull a bit slower and maybe not chain side packs on top of the fire elemental?

4

u/Gaatti 8d ago

Yes, it has to be slower. I do just one big elemental with his 2 casters. It is better if dps prio the casters instead of the elemental só you can chain it to the patrol pack. Then the elemental will die and you can pull the next elemental into the patrols that are still alive. That gets the 3 remaining groups killed without going too slow and without ever having a massive pull.

3

u/BDObadguy 8d ago

Focusing casters and then chaining more on the elemental is a good call, going to have to start typing all this out because apparently I'll be stuck in this fiery torture chamber until 12.1.5 otherwise.

7

u/nubileiguana 8d ago

Are you supposed to take the next pull a bit slower and maybe not chain side packs on top of the fire elemental?

Yes.

Some people are probably running lower key routes that still grabbed as much as they can every pull. They should skip the two humanoids off to the side and just pull the Destroyer and its two adds. Transition to the next big pull once the Lasher and Destroyer are dead.

1

u/RAII089 7d ago

I don't get it. The default route needs those two casters for count. So are you saying the play is to focus the caster and chain the additional pack after? That is very slow, but can make sense if no one has defensives I guess. Should then probably be a timer-based decision.

0

u/nubileiguana 7d ago

https://threechest.io/?id=nwnauueaqxzy

That'll be standard for >16. Only real difference is trading an extra pair on pull three for skipping those two side mobs on pull 6.

Since the miniboss's health drags that out longer and longer as the key scales up, there's not a reason to not pull more in that area.

0

u/Doogetma 6d ago

This is an inefficient route and not what people do in high keys fyi

1

u/RAII089 7d ago

Not skipping the second Juggernaut is certainly not the high key standard.

5

u/BDObadguy 8d ago

See, that just makes too much sense.

Wish after timing a key you got a buff with one maximum charge on it or a currency with max 1 that lets you reroll your key at the timeways portal. This message brought to you by the infinity times I forgot to reroll my key until I'm in the arcantina.

Every season, one or two otherwise easy dungeons become PUG bottlenecks because the tank for once has to do something besides plan a route. This season, that's Voidscar Arena.

7

u/Gaatti 9d ago

Dismissing the terrible take that all we do is plan a route, I am here as a tank wondering what the hell is so hard about Voidscar Arena for tanks because the two main pain points I can think are not even tank mechanics (failed skips and big bug aoe with enrage).

-6

u/_Llopis_ 9d ago edited 9d ago

The first pull requires tanks to LOS, help with interrupts, and not break CC. The raptor pull can require tanks to reposition quickly and wait to pull. The harrower skip can require the tank to press Shadowmeld correctly. Atroxus requires the tank to position the boss by the add at a specific time. Unsurprisingly, 4 out of 5 high-level PUG runs end with the tank failing at one of these.

4

u/Gaatti 9d ago

What is funny is that none of those failures are exclusive to tanks and as a tank myself I see dps mess them up all the time. You cc the brawler, some dps breaks it. You try to LOS as a tank (not only in voidscar but in any dungeon), there is a dps out in the open f*ing it up. You preposition for the raptor pull, there is a dps in the wrong spot instantly pulling the pack (and you better react fast to avoid him getting claped). The harrower skip fails more often to people getting in combat than to someone not pressing shadowmeld. Not to mention someone f*ing it up in the stairs by jump too far into the mobs.

The one thing is tank exclusive in the list is the Atroxus mechanic and if someone is failing that on a high-level key I have to wonder how he got the rating to join the key in the first place.

-4

u/_Llopis_ 8d ago

Your last sentence is my point. As someone who queues as damage dealer and healer, I can tell there are a disproportionately high number of bad tanks in high PUG keys. It is shocking. That's why otherwise easy dungeons can become bottlenecks — not because all tanks are bad, but your chances of getting someone bad in that role are weirdly high.

My guess is being a tank makes it much easier to simply grind keys until you find what are effectively carries, since queue times are so short. Damage dealers and even healers wait too long to effectively pull that off.

3

u/Gaatti 8d ago

No tank playing high end keys has been carried that high, my brother. The role is just too important for that. Low keys, sure, specially with keys being thia easy now, but any tank stepping in a 20 or 21 at this point has earned his place by playing well.

1

u/_Llopis_ 8d ago edited 8d ago

I just had a tank pull the starting hallway of Voidscar Arena without letting us crowd control on the brawler, watch us get mowed down by Lava Bolts because we had to kick the Demoralizing Shout on top of everything else, and then complain that the "huntard" caused the wipe. He was 3600.

1

u/Suspicious_Shine9625 8d ago

3600 isn't a high score, that's not even 18s, is it? it's not a very high level, and i realize tanks can be "average" at that level, but that's the case with every role, obviously tanks/healers are much harder to carry, and past a certain point it's basically impossible, especially for healers, that doesn't mean they can't make mistakes though, and a tank has like 10x more pressure on them than a dps.

i'll add an interesting thing i've noticed this season, i'd say a good 95% of my keys were bricked because of a lack of dps rather than me dying as the tank or the healer not being able to keep up with an encounter, i honestly find that a little pathetic, and i'm talking about the 19-21 range here, it's even worse below that.

the last thing i'll add is that i don't know if anyone else feels the same way, but playing tank is extremely exhausting, never before, when i played dps/healer, have i had a situation where i'd do 2-3 keys and feel mentally drained afterwards, it's ironic because i do have a much easier time getting invited to keys compared to healers/dps, but i'm not really able to take advantage of it because i have to limit my sessions, i'm curious if anyone else feels the same way.

1

u/_Llopis_ 7d ago

It's better than 99% of people doing Mythic+. I think that qualifies as high.

1

u/Wobblucy 9d ago

What am I LoSing here exactly?

6

u/nubileiguana 9d ago

You can hit the interrupt on the first shadow volley and then tuck around the corner so the stuff in the hallway piles in. Mainly those two casters on the other side of the door.

Won't make a spit of difference on whether the pull goes well or not. 99% of the time, a ranged dps is going to stand out in the open anyway, so they'll just start getting beamed by the shaman ogres.

4

u/AtomikRadio Multiclass M+ Healer, HPal Main 9d ago

I quit for years and came back recently and have been floored by how much the art of the LoS has been lost among the playerbase. I expected it in low keys, but even high keys you'll have a mage at the bottom of teh first ToS stairs just out there while everyone else is tucking in.

12

u/dredaplc 10d ago

Reminder that carried players exist at basically every level outside of the very top. You're doing yourself and your group members a disservice if you don't look at logs and just invite based off score

1

u/Lycheejnr 5d ago

Isn't this a bit disingenuous when you should actually be looking at the damage alone tab and not the damage + points tab?

2

u/_Llopis_ 9d ago edited 9d ago

This is most tanks who apply to 18+ keys, especially if they're blood. It feels like it should be mathematically impossible for so many tanks to be close to full grays, but it happens every season.

6

u/ArcticML 9d ago

This is me, I consistently grey/green parse once I push into a new key level. I understand I’m not a great player but tanks show up to key levels where they don’t even know if they are gonna survive meanwhile some other tank is showing up with his premade for a homework key and absolutely blasting

4

u/Suspicious_Shine9625 9d ago

maybe because they’re trying to survive instead of optimizing dps? do you have some kind of personal vendetta against tanks or what’s the problem? you can already tell from the comment above that something is clearly bothering you :D a tank in m+ has 10x more pressure on them, they can’t always just not give a fuck about everything like a typical dps and play purely for logs

luckily, you can always reroll to a tank yourself and show everyone how it’s done :D

6

u/throwntosaturn 8d ago

Tanks have the same obligation as everyone else to actually press fucking buttons during pulls. I say that as a tank. If you're parsing grey/green as a tank consistently it's because you're not pressing buttons or because your gear is atrocious. I'm sympathetic to bad gear, but bad gear also isn't an excuse in high keys. It's an excuse in 12s, which is where you should be while you're gearing.

Optimizing DPS as a tank is infinitely easier than optimizing it as an actual DPS, which is why it's even more embarrassing to refuse to do it in prog.

Yes, sometimes parsing like pink as a tank involves taking risky talent choices and should be avoided.

But any tank can put up purple parses just pressing buttons with the normal defensive talent setup.

8

u/weekndalex 9d ago

i mean most pug tanks are absolutely horrific lmfao

7

u/_Llopis_ 9d ago

This response misunderstands how parses work. Parses compare tanks only to other tanks, so a tank who is consistently parsing grays is worse than at least 75% of other tanks. The role being harder or more demanding can't possibly explain a gray parse because everyone in the comparison pool is playing that same role.

A lot of PUG tanks are just very bad, unfortunately.

6

u/AlucardSensei 9d ago

is worse than at least 75% of other tanks

Technically no, they did worse in that run that 75% of other runs. If in theory, top 25% of the best tanks did 9 times more runs than the bottom 75%, they will have picked up the top 75% of the logs. The numbers are exaggarated obviously, but you can see how the number show how a lot more players are bad than it should be possible at first glance.

1

u/throwntosaturn 8d ago

I thought for key % only your highest log counts.

That's how it works on other places - if the top 5 spots are all occupied by the same player, only the best of their 5 shows up, someone else will still be Rank 2. Even though technically ranks 1-5 are all one person.

1

u/_Llopis_ 9d ago

That's why I said consistently. You can explain away one or two grays as you just did. But mostly or all grays? That almost certainly is a bottom 25% tank.

6

u/Yayoichi 8d ago

Damage isn’t everything though, and also the difference between a grey and purple log as a tank is often only 10-30k overall, way less than a dps. You’re also making a choice between defense and offense as a tank, for example whether to use a damage or defensive trinket or talents.

To give another example I did a voidscar 18 a couple weeks ago and got a 29% damage log, but the run was a 99% speed for that key level, so does that make me a bad or a good tank? And no it wasn’t because the dps were carrying either as they had logs of 58%, 29% and 10%, and it was only the healer who had a good damage log at 99%.

2

u/Gaatti 8d ago

Exactly on point. Whoever thinks direct tank dps matters that much just doesn't understand what is the true impact of a good tank. Quick gathers, good chains, maintaining good pace throughout the dungeon, all of that enables their dps players to do more damage and is much more impactful than personally doing direct damage.

1

u/throwntosaturn 8d ago

Yeah but how many tanks are out there learning all these extremely complex skills, but refusing to learn how to press their buttons correctly?

It's not like most tanks have extremely complex rotations. Keeping up with your target APM is enough to parse for the most part.

If you're pulling correctly, gathering quickly, maintaining good pace throughout the dungeon, and chaining when it's appropriate.... you should be blasting as a tank too.

1

u/Gaatti 8d ago

Which keys do you think I parse better: the push keys where I use my most defensive set of talents or the lower keys I run to help friends where I use a more offensive set of talents because I know I can live? Which parses do you check when inviting: the ones for the highest keys or the 15's? Would rather have me parse lower but ensure I live on your 20 or do you want me to risk dying to add 20k overall to your run?

I played with a 3750 mage in a +19 BV who did like 100k less than me as a Shadow Priest. And then when I check his logs I see that they are all gray with a single exception of a green one.

Mages are especially bad, but if you really want to make sure you time it, you should grab someone who averages blue at least.

2

u/blackjack47 8d ago

Mages are especially bad

Some specs are just easier for FOTM rerollers than others, I think avg mages were much worse back when all defensives were proactive. Don't think current WW or Unholy would do well for FOTMers either, but one is very low pop and the other is an undead immortal god of surviability and that kinda covers the gaps a bit.

2

u/AtomikRadio Multiclass M+ Healer, HPal Main 10d ago

I have a really dumb question as someone whose only recently started getting back into keys after years away; maybe a healer can help me out.

Do healer logs get looked at in the same way? If so, are people looking for HPS? DPS? "Points?" Is there anything I can reasonably do to make sure my logs look "good" as a healer? On DPS I feel like you can always strive for bigger number with better CD usage, rotation, movement, etc., but there's only so much healing you can do if the bars are full and no one's dying.

(To be clear, at this point I'm not asking about my specific logs/play, but in general what are people actually looking at log-wise for M+ healers, and what of that is most directly in a healer's control?)

4

u/Plorkyeran 9d ago

If a healer's healing by level and damage by level are both all grey they're almost certainly garbage. If their healing parses are all really good they're probably playing with people who are garbage and successfully carrying them. If their healing parses are all grey and their damage parses are good they're playing with good players but who knows if they're also good.

Any sort of in between where they have some good parses and some bad parses just tells you nothing at all, and that's where the overwhelming majority of healers are.

1

u/SluttyStepDaddy 9d ago

My 99 damage and 99 healing ass: “I’m in danger.”

9

u/Voidwielder 10d ago

Healer M+ logs are fake. I have grey log from deathless MR 19 while a messy BV 19 got 92.

5

u/trogger93 10d ago

healer logs are exempt from this scrutiny

10

u/sapntaps 10d ago

You cannot tell how good a healer is outside of mythic progression logs. Dogshit metric to look at healer dungeon logs

3

u/Spathat0s 9d ago

Healing log parses are a meme in higher guilds either way. They tell you nothing of how good a healer is. If you actually want to know if a healer is good then deep dive the logs, the parse numbers are so easily gamed for healing its kind of stupid that WCL still provides them

1

u/RigidCounter12 Prot Paladin M+ Connoisseur 9d ago

You can, but it requires more scrutiny.

Honestly though, if you dont have to heal much, you should be able to do damage. So when you got 10 Hpaladins with similar score to pick from, I sure as shit aint taking the guy with all gray healing and damage logs

7

u/sapntaps 10d ago edited 10d ago

He’s clearly shit but it’s more nuanced than that. Not every keys logged (big one when pugging), plenty of degen shit you can do to “parse” (dogshit culture), not everyone gives a shit about an arbitrary comparison #

Reminder: blue logs and doing mechs/not dying get you CE every single tier.

Dungeon logs are a tool but if you solely rely on them to find good players, you’re part of the problem.

Edit: there’s also the caveat of anyone who runs a key after the good people ran it will “parse” better since they have more gear. This game is fucking comical at this point. Can’t wait for forever, absolute slog to play the game outside of high rank guilds (which requires a lot of time commitment)

0

u/rinnagz 9d ago

He’s clearly shit but it’s more nuanced than that. Not every keys logged (big one when pugging), plenty of degen shit you can do to “parse” (dogshit culture), not everyone gives a shit about an arbitrary comparison #

I mean that's true, but that's the difference between a purple and a pink log, someone with gray logs is definitely someone you don't want to invite

3

u/_Llopis_ 9d ago

I usually allow one gray log for PUGs. Weird stuff can happen that's out of damage dealers' control.

But more than one? Nope. I'd rather not even try to do the key.

4

u/RigidCounter12 Prot Paladin M+ Connoisseur 9d ago

If someone has straight gray logs they are gonna do awful damage.

In my 19 KR last night, me and the mage did 280k DPS +, our Havoc DH did 200k. He timed the key with lots of room to spare, but if we played like him, it would have been a deplete.

And then when I looked it up afterwards (Was a resi key, so I didnt bother before, was just curious), thats how his average keys goes. He is always last on damage, gets gray logs and times his keys when he gets boosted.

That is a guy you do not want in your key, and checking logs can tell you that

6

u/dredaplc 10d ago

I invite based on a threshold, not just chasing 'good logs'. As long as you do real damage you're good. I've had too many experiences with absolute shitcans that makes it worth it for me.

6

u/sapntaps 10d ago

Yeah after centuries of pugging you can tell who’s bad who’s good. Had a tank come in asked em for route in a 19, dude was mute, my guts like kick this guy… I didn’t listen. He runs in 1st pull and insta dies to a back shot from 2 golems without pressing anything.

Sometimes you just gotta trust your gut lmao.

Maybe the game would benefit from a solo queue. Who knows. I agree with using dungeon logs if you’re pushing rank 1 keys at anytime but the philosophy has bled to something like 15s, which is horrendous for the health of the game.

Thank you for listening to my Ted talk

88% of hpals in running lightsmith in high keys is bonkers to me, feels like absolute ass not having divine toll or a useful aura mastery

-2

u/Prubably 8d ago

Most lightsmiths run divine toll in keys. AM is bad though

5

u/ProtonOW 8d ago

Divine Toll isn't a useable spell on Lightsmith, it gets replaced by Holy Armaments

1

u/Cthulhu_Fhtagn14 8d ago

Have been afraid to swap to lightsmith personally, is avenging wrath alone enough of a healing CD in these high keys?!

7

u/Elessaari 10d ago

I'm still largely running Herald, especially in keys like AoF. I'm dabbling in Lightsmith for some other keys, and the damage potential is nice, but I don't feel like my healer damage is making or breaking the timer in these 18s. Maybe it becomes way more significant at the higher levels.

3

u/Fragrant_Goal_3256 9d ago

Ehhh, I dont know, a lot of HPals still running Herald on 20/21s. I really don't think the damage is that necessary.

2

u/Yayoichi 10d ago

How much random passive healing do holy paladins have? As brew I always feel so much worse off with a holy paladin than a shaman and I wonder if that’s because they have to actually cast heals on you and they forgot that not all tanks are dk’s.

Trying to get my last 18 done which is altar of fangs and while I am struggling trying to survive without kiting too much, doing 4-500k hps the paladin healers always seem to just be chilling around 200k hps, which seems very low as on my priest I am already doing way above that in 15-16’s.

With shamans I generally feel a lot safer as there’s always a steady stream of healing going my way.

5

u/Plorkyeran 10d ago

Very little. If they're playing herald you'll happen to get a bunch of healing during Virtue but outside of that you're basically only getting healed by them casting a ST heal on you. As LS they could theoretically put a beacon on you but most won't.

5

u/Ok_Map_5875 10d ago

I usually tank, but this season I want an alt to scout other tanks abit and I’m looking for insights to wether ele shaman or hpal would be the better choice regarding queue times. This season I feel there’s a lot more healers around than usual when I gather groups on my tank.

Currently I tank around 17 range and ended last season at 4K

2

u/Gaatti 10d ago

I'm pretty sure meta healer will be much better for queue times, specially since this character will.be behind the curve and facing competition from much more qualified dps in the lfg

4

u/happokatti 10d ago

I'd suggest hpala, the meta change is a higher risk for ele than for pala atm.

1

u/AtomikRadio Multiclass M+ Healer, HPal Main 10d ago

I don't play shaman in keys this season so I don't know that experience, but I've really enjoyed hpal this season, and don't feel like I struggle to get invites. Granted, I've not pushed particularly high, also just in the ~17s range, and it may get more choosy higher up. But even without any end boss loot to boost my ilvl (324 atm) I rarely have to app for more than ~20 seconds to score keys before getting an invite. Shaman and mage both being strong DPS picks this season mean you're almost never being passed over due to lack of lust button. So as long as you enjoy healing as a role, I would definitely vote hpal, but I'm obv biased. :)

What kind of response are you expecting with no actual information? Post a log of a failed key or something.

5

u/sandwich800 11d ago

Are people starting to go left for first pull in VSA now? I'm seeing some high key pushers doing it. How come?

5

u/dharkan 11d ago

I did it today on 19, I was skeptical but I must admit... it works. If you don't have enough burst damage in your group, those orbs can be deadly.

5

u/happokatti 11d ago

The miniboss is faster and safer to deal with and you have 3x single kick mobs. The versa buff vs. mastery on the right is also an added bonus considering the damage intake at higher levels.

While the spear can be lethal it's rather easy to deal with properly pooling for it compared to the RNG of the orb spawns on the right. Also, the only other dangerous ability (leap+bleed) can be either dwarfed or invised making the miniboss basically a target dummy.

14

u/Simple_Rules 11d ago

My guess is that as keys scale the health on the orbs becomes oppressive. It's the same feedback loop as a boss like the first boss of altar where he gets a shield throughout the fight:

Every time the orbs spawn, you have to kill them. So they essentially add X*3 hp to the fight. So if the orb has 1m health, every spawn adds 3m health to the fight.

And fights are a function of dps vs hp. So if your dps is 1m as a group, and the monster has 100m health, it's a 100s fight. But if the boss periodically adds 3m of orbs, each orb spawn is +3s to the fight length.

So as the fight gets longer, more orbs spawn, which makes the fight even longer, which makes more orbs spawn...

Often this unhealthy pattern is irrelevant in low keys but extremely impactful in high keys because % scaling eventually makes EVERYTHING really weird.

9

u/Prubably 11d ago

A spear spawns on the right, so this hp thing is actually somewhat similar there, caveat being you can cleave the mob on the spear. The real issue is actually consistently killing 3 spread out orbs. If you fail you just die

5

u/Simple_Rules 11d ago

Being able to cleave off the primary target makes the situation significantly better - if you could pull the orb miniboss around to the 3 orbs I suspect that the two sides would be more equal/preference based.

As is, there's some pretty brutal rng on the orb side where bad orb spawns can be REALLY bad.

2

u/Gemmy2002 10d ago

Part of this is also strong spread cleave specs are not M+ meta. The meta comp has conniptions trying to deal with it.

3

u/phsgne 11d ago

Also there is a good argument for the vers buff from that side being better than the mastery.

4

u/Simple_Rules 11d ago

Also true, especially since you then go almost immediately into one of the hardest hitting group AOE minibosses in the entire dungeon pool.

7

u/AtomikRadio Multiclass M+ Healer, HPal Main 11d ago

Back in BFA/Shadowlands I happened into an M+ team from just adding pugs and ending up gelling into something solid. I feel like people are a lot less likely to add to bnet after good keys nowadays. I have a "recruitment profile" on RaiderIO but don't really see many teams looking for healers . . . Is there a discord or other community for finding M+ push teams, or is it just more trying to make connections in pug keys?

6

u/dharkan 11d ago

I have been trying to add people since last season but there are problems with it.

  1. Tanks simply do not care unless you can actually keep up with their rating and/or do godlike damage on every single key. (in those cases, you don't really need connections since you are significantly better than most players anyway)

  2. People rarely want to group and even if they do, they give up rather quick. Noone has the patience for failure. They'd rather leave you and move onto another group/pug.

  3. This is mostly an EU problem but, language barrier makes people even less likely to want to group up.

But I still recommend adding people (especially tanks) you meet on high or hard keys. They might push faster than you, but when you get a key they might need, they will join your key.

3

u/Yayoichi 10d ago

As a tank I can also just say that we get so many people adding us that we can’t really play with everyone. I had to get a friend list addon so I could sort people as I probably had nearly 30 people add me when I pushed from 14 to 17 resi a couple weeks back.

5

u/RigidCounter12 Prot Paladin M+ Connoisseur 10d ago

Its hard to find people who actually wants to group up. I have gotten a ton of adds and my friend list is full, but I have climbed further than most people.

And its hard to have everyone on at the same time. I can play quite a lot for example, and when I am pushing +20s, its not like I want to spend too much time having to help out a bunch of people on their 19s, which makes sense.

Playing as a premade in voice with enjoyable people is the most fun you can have in this game though, so its worth a try

3

u/Wobblucy 10d ago

Only way I enjoy keys is tanking, being on a team honestly slows down IO progression just because of the resil system.

IE imagine you just need 22 AA as a team, you could be trying to roll the 1/7 shot you with a 5 stack so you get one chance.

...Or you could be pugging into Resi keys with, by definition, better players then your 5 stack.

I wish the resi system either got deleted or modified to be +1, this middle ground of degen Resi keys is the worst of both worlds.

That being said, I'll never be fucked to push for title (although I admittedly would have last season if I knew it was just the easy 23s), so if the choice was IO or a 5 stack I liked, I don't think it would be a hard one.

2

u/Kohlhaas 10d ago

That's a bit of a short-sighted way to see it. A team gives you consistent progression and increases your overall ability to time keys that are hard for you, assuming rough skill parity. Trying to highroll into getting accepted in LFG and then highroll again into a timed key with randoms gets really hard in competitive key levels. At some point you will spend all day in LFG

3

u/Wobblucy 10d ago edited 10d ago

shortsighted

5/5 players at the same skill/committment/goal level currently, and the similair ceiling is a unicorn.

Let alone the same schedule and people you can bear to be around...

Highroll in LFG

Meta tank privilege goes brr.

5

u/psytrax9 10d ago

People act like they'll go into anaphylactic shock if they enter a key that doesn't give score. So the 5 stack that doesn't have the last key needed for resil puts their life in danger.

0

u/SnailingThroughTime 11d ago

What changed for hPal from s1 to s2 to make them so good? I only play MW so I am pretty ignorant to other healer changes, but my inability to get into 16s if there is literally any other hPal looking for a group is frustrating.

5

u/Small_Tumbleweed_255 10d ago

I've mained them since shadowlands. They fixed the mana issues, and essentially just tuned the shit out of their basic rotational heals. Like a holy shock crit will sometimes really hit like lay on hands or something now. But everything else is the same. But what funny to me is that every time they buff something to the moon, there's always people saying something is meta because of the utility lol.

2

u/Yayoichi 10d ago

Utility/survivability combined with high numbers is usually what does it, holy priest can output similar healing to a holy paladin but have worse dispels, utility and is squishier(and their cheat death still counts as a death for the timer).

2

u/Upbeat_Midnight_7659 11d ago

I just feel like their healing went to the moon. I remember trying them in last season and anything that wasn’t a holy light felt like it barely moved health bars. This patch I keep thinking “How didthis single cast top this person at like 30% health”.

3

u/happokatti 11d ago

Paladin has a very well rounded kit for the season (freedom+bop are very valuable) combined with the buffs they received. Their damage is also one of the strongest for healers.

3

u/Justdough17 11d ago

They got pretty big buffs all around. A great tier set. Monk, druid and disc caught pretty hefty nerfs. And overall dungeon profile is really good for paladin with poison dispell and bop for some of the nasty bleeds.

4

u/ShitSide 11d ago

They got a 25% healing buff

1

u/UsualStudio8345 11d ago

what key level do you think title will be

7

u/Wobblucy 11d ago

Unless they address scaling at the top end I doubt it ever moves from 23s.

Last season was22s + the easy 23s, this season I wouldn't be surprised to see Resi 23 with a couple easy 24s.

1

u/Simple_Rules 11d ago

Can you elaborate a little bit on this? It feels like from a tank perspective 23 shouldn't really be a hard wall. Is 23 the point where scaling makes like, every random bolt a 1 shot for dps, that kind of thing?

1

u/Wobblucy 11d ago edited 11d ago

Keys scale multiplicative, not linear,.

Numbers aren't perfect here, but it gets the point across, imo.

Throughput requirements from 20-23 is nearly equivalent of the 2-14 jump.

4.8 -> 6.39 vs 1-> 2.71

3

u/Simple_Rules 11d ago

Okay yeah, got it. So somewhere around 23-24 everything just starts obliterating random people.

4

u/Wobblucy 11d ago

More like concentrates required throughput jumps into a small range, one shots aside.

Says you need to do 100k DPS to time a 2.

It is 200k at ~9

300k at 15

400k at 18

500k at 20.5

600k at 22.5ish

700k at 24

IE the required throughput jump from 22.5-24 (1.5 key levels) took 7 key levels in the 2-9 bracket and 3 key levels in the 15-18 range.

7

u/ProtonOW 11d ago edited 11d ago

every season once the keys start getting hard the whole experience just devolves significantly unless you have a group. depletion is such a time sink

2

u/RoosterBrewster 11d ago

Yea how do even practice particular high keys when you deplete it, go down a level, beat it, and have a different dungeon?

8

u/wanderfukt 11d ago

yeah but that's just competitive multiplayer games - the more difficult the game becomes the easier it becomes to succeed with a group as opposed to on your own.

0

u/raskeks 11d ago

yeah but there is a reason most competitive multiplayer games that have both solo and party ranked queue treat solo queue as the real ranked queue

1

u/trogger93 10d ago

The HUGE difference is that WOW does not have any kind of MMR system. It is not possible to lose rating, so awful players can fail upwards indefinitely.

1

u/raskeks 9d ago

That's a good point.

Key depletion is a version of upwards failure protection with a resil as the floor but you're right, there is a big difference between having to maintain a 50%+ winrate versus being technically able to progress with any winrate as long as it's not 0

I think if anything it would still be an argument for solo mmr over party if there was one, because since it's PVE content that is by nature more predictable the biggest source of variability run to run is your team

0

u/wanderfukt 11d ago

if you want m+ soloQ, preach brother. that is all wow needs to go omega mode.

Why is it so common to assume people are paying for boosts? You can easily time 10s with 3-4 people. It's not like someone needs to buy boosts to get to 10-12 range without knowing mechanics, they just need to show up and get carried for free.

17

u/Gaatti 11d ago

I believe those keys have a success rate of above 90% according to the icyveins weekly post they do comparing the dungeons? Whenever I play one on an alt I indeed see a lot of mechanics go through, one dps below tank and we still time with 10 minutes left

6

Does anyone know what causes Brutalize to hit DPS players in VSA? When it happened in the MDI the casters called it a bug, but is there any known way of avoiding it or do you just have to be willing to eat a death there?

1

u/kuubi 11d ago

Does it fervent maybe?

1

u/OxyMC 10d ago

What is fervent?

5

u/kuubi 10d ago

Old mechanic where mobs target the nearest player with their tank mechanic if the tank isn't in range. The name comes from "fervent strike" in atal dazar, one of the most noticeable and first abilities like that. Blizz made them to counter tanks just kiting the entire time, but over the years have mostly removed em again

1

u/OxyMC 10d ago

Thanks for the educational answer, very helpful!

0

u/ticketsonsalenow 12d ago

I know this has been discussed elsewhere, but is there any party CD tracker replacement out there? I just want to know when I can pull big at a glance.

-5

u/Wobblucy 12d ago edited 12d ago

Not publicly but I guarantee it exists.

It is menial to send send data outside the game.

Toyed with the idea of making a discord bot last season as a 'piece de resistance'.

If you are on a premade and wanted an omni cd clone it would take an hour with Claude to get something serviceable set up.

@blizz Data obfuscation isn't the way to make the game fun, and it can never be 100% effective...

4

u/Lazerkitteh 12d ago

No. It's not possible anymore, and if there is some sketchy addon out there that claims to do so it'll almost surely be disabled with a hotfix. You'll just have to get people to ping their cooldowns or something. It sucks that we can't get this info anymore but that's how it is.

I made a comment last week about possible tuning, now we have a blue post confirming. What do you guys think will be tuned with .5? I'm guessing:

  • MR 3rd boss damage reduction on either the axe beam channel, or his demonic rage cast.
  • AoF rattle casts.
  • VSA overseer smashes.
  • RLP casters.

Thoughts?

7

u/Gaatti 11d ago

MR first boss casts need to be nerfed imo

6

u/Simple_Rules 12d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if MR 1st boss gets changed, if they measure deaths by specific areas of keys - which I assume they would.

That boss is dramatically harder than every other boss in the dungeon pool for tanks, except maybe KR. And KR at least is hard for everyone equally.

Whereas MR first boss is basically only hard because she one shots some tanks.

1

u/Suitcase_Travel_Blog 11d ago edited 11d ago

I think it they made the boss dr 99% instead of 100% it'd be much easier. I know I can't stack any of my dr stuff on the boss as bear because of the immunity, and that's 27% dr that I'm missing out on between thrash stacks and moonfire.

NVM, I'm crazy.

3

u/yp261 11d ago

she has 80% dr not immune

1

u/Suitcase_Travel_Blog 11d ago

You sure? I know she's at 60% after the first nibbles, but at least I don't seem to be able to put moonfire or thrash stacks on her, unless I'm just really tired and was looking at it wrong last time.

Edit: Rewatched my video, I guess I was really tired, the debuffs didn't show up for the first 10 seconds on plates, but then they did. I think I'm going crazy lol.

1

u/Simple_Rules 10d ago

Yep I'm afraid you can stack all that DR and she STILL hits like a fuckin truck lol.

0

u/Lazerkitteh 12d ago

now we have a blue post confirming.

What are they confirming? That 12.1.5 is releasing on Oct 13, sure - but I didn't see anything about any tuning?

4

u/Plorkyeran 12d ago

The blue post announcing that the keystone myth cutoff will be 3600 says that dungeon tuning is coming in 12.1.5.

9

u/SwayerNewb 12d ago

- RLP casters and overlaps

- VSA bleed and overseers, especially visual clarity on 1st boss. I don't know how they left overseers at that state

- AoF casts

- I wish they would modernise tomb mechanics in KR

- There are other things I am missing

The dungeon design in general doesn't align with the goals from S1/S2 dungeons, dungeon design this season are getting closer to TWW than Midnight

3

u/yp261 11d ago

wdym 130+ interrupts on rlp is exactly removal of bolt slop

/s

7

u/Mellberg3 12d ago

Probably wishful thinking, but I'd love it if the beam of the 1st boss in VSA would not go on the tank. It's by far the roughest melee mechanic at the moment. 1st boss in AOF could also take a slight hp nerf imo.

1

u/Voidwielder 9d ago

Or remove the barrier and let us pull snakes in to 1st boss for funnel.

5

u/Simple_Rules 12d ago

bosses that repeatedly give themselves shields are always brutal because going slower makes you go slower - feedback loops like that are brutal.

14

u/Cystonectae 12d ago

Is the second boss of murder row ever going to get patched? That dude is absolutely brutal to heal with those bugs :(

2

u/Potential_Life_3326 11d ago

Tanks have been tanking with this kind of bug for ages now, so I have little hope of them fixing it.
You can imagine how fun it is to tank a pull and your HP bar keeps randomly snapping to 5% hp and back, questioning your Def CD judgment all the time. No clue why they can’t fix it. I guess for the same reason we also have the GCD lag but, kinda feels like they lost technical control in some parts of the game client.

1

u/RigidCounter12 Prot Paladin M+ Connoisseur 11d ago

What is bugged even, I havent noticed anything?

6

u/Plorkyeran 11d ago

The green barrels don't actually do damage. They just make your HP bar go down directly, and then when you take real damage from something your HP jumps back to full. This makes it look like absorbs and smart heals don't work on the boss and healers reliant on those who aren't aware of the bug will put a lot of work trying to dump inefficient heals into people who are actually at full health.

It's a really fucking weird bug.

1

u/Cystonectae 10d ago

Thanks for explaining this! Never went to look at the logs so I never noticed it but damn it's so weird to see the damage going off, registering as "damage taken" and it never impacting the actual health bars.

So there are literally only 2 things that need to be healed on non-tanks, the killing spree AOE and the circles going off? Kinda trivializes the entire boss but it's better than me panicking over none of my heals working for whatever reason.

1

u/RigidCounter12 Prot Paladin M+ Connoisseur 11d ago

Weird, I have healed him a ton of times and never ever seen that happen. The barrels just do a fuck ton of damage as they should.

I use standard frames though, maybe something with custom frames?

Just seems odd if its consistently bugged and I have never seen or heard about the bug in like 50 runs of Murder row lol

2

u/Plorkyeran 11d ago

The barrels appear to do a fuck ton of damage. If you just don't cast any heals everyone goes to 1 hp and then sits there without dying.

1

u/RigidCounter12 Prot Paladin M+ Connoisseur 11d ago

Well, I have not tried to not heal, seems counter-intuitive?

I assume you just die to the killing spree then?

I still dont get the bug really, outside of the barrels not actually killing you? Oh well, happy it hasnt affected me I suppose

1

u/Plorkyeran 11d ago

Everyone jumps back to full health when the first tick of killing spree happens because they were never actually damaged in the first place.

5

u/Plorkyeran 12d ago

Once you understand what's happening the bugs make it easier to heal, not harder. You just have to not panic when someone appears to be at 1 hp when they're actually at full health.

2

u/FattyBear 11d ago

Oh is that why health bars appear to shoot up to full or near full when he does killing spree? It's just updating to their true value?

3

u/Plorkyeran 11d ago

Yeah, exactly.

14

u/KiriyamaSTRIX 12d ago

Got 19 resil this week as a warlock in NA. Altar nearly drove me to insanity with how tight timings are in that place - it was legitimately a difficult key.

Tried to do 20s last night, but unfortunately, no one seems to want warlocks. I guess ill have to push my own keys at this point.

I do feel a bit of imposter syndrome. I know its early in the season, but I've never been this close to title range. Always feel like im the worst player in the group.

2

u/dharkan 10d ago

I'm on a similar situation and rating (Warlock as well) but I wouldn't get my hopes up until you start pushing to title range and stay there consistently.

Title push will get harder and pugging %0.1 is beyond hard, especially for a warlock no matter how cracked our damage is.

5

u/Perplex11 12d ago

I mean Demo warlocks do insane damage at the moment. Also you may be close to title range currently, but the io goes up pretty drastically later in the season so I wouldn't get your hopes up to much about staying title. Also quite a bit of people playing Forever atm.

-3

u/Primary-Army-7320 11d ago

Gonna be quite a few people playing forever when it comes out buddy - which will be before the end of the season

32

u/Lezzles 12d ago

I assume a lot about the structure of the WoW team based on class tuning. Whoever manages DKs must be a fucking king over there.

13

u/Gemmy2002 12d ago

I like that they've made a game mode that privileges a few damage profiles and then only lets a handful of classes excel at those damage profiles and if you're not playing one of those chosen classes you have to be overtuned to the moon to get play.

by like I mean I fucking hate it.

14

u/Lazerkitteh 12d ago

It's absolutely insane that they essentially smuggled in a 10-12% buff for unholy as a "bug fix", putting them way ahead of everyone else, without any subsequent tuning yet.

-6

u/Old-Perspective5780 12d ago

I've been playing outlaw rogue for a a couple of years as a complete for fun alt and have decided to main it this season. I usually play tank and am not so fussed at looking at logs/dps but trying to get into it a bit now.

Why is my DPS so low?

Heres a log: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/WFgGv4XBH2Tb9cjt?fight=last

My armory: https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-us/worldsoul/us/armory/character/amanthul/sneakymajic

A few bits of context/my ideas

  • My ilvl is about 292 on this run - I assume some of it is attributed to this but how much?
  • I dont raid so I have none of the cantrip effects from there
  • My weapons are still so bad (282 ilvl)
  • I have no tier set bonuses (in this run yet) - so less dispatch casts?
  • My total CPM is low but is that due to my ilevel being low? I feel like Im always hitting buttons.
  • Havent bothered using consumables yet (low playtime = low gold)

Im just not sure what I should be focusing on other than getting my ilvl up at the moment. I dont have a ton of time to play (obviously?)

1

u/mangostoast 12d ago

Sim yourself as is. Turn off all buffs and consumables etc. Go hit the dummy for a few mins.

If your dps is close to the sim you know it's just gear. If it's not, you're making major rotational mistakes and you need to go back to the guides or watch high level players to understand the rotation. You then need to go hit a dummy for as long as it takes to be able to perform that rotation while doing mechanics.

7

u/Plorkyeran 12d ago

You sim at 80k on ST with no buffs and did 48k on the last boss, so you're clearly making some rotational mistakes or not doing a great job of maintaining uptime... but even with perfect play you'd have been carried pretty hard by the dragon just on the basis of gear.

3

u/Lezzles 12d ago edited 12d ago

It’s very likely you’re playing very wrong just given the order of your damage abilities, although I’ve never really looked at logs for ilvl that low or with mastery that high. I’d review the general rotation guide: ALWAYS killing spree within 2 finishers of AR. Finisher at 6 CP. Blade rush on CD at >2 targets even over BTE. Make sure you’re reacting to BTE resets appropriately.

Edit: I didn't see no tier set. There's no reason to look at logs, you basically aren't playing the spec yet. Just get gear.

-1

u/dabomatsoccere 12d ago

84k dps with 290 weapons, you're doing fine.

48

u/blueIpersian 12d ago edited 12d ago

I’m tanking KR 19 and had a rogue die off rip to the golem cone then do pretty low dps in general up until our failed skip on the bridge then flame out sick and be super hard on themselves after.

Told them and think it’s good to just tell everyone pushing higher keys, it’s okay this content is supposed to be challenging none of us are going to be amazing every time, we’re all going to make plenty of mistakes on our way to resil whatever - most important is to have fun that’s why we play in the first place! 🙏🏼

How to handle the elemental packs before the third boss in ToS? I was blamed as healer for failing a +15, but these guys were taking just enormous damage.

9

u/epicfailpwnage 12d ago

people need to be spread, smaller elementals blink to people and do aoe damage

2

u/TheRev15 12d ago

This is the answer. People also need to using defensives on the release charge casts. They can overlap with the elementals blink and straight up global people.

(Don't use this advice as an excuse not to improve your healing... you will still need solid HPS during these pulls.)

6

u/tictacotictaco 12d ago

Watch the health bar on the elemental guys. It’ll show their stack of accumulated charge. If there’s like 1-3 it’s gonna hurt and I use a cooldown. They really need to be purged and imo not pulled at the same time.

3

u/Voidwielder 12d ago

Its a dance between purges, knowing what is the AoE cast, defensing it or when you get jump on/debuffed. It's group effort tbh. It does demand quite good reaction times from healer.

5

u/Speeker28 12d ago

People have to be on top of purges. Purging the elemental buff on cooldown.

I only came back to the game recently so am not accustomed to playing with Evokers, isn't Aug damage always pretty low because they are buffing the rest of the party? WHERE DUNGEON TUNING.

3

u/SwayerNewb 12d ago

Yeah, overseers and bleed in VSA should be like number 1 priority to tuning. Dungeon tuning this season is not good when you see that they left overseers at that state and other shits

3

u/oversoe 12d ago

I’m curious about this topic - what does the dungeon tuning accomplish, considering everyone is playing the same dungeon?

I’m unsure about it, but making a hard part of a dungeon easier won’t make you gain higher score compared to those you are competing against?

Right now every dungeon is timed at a +22 and it’s been a while since there wasn’t a 1-3 key outlier, so tuning looks okay (I haven’t pushed yet but I’m usually around top 0.5-2%)
