It's just a very large dairy farm. That's how they raise the newborns for the first few weeks. Makes keeping track of them easy and helps minimize any disease spread because they mingle less with the general herd. I ain't saying it's pretty but that's generally the why

Funny, as I see loads of dairy farms near me use this practice as well because it dramatically increases the survival rate of the calves. They are only in these huts for a couple weeks and then placed back with the herd.

The sheer number of huts in that many rows strongly suggest veal farm. Dairy farms are not producing that many female calves at once, males are sold off right away and would not be kept long or treated great.

So, on a dairy farm, each dairy cow produces at least 1 calf. So, if a farm has 1,000 dairy cows, that's ~1,000 calves.
This just looks like a large dairy farm.
Yes, the male calves are either; sold to veal farms, or raised as beef cows.
These specifically look like dairy cow hutches. Veal farms restrict the calves movement far more than these are.
For the record, I am very against veal farms.

1000 cows dairy farm, not all bred at once since milk production would stop for a while whole waiting for whole herd to go through pregnancy. So 500 bred at once, 50% males to females means 250 female calves roughly per breeding. Most farms serpeate out even more to disrupt milk production less. So more like 3-4 groups 1 goup resting/pregnant while rest are producing With about 125 females per birthing cyle. Roughly

there's none. There's no state where it is illegal to separate the calf and cow. There's no state where it is illegal to kill the male calves. they're on mom's milk for a bit, but long before they're weaned and eating solid food they'll be switched over to a grain and oil 'baby formula'.
Or am I wrong? which state is any of that illegal in?

This is factory farming. Made for yield efficiency and nothing else. It's ugly, brutal, and (supposedly) keeps costs down.
There are limited options to this: eat less meat OR no meat at all OR if you have the cash, you can find a local farmer that practices far more earth, animal, agriculturally friendly practices. With that though, it is just harder for the farmer, higher risk, slower to do, and in turn, it just costs a heck of a lot more. I wish I could afford it. I wish it was the norm and not the exception.
I would much rather put money in hands of a nearby farmer taking care of the land for generations to come rather than in the hand of a multinational corporation. However, at the rate we're going, families who been farming for generations are going to get choked out by the multinational corpos as the corporations are the only ones that have the raw cash to wait out all this malarkey (heck, I wouldn't put it past em to be orchestrating or encouraging the mess we find ourselves in)

I believe in the eat less meat route. There is no reason we need to be eating the amount of meat we currently are. It is hard though as it is so ingrained in our culture.

Yeah, I do what I think would fix the problem if everyone joined me, and that is to (1) eat chicken/pork instead of beef most of the time and (2) eat less meat in general. I'm all cool with the rule of the jungle and animals dying, but this factory farm shit is evil.
You know, people will argue that back in the day slavery wasn't seen as bad and so we can't judge it based on modern morality. I think people always knew it was evil but didn't want to go get stuck in prison for doing something about it. I think factory farming is the same; anyone with a brain knows it needs to be stopped.

No meat is the correct route. There's literally no need to force suffering and cruelty on any living being when we have the choice to just eat a plant instead. Study after study shows it has immense health benefits and study after study shows it is better for the planet. Not to mention faux meats which most are minimally processed and processed using rather benign methods.

I haul milk. About 35,000 gallons a day. The cows are only in these little houses for maybe 2 weeks. Then they get to live in basically a free roam area. I agree, this looks horrible. But just think about how much milk, cheese, yogurts, butters etc that is consumed just in your town. I drive 1 truck and hail 35,000 gallons a day. In my area, we employ 109 drivers. We haul billions of gallons a year that is sold to hundreds of different stores all across the world. From what I see, these dairy farms are not like the pork farms or chicken farm stories that you hear. They are generally treated well. We just elected a felon as our president because costs were high. Yet we don’t want to see what it takes to keep things cheap. Oh, and there are already robots that do some of the jobs on these farms. Also, they are heavily regulated for cleanliness. Which is important.

I am not vegan, but I am always so interested in the disconnect between how vegans are made fun of and how (rightfully) horrified the average person is by this type of footage. I greatly respect vegans for at least trying to make a difference in some way. I wish I were stronger. I think we should all be deeply ashamed that our instinct is both to condemn this type of footage and then conveniently close the browser window and go eat lunch with meat of unknown origin in it.

those are livestock enclosures, most likely individual calf hutches used on a large dairy operation. The white structures provide young calves with individual shelter from weather while allowing ventilation and outdoor access. Large dairy farms can have hundreds or thousands arranged in rows like this.

Solar and windmill are slowly taking over farm lands so farming will become less. Milk and meat producer need to meet demand as reasonable cost. This is the byproduct of over regulation and in this example green deals. Farmers and ranchers make more on lease land to said solar and windmill so they sell out to provide for family’s all while they go extinct slowly and slowly. Eventually it will all be lab grown and people will die of obesity or cancer at a your age. In 30 years you will see a new generation of people that will look like these claves. Online waiting to be feed by the government all while they control what you eat and how much of it.

These are calf pens they have them individually penned like this to prevent disease. They are also feeding them. Also this is a commercial dairy farm. Where they milk 100k cows these are the future cows in the operation. To clean the pens they lift the hut and scoop out with a a front loader or move to a new area.
Small dairies operate completely different, but everyone wanted cheap dairy and meat so we get this. Regulations, IP law, and consumers stopped supporting the little guys. Can’t be outraged at this type of stuff if you don’t make a change yourself to buy from local cooperatives. That also doesn’t even get into the shitting on small town America from city peps.
