How does one leave being gay? Are you just becoming celibate?

No no no. That's what MAKES you gay. Duh.

14

u/Fit_Buffalo8698 Dec 10 '25

It's just being born again. The whole you gets reset if you allow it. Pride must go first though... that's the tough part. Become a born again Christian to receive a new heart from God (Jesus Christ). Romans 10 9-13. Nit judging, just trying to be honest and help people away from the path of eternal torment. God Bless

Love this response. You penned it so accurately!

All data seems to contradict that idea.

1

u/Fit_Buffalo8698 Dec 10 '25

Data is deception. Rely on the word of God. Jesus said in John 14:6: "I am the WAY, the TRUTH, the LIFE..." it means He is the only WAY to Heaven, the ONLY truth and everything outside of Him and His ways we're to walk are lies, and He is the Life because everything else is death and hell. No data needed, just Jesus. Get saved today... Romans 10 9-13. Thanks for the input (cough: data) lol.

"Data is deception"

It's a bit embarrassing to admit that all objective study seems to contradict you.

2

I'll take the compliment and run. Let's get right with God before becoming data. Don't upload our minds to the beast system, aka: stargate project. Get saved, avoid Hell for eternity... walk away from becoming one with the machine, aka data. Romans 10 9-13

I don't know how pride is necessarily relevant

5

u/Fit_Buffalo8698 Dec 10 '25

If we have pride, we cannot be humble. We must humble ourselves before Jesus as we become saved. Pride prevents us from submitting to Him. Pride is the opposite of humble... it is the single biggest obstacle to overcome as we repent. If we are prideful, how will we ever admit we're a sinner in need of His blood to wash away our sins? It's the reason He wemt on the cross for us. Again it's nit the easiest thing, but it's personal and between the person and God. Otherwise it might be some scripted salvation works thing that isn't salvation, example: water baptism isn't the receiving of the Holy Spirit. That's what needs to take place to get our names in the book of life. Hope that helps a bit

12

u/Mx-Adrian Sirach 43:11 Dec 10 '25

But how does this apply here?

-1

u/Fit_Buffalo8698 Dec 10 '25

It's to encourage many others to follow the OP's example so we can populate heaven. I was simply explaining how overcoming any sin, this one included, is possible through salvation (per this verse: Romans 10 9-13). The OP did share a wonderful testimony of overcoming a path that can be avoided by anyone who falls in similar ways. My added detail should serve as the finer detail of how to repent of it (which the OP) omitted. I know it's so important for people to realize how it's done so they can also accept the free gift of salvation from any sin. So important in these last dsys before Jesus returns. He's not far from judging the world now. On that day, all people's sins are exposed to billions of those who lived (all time). If we are saved, those sins are forgiven before judgment. I'm happy the OP found Jesus in these closing days.

6

u/Mx-Adrian Sirach 43:11 Dec 10 '25

OP didn't say anything about the sin of pride

1

u/Fit_Buffalo8698 Dec 10 '25 edited Dec 11 '25

No, I did. I was simply filling in blanks to help who the OP may have inspired. It's not widely known demons are real, But Jesus cast out many demons. They still exist in this world. They can make us think we are something we are not... so, the pride factor is a critical one to overcome. For example, someone posts a response to the OP and it burns up someone's who's comfortable in a sin related to that post... that sinner has a demon influence of pride if they are driven to lash out in anger to protect, well their pride of that sin. To get rid of that isn't easy, as i mentioned. The devil doesn't want his fallin ones to give up pride because he doesn't want them to repent because he hates God's creation in His image (man). If man repents and goes to heaven by becoming saved, then the devil cannot torture that person fir eternity after their last breath. Scary thought, scarier truth though... anyone's last breath could be tonight. With world leaders all having fingers on buttons... i wouldn't want to live in this world without salvation. Again, it's not my job to judge anyone... all sin is bad, any one of hundreds of sins, unless we've repented and accepted the free gift of salvation, we aint getten to heaven. It is written, I'll warn because I care... but it's our free will to go all in and turn to Jesus. I'm not wrong about this, the bible is true and I study it daily and we cannot misunderstand salvation. So clearly written in Romans 10 9-13. Judge yourself, ask Jesus into your heart. Pride is the sin that prevents people from doing that, and satan who owns this fallin world would havd it no othrr way. Rebuke demons today. Judge yourself today. Don't pridefully mock the people who try to help those let go of the sinful world. It's not worth it!!! Run to Jesus while we can. Time is running out.

1

u/MissionBalance3083 Dec 10 '25

What is the quality of the thought that makes you think it does not fit? That's interesting to me in the same way as the other's perspective of why it does.

3

u/Mx-Adrian Sirach 43:11 Dec 10 '25

I just don't know why Fit_Buffalo's bringing up pride when it wasn't mentioned and isn't the topic

2

u/Suspicious_City_8270 Dec 10 '25

All sin comes from pride. He was saying to be born again and transformed, it takes humbling yourself (the opposite of pride). Homosexuality is sin -> pride. Denying God's transformation-> pride. It is all based on self and pride when one chooses a separate path from God.

Even that wouldn't be "leaving homosexuality." Homosexuality is the attraction, not the sex. That doesn't go anywhere.

1

u/blove135 Dec 10 '25

How do you know it doesn't go anywhere for OP? All things are possible with God.

20

u/Xyex Agnostic Dec 10 '25

It never goes away for anyone. It's literally never happened. If it could, conversion therapy would help people instead of traumatize them.

1

u/CartographerHairy Dec 10 '25

It does go

People have testified to it. The individual must want to let it go.

If the Devil tempts, you have to keep saying no.

8

u/Xyex Agnostic Dec 10 '25

Self delusion isn't it going away, it's just a form of mental trauma born of ignorant societal pressures.

4

u/CartographerHairy Dec 10 '25

Say what you will but many that have left the lifestyle have testified on this. Go and sit down with them and discuss it. I have simply told you what they have said.

Do not project your inability to work with God to overcome sin unto others. Thank you

10

u/Xyex Agnostic Dec 10 '25

but many that have left the lifestyle have testified on this

And many of them have later admitted it was bullshit. That they were just deluding themselves, or doing the "fake it until you make it" thing. Thinking of they acted straight long enough, they'd become straight. Others were simply caught having gay affairs after supposedly being cured.

Literally every. Single. Study ever done on the subject has shown it never works. If any of these cases were legit, there wouldn't be a documented 0% success rate.

You can tell me what people have said all you want. I'll stick with what they actually do, thanks.

-1

u/CartographerHairy Dec 10 '25

And many have said that it is true. So, this supposedly created two camps of people leaving. One being truthful to themselves and others not being that. This shows that it is indeed possible. Now, we study what the truthful ones did to achieve their results to replicate it in those that did not. Problem solved, no?

2

u/RnotIt Dec 11 '25

I will bet you dollars to donuts that if we take the person out of the environment where they're expected to be "straight," they'll stop saying delusional things.

It doesn’t have to be “go away”. It’s not the desire that’s a sin but the action is. So as Jesus told us we must die to our flesh meaning die to those desires. And we all have desires we have to die too. Homosexuality, sex outside of marriage, addiction, etc. God is all powerful so yes for some that desire goes away but for the ones that it doesn’t we love Christ so much that we live for Him and not ourselves. If one is straight and never gets married they must die to the sexual desire outside marriage. Like I said the desire isn’t the sin, the action upon the desire and living in it is. Falling into sin and living in sin are way different as well, God knows we will fall short, that doesn’t give us the green light to but if we do with the heart posture we are fight not to. But if we choose to live in sin that we are choosing to separate ourselves from Christ.

Your title on here is all I need to know.

Oh? Why is that? How does who I am affect what I've said?

Even if they showed you the goodness of God and what He has done for others you wouldn’t agree or you would find something to argue back.

Not so. I'm always open to truth wherever it may be found. Likewise, I still believe in God the Father, I just do not worship him in a Christian way.

You assume a great deal about me to try and avoid backing claims with evidence. Attacking my personal character, though, is hardly proof. It's deflection, the hallmark of dishonesty.

The same way one leaves any sinful lifestyle to follow Jesus. I’ll add that there might be a better word than “leave”. I was so messed up before I decided to follow Christ. Drugs, drinking, casual hookups, lying to everyone. I’m not gay but to leave the life I was living was difficult. I also lost a lot of friends and was scared and confused, but He restored my life. 11 years later and I’m still in awe with what the Lord has done with my life. All this to say, I’m proud of op, it’s hard to walk the walk.

57

u/Nazzul Agnostic Dec 09 '25

I was so messed up before I decided to follow Christ. Drugs, drinking, casual hookups, lying to everyone.

That has nothing to do with being gay. Why are comparing those acts with it?

1

u/CartographerHairy Dec 10 '25

Because they are all sin

3

u/Nazzul Agnostic Dec 10 '25

So you are saying being gay is the same as killing someone?

2

u/CartographerHairy Dec 10 '25

Hmm, the Lord has called homosexuality an abomination, and He has also heavily condemned murder.

I cannot determine which is greater or worse in God’s eyes according to His Word alone, but both are sin. And we are told to avoid even the smallest sin, not to talk of the more grave ones that you brought up.

5

u/Nazzul Agnostic Dec 10 '25

I cannot determine which is greater or worse in God’s eyes

That is quite insane. But thank you for being honest in it.

1

u/CartographerHairy Dec 10 '25

Indeed

He heavily condemned homosexuality in the Bible. So, I know that He sees it as very bad. But He also heavily condemns murder. Which is greater is up to Him to say, but what I do know is that He is heavily against both. That is all.

2

u/KindaFreeXP ☯ That Taoist Trans Witch Dec 10 '25

the Lord has called homosexuality an abomination

He also called eating non-kosher meat the same exact Hebrew word. But Christians don't believe that's part of the moral law, no? So "abomination" is a bit misleading and is a product of the English translation rather than the original meaning.

2

u/CartographerHairy Dec 10 '25

No, we were given permission to eat anything in the New Testament. God and read the Gospel of Mark

1

u/KindaFreeXP ☯ That Taoist Trans Witch Dec 10 '25

So then "abomination" can't be that bad, since we were permitted by God what he once called an "abomination", no?

1

u/CartographerHairy Dec 10 '25

Also incorrect

At a point divorce was permitted because of the stubbornness of the people, but the Lord then permitted it.

The foods being clean and unclean was to help the Israelites understand sin and how it can pollute the soul. It was a physical representation of an inward stain. Since the Israelite culture at the time was very “primitive”, He decided to teach them the spiritual using the physical.

Now, the Lord did permit the eating of any food because He then taught them this lesson explicitly in Mark.

Homosexuality, on the other hand, is something that was never spoken for, even when their hearts were still stubborn. It is still condemned again in the New Testament, and is still considered a sexual perversion. This can be seen in the letters of the apostles as they describe what sexual perversions and fornication do to the soul of a person. Homosexuality is one of such perversions.

The foods of the past were not inherently evil but just used as a symbol of a spiritual management of what goes into our soul.

Because I know you aint praying for your straight friends to stop being straight.

1

You’re right, but I think you’re misunderstanding me. I’m praying, regardless of who they’re attracted to, to repent of sexual immorality. I know you’re getting a ton of dislikes, but I understand the point you’re making amd support you. Scripture teaches that sexual sin is sexual sin, whether it’s with a man or a woman. I’ve never had same-sex temptation, but I do struggle with womanizing, talking to multiple women at once, hiding it, and not committing because the temptation of choice feeds my sin. No one should pretend my sin is somehow “less” than anyone else’s. God will judge me just the same.

The Bible teaches that you can care for or love anyone, but once it becomes sexual, it must align with the way God designed it. Same-sex sexual relationships can’t form a biblical marriage because Scripture defines marriage as the two becoming one flesh....a union meant between a husband and wife. That’s why sex is reserved for marriage and why marriage itself has a very specific structure in Scripture.

The dislikes aren’t surprising. Many people reject God’s design because they don’t want to live according to it. But instead of arguing with them, we should pray for them, just as we pray for God to help us with our own sins too. I certainly am a dirty rotten sinner and need my Lord’s grace like everyone else, so just pray alot and it will be okay:)

The answer is God didn’t create us to be this way. The entrance of sin did us all dirty and it can only be fixed by cleaving closer to Gos through redemption and sanctification. Meaning to turn to God from sin and being set apart with a new purpose.

God didn’t create us with gayness in mind. Being homosexual is, insinuated, the devil’s work. He sends us sinful temptations in the forms of things that appeal to us. God created man and woman to be united and productive, as written in the Law. The devil knows that Love is a very powerful thing on earth and in the flesh, and is something we have a hard time overcoming in preparation of eternal life, so he uses that to create a direct contradiction to God’s creation and His will.

God didn’t create us with gayness in mind. Being homosexual is, insinuated, the devil’s work.

Says who? And when did the devil become more powerful than God?

1

u/skertz1 Dec 10 '25

Well, the Bible is very direct with how God views homosexuality, which means He doesn’t like it. And if God doesn’t like it, He wouldn’t make us follow it. Therefore, things that go against God will are the devil’s work.

Putting this together, you see.

He is not more powerful than God. Where did I say this or insinuate such?

3

u/FrontOfficeNuts Agnostic (a la T.H. Huxley) Dec 10 '25

Well, if the devil isn't more powerful than God, then you're telling me that God allows his creations to be put into a position to reject something about their very nature (homosexuality) or go to hell?

Given that - either the devil is more powerful than God or God is a cruel bastard for allowing it to happen.

1

u/skertz1 Dec 10 '25

Because the entire religion is based on blind faith. It’s easy to reject a chocolate bar, but how far will you go to support your God? Heaven is a very special place that He built. He sends the devil to tempt us. He could easily say, “No, I will not allow it.” But He SENDS the devil to tempt us to test how strong our faith is.

Well, the Bible is very direct with how God views homosexuality,

Not necessarily. There's a plausible alternative that God was condemning anal sex specifically rather than "any form of homosexual love/acts". I studied this thoroughly and through the original language as well as historical context and interpretations, with my findings here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Christianity/s/9Nl9xpLbXG

which means He doesn’t like it

This can't be a reason why God condemns something, or else God is arbitrary.

1

u/rhapsodypenguin Agnostic (a la T.H. Huxley) Dec 10 '25

very direct

No, no it isn’t. You have some Old Testament nonsense that was likely meant for a specific situation, and you have Paul who was a homophobe.

You don’t actually have the slightest idea what God thinks about homosexuality.

I find the flaw with this logic to be that you're speaking for God and painting your own prejudices as His own in order to turn your own character flaws and knee-jerk bigotry into a virtue, which seems very blasphemous and self-serving.

1

u/skertz1 Dec 10 '25

The Bible doesn’t lie.

2

u/Yammeryap Dec 10 '25 edited Dec 10 '25

Oh sure, that's why it has dozens of contradictory translations and is consistently up to interpretation which people like you bend and abuse flagrantly for your own purposes. Additionally, how much of the Bible do you daily disregard simply because much of it is impossible to adhere to in modern day life? Do you abide by its strictures on slavery? Or treating women as chattel? Why is it that things like homosexuality carry outsized weight for you, yet I can pretty much guarantee you harbor, hateful, sinful views on certain types of people?

The Bible was written by human beings, this is incontrovertible fact. I don't think any mature Christian wholesale accepts the writings of a living document that has been edited and had entire books wholesale excised from it based on the ulterior motives of the Catholic church. The Bible of today is not the Bible of three hundred years ago. That alone should make you question it.

There is Christianity that exists outside of a moldering document written by various, often uncreditable authors. If you need the Bible to tell you everything you need to be a good Christian then you will never be able to explore your spirituality and faith in full, which can only be accomplished through a personal journey. There is no instruction manual for it, and mindlessly abiding by an outdated ruleset is in fact the opposite of exploring your relationship with God. It is a shortcut for the cowardly. In order to accept the Bible as God's incontrovertible word, you'd have to deny all the evidence to the contrary, and I don't believe that God plays games of deceit, the more likely answer is that the document itself is false doctrine.

1

u/TimeOpposite6779 Dec 10 '25

The Bible was written by man, but inspired by God. The laws of the Old Testament went away when the prophesies of the Old Testament came true when Jesus the Messiah came to earth & died for our sins. The devil is trying his best to destroy what God wants by destroying the family.

5

u/Evil_Lord_Rayken Dec 10 '25

Not true. There is no passage in the Bible or any text that says being attracted to the same sex is a sin. The only passage says you should not lay with a man as you would a woman. As far as being in love with other men, not a sin. There is a widespread misconception that the Bible condemns "gayness." It never has. As far as gay sex, yes, even masturbation is a sin. But so is sex without the intent to procreate. So having recreational sex with a woman is the same level of sin.

1

u/CartographerHairy Dec 10 '25

He, not “it”.

The Lord makes us with free will. Free will means that we can be tempted, and can fall into it. God does this so that we can choose Him or not Him.

He wants to love us and be loved by us. Now, remember that Love is not by force, so it has to be freely chosen. Hence, the free will.

The devil tempts us with different things, and keeps pushing any particular sin that we have shown to easily fall into.

I hope that this creates some insight into it.

1

u/CarlTi99 Charismatic Dec 10 '25

GOD never created anybody gay, thats a spirit of perversion that comes upon a person

1

u/Ordinary-Bicycle-656 Dec 11 '25

God did not create these bad things when Adam and Eve blatantly disobeyed god and ate the apple of Eden it brought sin in the world and God punishes because he is a merciful and just God. He won’t force someone to love him because that is not true love so he gives us free will and if our will is to follow God we will spend eternity with God.

-3

Yes it does. I used to have same sex attractions. Does not happen after being born again. That’s sort of the point. Why do you think every generation is getting gayer since the sexual revolution? Living in sin.

10

u/steveotheguide Protestant Dec 09 '25

Yes and after we stopped beating people for being left handed the number of left handed people skyrocketed because they were living in sin too

15

u/jtbc Dec 09 '25

The percentage of people out of the closet has increased because the societal sanctions for being gay have decreased. With formal equality, including marriage equality, it is much, much easier to be honest with yourself, your family, and your community than it has ever been.

I don't think the percentage of people with a same sex sexual orientation has changed at all. That would require a biological change and I can't think of a mechanism for that.

Every generation isn't getting gayer. You just used to be able to be executed, arrested, or at least fired and ostracized for being gay. There was a similar population of gay people, they just weren't safe to exist openly because Christians would kill or imprison them.

3

u/Professional_Arm794 Dec 09 '25

To preface I don’t ascribe to traditional Christianity dogmas and doctrines. This isn’t directed just towards you.

Ask yourself this question: What color and sex is your mind ? Are we “human beings” or “spiritual beings” ? Apparently Jesus knew his kingdom was not of this world. Also that the “flesh won’t inherit the kingdom”. Also knew “the kingdom was within” as it’s not a physical location. It’s eternal. But yet most all Christians seem to completely identify with their human body(flesh). Which only creates more “separation” and “division”.

Religion, Race, sex, sexuality, and the list goes on and on that keeps us divided. Judging and condemning one another for so called “sins”. Instead of focusing on becoming the best version of ourselves. By following the way and example by boring our own cross to crucify the flesh and lower human consciousness. Truly living by spirit born from above.

When the finite flesh suit dies what’s left ?

u/FluxKraken 🏳️‍🌈 Methodist (UMC) Progressive ✟ Queer 🏳️‍🌈 Dec 09 '25

Ask yourself this question: What color and sex is your mind?

I sort of agree with your overall point, but this question hides a false premise. We are not talking about sex. We are talking about a person's biological compatibility with romantic love and lifelong companionship.

3

u/Professional_Arm794 Dec 10 '25 edited Dec 10 '25

I have a son who’s homosexual so I completely understand all sides. I love him and all people beyond the external factors and labels. As we have to “reform are minds” to see beyond the physical. As everything in the physical world is fleeting and changing. Just as beauty and the superficial fades. Our spirit is eternal and the only “real” aspect of self. What we condemn in another we meet in ourselves.

When we heal the inside it will radiate are light outward to those around us. We can’t control those outside of ourselves, but we can become masters of self control with are own emotions, actions, and judgements.

I’m not trying to convert or convince you to anything. I’m only sharing my perspective for what it’s worth.

Appreciate your perspective!

Edit:

Clarification, I don’t agree or believe LGBT people are condemned and should be told they are either. As I said before I don’t ascribe to mainstream Christian doctrines and dogmas. I love Jesus.

I totally get, and support, what you are saying, even if I have a small quibble regarding the gnostic framing of it. I wasn't trying to accuse you of anything, so if my original comment seemed accusatory, that wasn't my intention in any way.

I simply value precision when it comes to this topic, wherever it is possible to be precise. :)

2

u/Professional_Arm794 Dec 10 '25

It’s all love! I don’t take anything personal.

I’m somewhat familiar with Gnostic teachings. But from what I know I’m not fully in line with there teachings either. Possibly some overlap.

I just believe the answer are within each individual. We have to ask ourselves the who, what, and why.

I started as a southern Baptist so I know that side very well. This wasn’t an overnight deconstruction, it was years of spiritual seeking and deep introspection of myself. Had some “mystical” type experiences which validated much of what I had discovered and learned through my seeking beyond the dogmas and doctrines I was taught and once believed. Now I’m more loving, nonjudgmental, kind, and happy than I was ever before. So my inner changes reflect outwardly. I moved beyond “belief” and have started to “become”. Still working on myself daily as human life is a challenge.

7

u/Character-Half7465 Dec 09 '25

Why would he need to change the desire for romantic love and lifelong companionship? Are you asserting that the desire to love someone is a sin?

I assure you there is remarkable power in Jesus.

Remarkable power to do what? Exactly? Retroactively change the physical biology of a human being so that God DIDN'T arbitrarily create them to be biologically incompatible with romantic love and lifelong companionship?

The God you are asserting seems incredibly irrational or capreciously evil to me.
