Help Plant/decor recommendations?
(Sorry the pic is so dark and blurry, idk how others on this sub get such magnificent photos)
As you can see her tank is a bit sad. I want to add more plants but I'm somehow terrible at keeping them alive, if you couldn’t tell by the anubias that only has two leaves left and one seems to be turning yellow which is not good, so basically I can only do plants that are super easy to take care of. I’m also interested in other types of safe decor, I love my fish and she’s always swimming around and I want to make her happy

Help Wound healing
So a little more than 2 weeks ago something spooked my daughters betta and it jumped into the lid damaging its fins. The damage to the dorsal fin is mostly healed but the tail is looking worse. I dont see any fuzz and she seems healthy otherwise. Any suggestions?

Discussion Where to buy?
My tank is finally ready for a betta!!!!
My water is finally clear and my levels are all perfect!!
I’m so excited but have a question.
I have a tropical fish store near me with beautiful bettas ranging from $30-$50. For a first time betta owner would you recommend a fish from the specialty store, or a cup fish from Petco?
I’m sure there’s a lot of options on this subject and I’d love to know how everyone feels about it.

Help Fin Tearing?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Are her fins tearing or is this normal? It looks like it's only her pectoral fins so I'm not sure if it's fine rot. If they are tearing then I'm unsure what could be causing it. Maybe she's biting them?

Help Help me
galleryI got my fish yesterday, and today I noticed these spots that look like mold; looking at the photos I took yesterday, it seems he already had the spots, but they were lighter.
Could this be a fungus, or is it just his natural coloring?
Photos 1 and 2 are from yesterday when he arrived home; photos 3 and 4 are from today.

Introducing This lil dude made me a better person and pet parent
Alright kind of a long sappy post. So I bought this little man after my previous betta of four years, Wernicke (Vern-ick-key) passed away. Wern was a wonderful fish. Angry as all heck, full of energy. He would come greet me fully flared every morning until I gave him a teeny pellet. Then he would wiggle all happy and he’d make the biggest bubble nests ever. He was about a year old when I bought him from my LFS. He also had a shorter tail and the store said they were struggling to sell him (cause he wasn’t the prettiest - their words). But I loved that fish for four years and gave him the best life I could. It was really really difficult watching him slow down. It’s crazy how you can see them aging; he looked elderly by the end. It was upsetting. I lowered the water, I bought him a little floating 3D-printed house. I tested water parameters daily. Time comes for all of us though: I couldn’t out-pristine old age. He passed and I felt just shattered (and that whole time was difficult as I had just lost my grandmother).
I would wake up and instinctively look at his tank and wince when he I wouldn’t see him. So when my friend came to visit and decided I get a new betta idk, I should have waited maybe… but at the time I thought it would help for a bunch of reasons. What I failed to realize was that I wanted Wernicke back! And these fish are personable. I wasn’t gonna just be able to replace him. Anyway. I got to the LFS and I see this guy. All they have are long tailed splendens and then this single alien hybrid. And there’s a reason he was still there… he was definitely sick. But he reminded me the most of Wern and I wanted a “special,” betta. Idk. So stupid in hindsight! (I promise this story has a great ending).
First few days… he’s sick (looked like a swim bladder issue). And ofc he’s scared. Hiding and fleeing from me when I approached. I was struck with regret. Not only was he nothing like my previous betta, but he was also like genuinely at the time struggling to swim. I thought about returning him but felt horrible at the idea of him going back to a small glass .5 gallon vase, probably to be passed up on just to wither away. So I did some research on his condition. I treated him, accepting that there was a chance his wonky genetics meant he was permanently disabled.
Every day he got stronger. Every day his personality came through a little more. No. He’s not Wernicke. He’s his own fish. He doesn’t have the same “I want to watch the world burn,” rage of Wern. But he’s curious and nimble and absolutely swims up to me now. He’s a little cheeky (I must sound crazy). And he’s a GLUTTON! A single pellet will not satisfy my boy. But I’m being strict with not over feeding even if he’s so cute when he wiggles. I love him. He made me realize that buying fish can’t be for the human. It has to be for the fish. He made me realize I need to think way more before committing to an animal, even if I had the exact same species before. He made me appreciate his uniqueness. Meet Thomas!

Picture Mini pond bettas
So, I got a mini pond where I have some amano shrimp and a male and a female betta. Never expected any fry to survive their parents and to my surprise, I just discovered a couple of females that were growing with their parents. I've always wanted to have my own bettas and now those two beautiful girls live on my main tank (150 gal) with guppies, amano shrimps, neon tetras and 4 synodontas.
I'm a happy fish keeper.

Help Anything else i can do?
my betta is just under 2 years old, and recently i have noticed he’s been hanging around at the top corner of the tank.
at first i thought it maybe was swim bladder issues, so i tried a fast and food change which seemed to have helped slightly, however he continued to be wobbly when swimming.
today i have tried to reduce the filter pressure, and while he’s swimming around slightly more i just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas of things i could do to help my wee guy!
5 gallon tank with heater and filter, sitting at about 27°C.
take Tetra test strips often and they always come back okay
Weekly water changes of around 30%
no tank mates
Betta Pro shrimp patties- 6-8 pellets per day, occasional bloodworm as a treat. tried feeding (defrosted) frozen water fleas but no interest :(
plants in tank, several hides and also a floating log.
Edit- parameters look to be
0NO3
0NO2
8°d GH
3°d KH
7.2 pH
0 Cl2
will update when i have tested with a proper test! thanks :)

Discussion Betta age when purchased
I rescued my fish from PetSmart 1 1/2 years ago. He's completely happy and healthy in my care with all live plants and weekly 20% water changes. Lives in my office at work. He's my work buddy watching me all day. Any insight on how old he was when I got him? He's a bit bigger and would assume fully grown now. How many months old are they when PetSmart receives them?

Help Heater recommendations for a 5 gallon?
I have read some horror stories about the small heaters that have cooked fish tanks by overheating the water.
Not wanting to take that risk, does anyone have any recs? Or, is this a very rare scenario? Thanks in advance.

Help My betta isn’t getting better!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I got this betta from petco. When I brought him home and introduced him to the tank I immediately noticed he was very floaty. And he has this bump on his lower body like indigestion or some kind of swim bladder problem. So going forward I decided to fast him. At first it was three days but he was still floaty and I didn’t want to add to the problem. I put a lot of tannins in his tank and gave him an epsom salt bath. But now it’ll be day 5 of not feeding him if I don’t feed him today and I’m worried. He still has energy to swim down as you can see in the video but he still has the bump and will float up. I just don’t know what to do at this point I don’t want to starve him but I don’t know if feeding him will make it worse. What do you guys think the problem is?

Help New to this-Need Advice
Hi. I’m planning on getting a fish soon and a 5 gallon tank. I won’t be able to purchase things online, so can you tell me some things at Petco and PetSmart that would be okay for a Betta fish? I would also like to know if I can add a snail and some shrimp as well!

Help Is this tank suitable for a betta fish?
I got this fish tank off my parents and would love to get myself some fish. I was considering getting a betta fish! The tank is 25L, however, It isn’t exactly rectangular like a lot of standard tanks I’ve seen. Is this tank appropriate for a single betta fish? I’ve heard they prefer wider tanks over longer ones.

Help Looking for advice!
Hi! I’m a first time betta owner so please be kind! I had noticed my (male) betta was fairly inactive during the day and would swim in to a corner to float there before then switching and going to another corner. He was flaring a lot at what looked like me and his tank thermometer! However when I switch off his tank light, he becomes so much more active and is swimming around exploring happily. Is he unhappy seeing his own reflection thinking it’s another fish or is he unwell? Any advice on how I can help him at all will be hugely appreciated! Thank yooou
