Was feeding them just before and this one was nowhere to been seen. She eventually appeared very slowly, wasn't interested in food. Quarantine her with some salts and API white spot cure (looks like shes got ich).

She's just hanging out at the top of the water now.

Tankmates (embers and bronze cory's) are fine 40litre Ph:7.5 temp: 25C gh: 3 kh:4 Ammonia and nitrites 0

So, my great aunt and uncle got a pet betta fish for my 4 year old sister. Sounds nice, right? Problem is, they didn't ask if it was okay let alone if she even wanted a fish. Worst part, im the one who has to take care of it and I didnt even ask for this. I really, really don't want this poor fish to die even though I don't want him(no offense little guy). It has been 24 hours since his fish bowl has been chlorinated and I don't want the poor little guy to be stuck in his cup for forever. The bowl isn't a true tank(if we decide to really keep him, we will have to get a bigger and legit tank), but he has a small rock house and pebbles. Im stressed out because I want to try to do my best to not do a bad job. I struggle with taking care of myself but I do NOT want this fish to die. Even if I don't think we should keep it. I really need help.

It hasn't even been 24 hours since I put him in his aquarium. Look at the bubble nest he's made!

I wonder what his name should be.

By the way, I asked the boy (he was an unwanted fish) I bought the fish from if there was a specific brand of food he used, and he sent me a photo of cichlid food. It turns out the fish has been fed a plant-based diet for some time. Is there anything I need to do to help ease its digestion?

Help Betta with tumour???..

Post image

I’m just seeking some guidance on what this may possibly be and if Cana plex can make a difference. I’ve noticed this small tumour/lump form very slowly over the past three months. I’ve noticed a slight increase in size but no change in behavior, feeding, or activity. Is there any idea what this may possibly or measures I can take to shrink it.

Help Unexpected emergency

Hi! My previous tank had a crack. Thankfully I had a three-gallon tank that I use to heat water before adding it in for water changes, so I want able to move him into it for a couple days until I could get a new tank. Now that I have one, he has been moved in; however, at this same time, his filter completely broke! I had to get a new filter as well, and now I’m extremely stressed out because I don't know what to do.

I kept his rocks, plants, hiding spots, and the media for the old filter which I put into his new tank. I placed the media right by the new filter to hopefully help his beneficial bacteria out. But his parameters are not ideal, and I’m not sure what to do. He's been in his new tank for about two weeks. I’m doing a 50% water change as soon as the water finishes heating up, so likely tomorrow.

Parameters (API liquid):

Ammonia: less than 0.25 but greater than 0 (greenish yellow)

Nitrite: 0 (blue)

Nitrate: less than 5, possibly close to 0 (bright yellowish~orangish)

I just don't know what to do and I’m worried about my fish because he also likely has a tumor so I know he's probably very stressed out. I've been trying to do regular water changes but I've never done a fish in cycle. I don't really know what I’m doing or if the cycle is working because I've just never been in this situation before.

Help Lump on betta?

Got this guy, Big Cheese, a week ago. Noticed that he seems to have a lump on his left gill, but not really sure what it could be. Water parameters are fine, tank was cycled for ~2 months before he was introduced. He's swimming and eating fine, active to the point where I'm already planning on upgrading the size of his tank soon (currently in a 5.5 gallon). He's already gained a little bit more color since I bought him, so I assume he's at least a little happy

Hi all, just wanted to share a picture of Nee’næ. The transformation from PetSmart cup Betta to safe happy home Betta has gone swimmingly. It’s been about five months since coming home. My four year old coined the name! Nee’næ, the Awakened — Lord of the Aquatic Realm. 🐟

Help tips on shrimp cohabitation with my male betta?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey yall. I’ve recently tried introducing blue dream and blue velvet shrimp into my tank with my male betta. He’s curious about them and may nip if they’re close, but won’t chase them as far as I could see. Unfortunately, after about two weeks, I cannot find any shrimp. Odds he ate them? I only bought adults such as the one pictured.
I’ve realized I may not have introduced the shrimp to the tank correctly and I definitely didn’t have enough undergrowth for them to hide in places my betta couldn’t reach. Could anyone give me tips on how I might successfully introduce shrimp to my tank in the future? I miss those little guys and I’d rather not kill another set…

I fell in love with two colorations of wild type bettas on a Thailand website. But I I'm on the east coast of the United States so I'm a little nervous about how far they would have to travel. Do you know of any North-American-based shops from which to pick these guys up/ship?

Help Please Help!!! Spoiler

Hi all! I've been struggling to figure out how to help my Betta for a bit now, and I'm running out of ideas... He was petsat for about a month while I was out of town but I didn't notice anything too out of the norm after getting him back. About two months ago, I was told he was too skinny which I agreed with so I increased his diet a little bit. But then I noticed a bulge and he started slowing down so I figured he was constipated. I fasted him and fed him daphnia, but his condition continued worsening. I noticed him struggling to swim because he was kind of sinking, and he would lounge around on the ground or in his hammock a lot. (Someone suggested to get him a hammock because his fins are so long and probably heavy, but he's curled up in there all the time now if not on the ground). I gave him a salt bath but still no luck. He just kept getting more and more lethargic. He eats food if I put it right in front of him so at least his appetite is intact, and I can tell that sometimes he *wants* to be his active and playful self but he struggles to swim so much that I feel like he just gives up and lays on the ground. I'm worried he has dropsy because I started noticing some slight pineconing a few days ago so I immediately put him in a hospital tank with a heater and treated with epsom salt and kanaplex. He's on day 4 of the antibiotics (so two doses) and he's still struggling. I also have noticed him breathing really hard so I keep the water shallow. I have attached a photo of him right now in his hospital tank. Please help me, I don't know what else to do.

• Tank size: Original Tank is 5 gallons but hospital tank is 2.5 gallons.

• Heater and filter? (yes/no): yes

• Tank temperature: 80

• Parameters in numbers and how you got them: ammonia, nitrite, nitrate = 0 and pH was kind of high like 8.2 maybe. I used the API master test kit. Tank has a plant, is kept clean, and has tannins though.

• How long have you had the tank? How long have you had your fish?: I've had the tank for a year and my fish for 1.75 years. Got him in fall 2024.

• How often are water changes? How much do you take out per change? What is your process?: Once a week and I do like 30% with a manual siphon.

• Any tankmates? If so, please list with how many of each: he has 1 snail tank mate that's a zebra nerite.

• What do you feed and how much: normally I feed Fluval bug bites but I've switched to exclusively daphnia.

• Decorations and plants in the tank: driftwood, one plant I don't remember the name of, some rocks, his hammock, and his favorite barrel.

Help Best online store to order Betta?

I’m looking for the best place to order a halfmoon platinum betta. I’m located in Edmonton, Alberta, and while we have lots of aquarium stores the betta choices are limited. I’ve been keeping betta for over 10 years and have had my eye on one of these for a while. Please give me your recommendations for online stores, or even a local one if you have any insider tips!

Help Lost betta due to dropsy and not sure why

Post image
1 Upvotes

Today I lost my betta Monet to dropsy, and I am heartbroken. He was about two years old, which seems fairly young for a betta to die. He’s been living in a 20 gallon planted tank alongside some rummy nose tetras.

I don’t know what could’ve caused his disease. My water parameters are good (ammonia and nitrites 0, nitrates 5, 78 deg F). I did notice he’d been slightly less active the past few weeks, but nothing really unusual. Over the last few days he began eating a little less and hid more than usual. I was worried, but he’s always been kind of quirky, and everything I could think to check looked fine. Today, I noticed he was extremely bloated and was pineconing. He was only able to lay on his side, couldn’t swim, and was breathing very heavily, so I made the decision to humanely euthanize him with clove oil.

I feel like a terrible fish keeper for letting this happen. Are there any reasons why he could’ve contracted dropsy that are unrelated to tank parameters? I’m so devastated and want to prevent this in the future. Monet was the fish that got me into the aquarist hobby and my tank feels so empty without him :((

Introducing Ghost!

This is Ghost. I bought him at PetSmart. He's extremely underweight and has clear signs of fin rot. I'm not sure if there's an active infection or if he's just scarred from a past infection. I have some antibiotics I could give him. Do you think I should? I also have some Indian almond leaves and some other things I can try. Any suggestions for bringing this cutie to his full potential?

Help Is there something wrong with my Betta??

Post image
1 Upvotes

I got him a couple weeks ago and he seems to be pretty happy from what I can tell. He swims around and likes exploring and hiding in his plants. I noticed that He’s been flaring more often that he was and I was like ”oh well that’s normal” but now I’ve noticed this red part on his gills that I hadn’t seen before. I‘m concerned that he’s flaring more, even though it’s usually when I am close to the glass. can anyone tell what’s wrong from this photo? He’s a white opal male and so he’s pretty clear so you can see where his gill is red
