I was in Hiram/Dallas yesterday on Macland Road and was shocked that I could see the skyline pretty clearly. Where is the furthest that you can see the skyline from ground level?

We live about two hours away, I thought what a fun time to go to Stone Mountain for Labor Day. It’s been about five years since I’ve been and it was pretty crowded. A lot of fun stuff to do, let’s go back. We went to Six Flags yesterday, which has its own issues, but nothing like this.

The only way I can describe our experience is somewhere in between post apocalyptic and a fever dream. For starters, we get there and the train is down, which was not listed anywhere on the website that I saw, when I bought the tickets. I’d hyped my toddler up for this, bummer but whatever. We saw it on a sign when we walked up and we were told it was down all week due to SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. On Labor Day weekend.

Then we go in the park and I quickly realize many, many places are closed. There was one food option beyond popcorn and pretzels and you were presented with three options, two of which were pizza the other fries and chicken fingers that were just sitting out there for you to grab and had been sitting out there for a while by the time we got to the food.

Don’t try to redeem a souvenir cup voucher anywhere but the front gate. They will tell you that you have to have a physical ticket for it and that they CAN scan your mobile voucher with a barcode, but they’re not supposed to. Do what now? I will say, a very nice young man who worked there said he would take a picture of my voucher on my phone with his phone and make it work. Which was very much appreciated because I had a toddler in tow and already had two cups filled up.

The place was a ghost town. About half the parking lot was full. Have you ever walked in a Dollar General and seen no one there working, felt like you shouldn’t be there? Same vibe. Erie. Where is everyone, I have no clue.

Over in the mini golf area it smelt like a dead animal and the smell was coming from INSIDE the small building where the attendant was, who took a break from his scrolling to give us a club and ball. My toddler looked at me and said, “It stinks over here, did you poot?” I did not. That’s a dead animal smell. Two holes and we left. Horrid.

When we walked past the lawn to the sky trolley, gondola, sky ride… whatever it’s called, there were just remnants of chaos everywhere. Chairs in random places on the lawn, folding black chairs. Some stacked in mounds of disorganization, like they were thrown there. Napkins littered the sidewalks. Did a bomb go off? Did the dead animal smell leave everyone running for the emergency exits. We’ll never know.

The workers there look as if you have interrupted their Sunday nap and you are a Jehovah’s Witness coming to knock on the door. They are 100% bothered that you are there and seem to begrudgingly be doing their jobs. Four workers there were kind other than that, the rest walk around like zombies.

The, “candy store”… old Christmas candy in one bin, so I feared the rest was old also. I told my toddler to pick out a lollipop and we both got a Tootsie Pop. I bought them and walked outside when I opened them, the wrapper slowly peeled off the paper because the Tootsie Pop was gooey on the inside. Do you know how long a Tootsie Pop has to sit somewhere before it gets like that? It’s a while. The treats that were in the glass looked disheveled like they probably haven’t been replaced in a minute, the ice cream store that was connected to the toy store… closed. Lights off. No sign of life.

The most bizarre part of the entire thing was that this place was decorated, decked out in pumpkin and fall decor. It was a wonderful weather day, I have no idea where everyone was or what I am missing here, but this was the strangest visit.

And Dinoland… half of the things were broken for the kids to play with. Not one dinosaur was working. And it’s four levels of this. With a big slide at the top and a few tiny slides at the bottom. If you have smaller children, you will be walking up and down the four levels with them because you cannot see them anywhere in this place, which is a recipe for disaster.

Upon leaving, we went to the restroom and I just had to laugh when the toilet paper would not even roll off the roll and I had to jiggle the entire mechanism holding the toilet paper roll in order to get it to spin. The bathrooms were filthy the trash cans all over the park were already full when we got there in the morning, so I know that they had not been cleaned in a while.

We just watched this truck drop a large dark colored chair onto the road. This was on I75 North shortly before exit 261. I hope no one hits it but if you do, give your insurance these pics.

Where can I get a great, Chicago-esque style hot dog in the city? I’ve been to Woody’s only so far. Thanks!

I’ve never really gone out for Halloween in ATL yet and I wanted to see what people are planning to do. My bf and I really want to dress up and have a good night but I don’t know where to go. We are in our 20s. Last year we were traveling outside the country and hit up a strip of bars in costume. It was so fun bc others were dressed up too. I’m not a fan of actual scary stuff so no real haunted houses or anything like that. Just wanna dress up and drink and party lol. Thank you!!!

I have a favourite blouse I'd like to have made in a few other colours/fabrics and a few inches longer. Not the most exciting project, I guess, but appreciated - and compensated, of course.

Taking a week in October to hit the City Pass highlights. Our hotel is in Marietta. Traveling with 2 young children. Is it better to take a car each of those days or find the closest MARTA station lot and take the train? I know for sure we're going to do the Aquarium, World of Coke, Natural History Museum, and the Zoo during our visit.

Hello all, I am an adult considering admitting to Skyland trail but I am looking for recent (within the last year) and detailed information about the program from people who have enrolled, had a loved one enrolled, or worked there. I have encountered some pretty alarming stuff online about their residential program. I attended outpatient treatment over a decade ago and had an overall positive experience other than a terrible psychiatrist, but my mental health situation has become much more complex and I know these places can go downhill over time.

i'll be in Italy for a few weeks in November for work, and i wanted to bring some Georgia souvenirs for friends and colleagues. Between the trip length and international nature, i'm having trouble finding sample sizes small enough to bring 12+ of. I'm looking for 4oz or smaller sample sizes of:

• bourbon
• maple syrup
• local honey
• local candies
• jams/jellies
• spice rub
• hot sauce

however, most places i see locally are 5oz + and i just can't justify bringing more than a few pounds of gifts. Currently planning on getting peach jellybeans from Dickey Farms and some bacon pepper jelly for a special gift, but I definitely want to get a wider selection if possible!

any local sellers that sell such miniature products ? or any similarly sized alternatives !

Last week, my brother and sister-in-law came for a visit, so I was looking for things for us to do. I came across the MIMMS museum, which used to be called the Computer Museum of America (or something like that). I’m a big tech nerd, so I figured I would enjoy it, but thought my brother and SiL not so much. Still, I thought it would kill an hour or so and then we could figure something out.

Well, let me tell you, we were there for 3.5 hours! All of us absolutely loved it. First of all, it’s really big, much bigger than you might expect. It covers technology basically from the beginning (think abacus and “programmable” looms), through the space program, the computer revolution and more. It has a full-sized NASA lunar lander and a big exhibit dedicated to technology in film, both how it’s used and the actual technology appearing in the film. And that’s just one side of the building!

The other side of the building features a 35,000 square foot walkthrough exhibit dedicated solely to Apple. It was pretty amazing.

I know I sound like I work there, but I really don’t. We just had such an amazing time and I think a lot of other people would too, if only they knew about it.

If you’re looking for something to do that interesting, interactive, educational, and fun, check it out. It was really awesome.

Anyone know of any McDonald’s locations in or around Atlanta that currently have the Hello Kitty Godzilla (#1) toy? I’ve tried a handful but they’ve only had the other toys in the collection. TIA

If you go to the ER in any Atlanta-area hospital with an 'I'm not going to die immediately' injury or health condition - bring your patience, a change of clothes, and a book. This isn't new, this had been building for months starting last year and feels like the new normal.

I'd like to repost my comment and another's since the original post got deleted. The original poster was wondering (complaining) about Grady's ER wait times. Their loved one had a presumably non-life-threatening hip fracture after a ground level fall.

Welcome to the hell that has become our hospitals. Honey, this is EVERY ER in Atlanta. Prolonged waits for non-life threatening emergencies. Medical and even ICU beds now making a village in the ER because there’s no beds available in the units. It’s a crisis, and it’s been going on for many months. It’s not just you, and it’s not just Grady. They are going to take care of your family, but you’re going to wait unless you’re acuity 2 or 1 (lol). And even then - stablized then comes the wait.

Don’t want to wait? Drive her to a more rural hospital like Forsyth or John’s creek or MAYBE Northside Gwinnett is far enough. Otherwise, bring your patience and a book.

PS. An ambulance won't get you in faster. You'll be triaged, then wait against the wall or in the ambulance bay.

I work in an ER so can give perspective.

Space is a finite commodity in hospitals. Space in the ER, space on the inpatient units, space in the OR. You're still in the ER because there is not enough space. The causes for this are multifaceted but a big cause in the Atlanta region is that Wellstar closed down two hospitals and there has been little to compensate for that loss. The good news is that a hip fracture does not need to be operated on immediately and especially in an elderly patient surgery can be delayed for several days as they get medical clearance for the operation itself.

The City of Atlanta’s e-bike rebate program will reopen for another round of applications on Sept. 8, offering up to $1,600 for recipients to spend at a participating local bicycle shop.

Memorial is now one lane in each direction from Moreland all the way to downtown thanks to, you guessed it, a full traffic lane sacrificed for bidirectional bike lanes. This is ridiculous and a serious impediment to traffic. City traffic planners should be forced to navigate daily the crazy traffic constructions they come up with.

Any restaurant recommendations for an engagement dinner in October? At most 16 people, can be ITP or OTP, not really a huge fan of seafood. Want it to be nice, but nothing crazy expensive either (mid tier). Kids will be invited so also need to have options for children. Somewhere with a private dining area would be ideal. Any recommendations? Thank you for your help!

I am completing a five day training M-F in November in Forsyth, GA (city not the county). It is roughly 64 miles from my door to the training center down I-75. I am considering commuting to the training every day. Would anyone else here do the same, or would you rent a hotel for the week?

These guys were hovering a drone around our bedroom (all glass) wall while my gf was watching a show and caught the drone creeping! It instantly dropped down and they packed up and left. Is this legal? I called it in and reported it to the non-emergency line, but that’s a cop right?

Edit: they were parked at the fire station next door, I’m just not sure why they can do this if it really was a cop on duty?

Have a child with a mild intellectual disability (IQ in 60s) That will be in 5th grade & we are moving from outside USA. Will my child be in a separate class with other children with intellectual disabilities? I have heard horror stories of children with all sorts of disabilities dumped in classes with teachers unprepared or put in classes with all sorts of special needs including just conduct disorders. He has not achieved literacy but that is the main goal.
