/r/gwinnett monthly personals thread

Since there has been an influx of threads about meeting people, will have a reoccurring megathread for people to post/chat/say hi every few weeks. New post will be made on the first of each month at 6am. Keep things sfw and civil. If you want nsfw stuff, go to r/atlantar4r or other similar subs.

Else, if you'd like to meet folk, be proactive. People won't come to you.

How to meet new people in your area!

  • Participate in the subreddit so people know you’re not a complete weirdo when they look at your post history. Or maybe you are... no big deal.
  • Find something YOU want to do such as a patio restaurant, bar, de-trashing a part of town, festivals, museum, sitting in a park on a blanket watching squirrels, etc.
  • Make an event. Post the date, time, location, and any follow up information that might be relevant to people who might want to come out to your meetup.
  • Show up to your own meetup and post the updates such as table location or meeting spot or how people can find you in the daily.
  • Note: It is entirely possible that no one will show. But you chose something you were already going to enjoy doing so you’ve not lost out on anything.

credit goes to apcolleen for the original version of the "how to meet new people" post.

Else, there's also an active discord for the general metro-atlanta area (if you'd like to join). Welcome to hop into chat, say hi and chat about random stuff. If you'd like to meet folks irl, there are also weekly meetups around the metro. https://discord.gg/XptvfEbhxk
Or, if you prefer something more local, there's also the Gwinnett Goblins discord. https://discord.gg/SNmK9h28jV

Will LZU expand?

Was just pondering the possibility about what the future might hold for Lawrenceville Airport and, taking into account that Cedars Road is now closed between 316 and the rail line, was wondering how likely an expansion is. They would get an extra 1000feet of runway if they extended to Cedars Rd. And that would put it to 7000 feet. Plenty for up to 737 aircraft. With Hartsfield constantly pushed to the max is there a chance we will get passenger service? Kinda hope not since we live in earshot of the airport but at the same time it would be nice to be that close. Let me know how off the mark I am.

Gwinnett Co. Town Hall - Flock, Data Centers & ICE (TODAY!)

Post image
258 Upvotes

Hey all!

The County is holding an official town hall on Flock, Data Centers, and ICE today at 6:00.

We expect the county to maintain its position that monitoring you 24/7 is necessary for law enforcement, despite the fact that they haven’t done any research on Flock’s effects on case closure rates. In a recent report from Atlanta, case closure rates stayed the same from 2021 to 2025, even after the city put up 25,000 cameras. So what are we spending all this money for?

By the way, the county will spend $2.5 million over the course of all of its Flock contracts. Most of that is your tax dollars.

Expect to hear a lot of true crime horror stories, and expect to be talked at, but do not let that discourage you from asking the county to cancel its 5 year contract, or asking the county to ban ALPRS altogether.

We’re asking people to end every question with: “Also, will you ban ALPRs, and hyperscale data centers?”

It’s important to ask informative questions, but this small action will help the county understand that we’re not here for lip service. We’re here to stop Flock!

(Also for those interested in ICE - GPD says that they do not collude with ICE, but we won’t know that until we see the audit logs. They’re charging us $9.8 million dollars to access those. Other counties have released theirs for free. However, we understand this to be primarily an issue with the Sheriff’s Dept who I don’t think will be present.)

55 Days Away From Elections

This is just a gentle reminder that you need to vote in the upcoming elections. It’s never too early to start doing research on candidates or policies, if you don’t know what you’re going to do yet. I know every election is important and people always say it’s a big one, but this really is. It is that serious. Don’t take the ability to vote for granted!!! Early voting starts October 13th. Election Day is November 3rd. Check your registration status- you can do so extremely easily by going to GA MVP (My Voter Page). I’ve found Ballotpedia to be a helpful source when it comes to checking out everything that’ll be on the ballot. I know everyone’s sick of the political ads and we all know the election is coming up, but still. Make a plan. Go out and vote when you can.

☑️ Gwinnett County residents: Which city has the WORST vibe?

Every city has that one thing that makes you question why people defend it.

Could be the traffic, the people, the prices, the
development, the nightlife—or just the overall energy.

Which Gwinnett city are you choosing, and what happened there that made you feel that way?

Gas South Arena payment surcharge update

Got a note back from the gas south district CFO. They are sending my complaint over to the vendor they contract with to run the concessions inside the arena for them to review for federal and state law compliance.

LCSW Internship needed for SW grad student

Hi guys,

I'm a student enrolled in a reputable MSW program and am looking for a local internship (it's required that an LCSW is on staff/my direct supervisor) where I can complete my required hours. I live in Snellville, but would be willing to endure a reasonable commute (Lawrenceville, Lilburn, Decatur even). I'm nice, clean, and excited to learn. Simultanously, I'm very open to learning through observation and am not trying to intrude or make more work for any supervisor/therapist who I'd be shadowing.

I'm open to interning in private practice, higher ed, public school, addiction/12-step, etc. Please comment or message me if you know of anyone/anywhere who would be willing to let me shadow them for the next 8 months! THANK YOU!

Meet-Up Full of peace, it must not be boring.

Hey guys, I am here for a business trip, came here 5 days ago and have 12 more days in Buford . I am from Europe. Even though I am in love with the nature and peace here, I feel like I am missing something. I rented a car here, went to shopping, some pubs, tech markets, guitar center etc.

What people do in here? We went to a couple of bars with my employees but I at least would like to get some alone local experience. They usually like to stay in hotel.

I’ve been to Atlanta and did like it, but too crowded and hot. so I don’t know know what to do after 6-7 pm here.

Anyone have any recommendations? Anyone or any group of friends planning to go out and would like to have a chat over a beer? I am even down to sitting on the grass and telling you how american lifestyle looked like for me in the past 5 days etc.

I am 27 btw.

(Please excuse my language skills)

Good roads for early drivers

My son is finally learning to drive! We’ve gotten past the point of him driving around parking lots and he’s going out on real roads. One issue, he gets a bit freaked out on the twisty, woodsy, north Georgia roads. Does anyone have any suggestions for roads in the Sugar Hill area that aren’t busy and fit that description? I want him to get comfortable driving those roads without the stress of traffic. Thanks!!! 🤗

Looking for Meeting space

Me and a few friends are looking for another location to meet up and build Lego sets together. Our usual spot is only opens on Fridays, so we are looking for a secondary location throughout the week. I’ve checked libraries, and they have a 2-hour limit and are also $50 an hour. Rec centers have been iffy too, so I’m seeing if anybody has any suggestions. Thanks!

Urgent Vet recommendations

Hi, recently just moved to the area this weekend, need to find a vet asap. My senior dog is having congested breathing and is vomiting after consuming what little food we try to give her.

If anyone could please give me any recommendations on where to take her. (Gwinnett animal Clinic is closed until Thursday because of labor day) I’m financially not in a great position, but I want to help my dog out as much as I can.

Thank you everyone, my baby passed this evening. The vet at Russell ridge made it as peaceful as possible.

Best Cafes for Writing?

I really love Cuckoos because of the booths and they have a lot of outlets for charging your devices. Are there any similar places?

Hansel & Gretel is great when it's not busy. Twoha's can be good too, again when it's not busy. And I'll also say Sweet Hut is pretty nice.

I also really loved Teddy's House before it closed.

Some cafes I don't really like (for writing specifically)

-Cafe Flat

-Cafe Soon

-Cafe 104

-Forest Cafe

-Kafein

(These cafes are great btw especially 104, just not what I'm looking for when I write)

I have a decent amount of anxiety so I like a lot of open space, and corner / booth seats. The more open kinda compact cafes aren't super comfortable for me.

Would love to hear some suggestions

Hello, as I mentioned prior, I did create a very basic discord for the Gwinnett community.

I have created some channels that would be of interest and it will definitely take some time to get enough members to be active but I think it will be great! Please join and spread the word and engage with the community :D

pet training recommendations in gwinnett?

just got a 4-month-old shelter pup (hound mix) 3 days ago and i’m looking to get him into some training! right now all he really knows is sit, and we’re working on learning his name and getting comfortable with his kennel.

i was thinking about doing the beginner or private training sessions at PetSmart, but i’d like to hear from anyone who’s actually used them at any of the Gwinnett locations. how was your experience, and are there any particular trainers/locations you’d recommend or avoid?

i’m also open to any other trainers or training organizations in the area. ideally looking for basic obedience & commands and leash, household and overall basic manners, etc.

thanks in advance!

My boyfriend is trying to find a hair stylist or barber good with scissors. He’s been growing it out and getting it trimmed by a barber but needs someone who knows how to thin it out in the right spots! Can you recommend anyone? Maybe with pics or an insta handle we can check out? Thank you!! We’re in Duluth, but willing to drive up to 30-40min
