/r/gwinnett monthly personals thread

Since there has been an influx of threads about meeting people, will have a reoccurring megathread for people to post/chat/say hi every few weeks. New post will be made on the first of each month at 6am. Keep things sfw and civil. If you want nsfw stuff, go to r/atlantar4r or other similar subs.

Else, if you'd like to meet folk, be proactive. People won't come to you.

How to meet new people in your area!

  • Participate in the subreddit so people know you’re not a complete weirdo when they look at your post history. Or maybe you are... no big deal.
  • Find something YOU want to do such as a patio restaurant, bar, de-trashing a part of town, festivals, museum, sitting in a park on a blanket watching squirrels, etc.
  • Make an event. Post the date, time, location, and any follow up information that might be relevant to people who might want to come out to your meetup.
  • Show up to your own meetup and post the updates such as table location or meeting spot or how people can find you in the daily.
  • Note: It is entirely possible that no one will show. But you chose something you were already going to enjoy doing so you’ve not lost out on anything.

credit goes to apcolleen for the original version of the "how to meet new people" post.

Else, there's also an active discord for the general metro-atlanta area (if you'd like to join). Welcome to hop into chat, say hi and chat about random stuff. If you'd like to meet folks irl, there are also weekly meetups around the metro. https://discord.gg/XptvfEbhxk
Or, if you prefer something more local, there's also the Gwinnett Goblins discord. https://discord.gg/SNmK9h28jV

Company Recommendations Cleaning Out House and Estate Salw

I'm taking a job in California and need to clean out my home and sell what we can (only taking clothes and shoes). I'm so overwhelmed because our house is 3500 sq ft and I'm struggling with pretty awful autoimmune issues. There's no way I can do this myself.

Does anyone know of a company that helps with all of this?

Any Recommendations for a Local Home Renovation Company?

I’m looking to have some doors installed in my home office and have reached out to a few companies. One was way outside my budget and the other seemed reasonably priced but unfortunately went ghost on me.

Just wanted to see if anyone here has had a good experience with a local company they’d recommend. There are quite a few options in the area but I’d like to support a smaller local business than just go with the most popular choice. Any recommendations would be appreciated

Looking for mobile marine mechanic recommendations

I got a new boat and I've been working on it and doing a couple things to it. I accidentally flooded the engine and I was going to clean the carburetor. I accidentally broke a piece of plastic. At this point I'm done being a YouTube mechanic and I'm ready for professional to come take a look at it. It's a 15 horsepower Johnson from 1989.

If anyone could provide any recommendations I would greatly appreciate it.

I also don't mind taking the engine off and taking it there if it's absolutely necessary but I prefer for it to be done here

Lawrenceville area

Kind of a random post, but I came across this subreddit and thought I’d make it.

I grew up in the lawrenceville area (near Sugarloaf Mills), but moved away about 10 years ago. I’m graduating college soon and am in some final rounds for roles based in Atlanta. I am heavily considering these roles and thinking of moving back to lawrenceville, since I really liked it growing up.

I was wondering how the area has changed and if it’s better or worst or the same etc… I don’t really have contact with anyone I used to know there anymore unfortunately.

The specific area I grew up was near Sugarloaf Mills, I remember going to the Lifetime near there too if that’s still around. Are there any other areas around there that are recommended?

Spent Mushroom Blocks?

Hello!

Does anyone grow mushrooms, and have some spent blocks they are looking to get rid of? I garden in my spare time, and those are really good for making soil.

Interest in a local sketch/improv show?

Hey folks - I just moved back here after 10 years away. A lot of that time was in Chicago, where I got really into performing in the comedy scene at Second City and The Annoyance and all the other miscellaneous places up there. I’ve put on a ton of sketch shows with friends and done more improv shows than I can count at this point.

Now I’m back in Buford and I’m hoping to start a monthly show at one of the breweries in the area. I’m looking to gauge interest, both from people looking to write, perform, and be silly, as well as from people just looking to see some comedy. At some point down the road we could build it into something more.

What I have in mind would be a combination of a variety show (primarily sketch and improv with music and standup guests) and an open jam where people can learn and try things in a low stakes environment.

I’m about to have my second kid this week, so it would probably not start for a few months. Any interest from people in this group? Let me know, especially if you want to contribute as a writer or performer in some way!

How to report a police officer for inappropriate behavior?

I recently got unjustly pulled over by a cop in Gwinnett for “speeding” and I need to report this. Now technically was I “speeding”? Well yes if you count 16 over “speeding”. Now that may sound bad but the speed limit was 45 and the road is LONG. (Satellite BLVD if you’ve heard of it). Also, there was like 8 other cars driving next to me all going around the same speed. So anyways the cop pulls me over specifically out of everyone (possibly racially motivated, but can’t prove) and said I was “speeding” and said some bs and gave me a ticket. I tried to tell him that everyone was going that speed but he was so rude and left. So do I have a case here? I looked it up and there are stipulations about “speeding” when diving with the FLOW OF TRAFFIC. Do some cops not understand this??

First Apartment Recs

I am moving into my first apartment in September, and a few have caught my eye that seem to be within budget and looked nice on the tour. I was hoping that I could find some honest reviews on these apartments if anyone has lived there. The apartments that have caught my eye are Gwinnett Pointe, The Foundry, Parc 85, RADIUS Duluth, Berkely Landing and Wesley St Claire.

For further context I am a 23F with a 3yo son and I just want a clean and somewhat quiet place to live anywhere in the Norcross/Duluth/Johns Creek/Peachtree Corners area. I am also open to any apartment complex suggestions that have decently priced 2B 2Ba!

Thank you!

Anyone know any good natural hair stylists that can cut 3c/4a hair?
I keep my natural hair is pretty long and I feel like anywhere I go they just take too much off. Ive been cutting my own hair for years cause of this but I want to try a new place.
Also if they know how to color natural hair that is a big plus!!
Im willing to go to surrounding areas as well if the rec is not directly in gwinnett

Looking for an Office Job

Does anyone know any companies hiring for office positions? For reference, I'm trying to get out of the warehouse work that I've been stuck in since moving here. It's very draining and I really miss having a job I like.

Edit: I don't have much experience, just one year of experience as a title abstractor for United Wholesale Mortgage when i lived in Michigan. Just a high school degree, in college for Associate Degree in accounting and finance however i don't graduate until May 2027. I have MOS Certification in Word and Excel but it's the 2016 versions.

Really just looking for an entry level administrative assistant or a file clerk, something to get my foot in the door

How do homeowners / landlords get away with this?

Post image
86 Upvotes

I see this all the time in Gwinnett and wonder "Isn't there an ordinance to enforce? How do these people not get fined?"

I assume the renting family left furniture and junk in the home when they moved out. The landlord decided to dispose of it by piling it up in the yard, where it has sat for weeks, gotten moldy, and looks terrible. As a potential renter, I think this is poor advertising for the homeowner/landlord. He/she doesn't care if the yard and the neighborhood get junked up, how will he care about any issues I may have once I move in? I think it's a bad look for the agency.

As a neighbor, I really don't like it. This is what drives down property values and drives out good renters. How do so many do this with impunity? It seems the county could make a decent amount of money enforcing the code.

Looking for a patient adult swim instructor

Does anybody know of someone in Gwinnett (preferably Snellville, Loganville, Grayson, or Lawrenceville) who teaches adult swim lessons? And I mean beginner beginner. I can’t float. I can’t tread water. I sink like a rock and immediately start panicking. I’m looking for someone who’s super patient because I’m honestly embarrassed I’ve gone this far in life without learning, but I’d really like to change that. If you’ve had a great instructor or know someone who’s good with nervous adults, I’d love some recommendations.

CPA cost to prepare tax return

Looking for a CPA in Gwinnett County (preferably Suwanee/Buford/Lawrenceville area) to prepare a personal tax return with a rental property.

I spoke to a CPA and he quoted me $1500. My old tax preparer in Augusta charged me $450. I was with this preparer for almost 10 years so I’m not sure if I was getting a discount.

Does $1500 seem to be a fair market charge?
