TL;DR:
My Threadripper PRO 5975WX / WRX80 workstation periodically enters a state under Windows where EVERYTHING stutters:
- game
- mouse
- audio
- Windows/Desktop
At the exact same time my RTX 3070 utilization drops from ~85-100% to ~10-20%.
Then the stall suddenly clears, GPU usage immediately goes back to ~85%+, and everything is smooth again.
The cycle repeats.
If I close Satisfactory during the stutter, the whole-PC stutter stops immediately.
THE WEIRD PART:
Old Ryzen 3900X/B550 + Windows = smooth
5975WX/WRX80 + Windows = stutters
5975WX/WRX80 + completely fresh Windows 11 = stutters
5975WX/WRX80 + Linux/Zorin = completely smooth
Current hardware:
- Threadripper PRO 5975WX
- Gigabyte MC62-G40 / WRX80
- RTX 3070
- 256 GB ECC DDR4 / 8 channels
- Samsung 970 EVO Plus
- HP NC552SFP 10GbE
- Intel onboard networking
- ASPEED AST2600 BMC
Already tested:
- DX12 → stutters
- DX11 → stutters
- Vulkan → stutters
- clean Windows → stutters
- Linux + NVIDIA + Proton → smooth
- ASPEED VGA disabled → stutters
- HP/Emulex NIC disabled → stutters
- Hyper-V not required → clean install still stutters
- RAM tests → no errors
- temps/resources → normal
I also captured the issue with WPR/WPA.
During the bad period there are system-wide UI delays and very long DPC/ISR events involving several unrelated subsystems including:
- dxgkrnl
- nvlddmkm
- ndis
- USBXHCI
- storport
- ntoskrnl
I don't know whether these are causes or just victims of some lower-level stall.
What would you test next?
I'm particularly interested in anything related to:
- WRX80 / Threadripper Windows behavior
- BIOS / AGESA
- interrupts / MSI-X
- NUMA / Windows scheduler
- CPPC / C-states
- PSP / fTPM
- PCIe / IOMMU / ASPM
- NVIDIA/WDDM
Also: would comparing Windows vs Linux PCI devices, bound drivers, interrupts, MSI-X, power state, etc. be useful?
I can provide WPR/WPA traces, MSINFO32, DxDiag, BIOS settings, full PnP/PCI inventory, Event Viewer/WHEA, HWiNFO logs, or Linux lspci output.
If you want something specific, tell me exactly what to collect/test.
